Kaduna ACReSAL Marks World Environment Day 2026 with Renewed Commitment to Environmental Sustainability

Kaduna State ACReSAL, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources and HYPADEC, commemorated World Environment Day (WED) 2026 in grand style under the theme, “Inspired by Nature, for Climate. For Our Future.”

The event brought together key stakeholders, including the Kaduna State ACReSAL Project Coordinator, Hadiza I. Halid Esq., the Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources and Chairman of the State Steering Committee, Hon. Abubakar Buba, who represented Governor Senator Uba Sani, alongside Honorable Commissioner Ministry of Agriculture Hon Murtala Dabo, traditional rulers, Permanent Secretaries, Students, Women Associations and development partners.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner emphasized that nature remains humanity’s strongest defense against climate change, highlighting the importance of forests, wetlands, and trees in safeguarding communities. He noted that through watershed management, large-scale tree planting, community sensitization, and climate-smart livelihood initiatives, ACReSAL is restoring degraded landscapes and building resilience.

The Commissioner revealed that Kaduna State has planted over 5.3 million trees toward its target of 10 million trees within four years. He also announced that 500 women across the 23 local government areas have been trained and empowered with briquette-making machines and clean cook stoves to promote alternative energy sources and reduce dependence on firewood.

To address flooding, the state government has intensified environmental sanitation campaigns and deployed specialized equipment, including an amphibious excavator and marine vehicles, for desilting waterways and mitigating flood risks.

The celebration concluded with a symbolic tree-planting exercise led by government officials, ACReSAL, HYPADEC, and other dignitaries, reaffirming their commitment to a greener and more sustainable Kaduna State.
