During a recent outreach in public schools, I interviewed several adolescent girls. One said quietly,
“I skip school every month because I can’t afford pads. Sometimes, I just stay home and cry.”
Sadly, she’s not alone.
🔸 Studies show that 1 in 10 girls in Africa miss school due to lack of menstrual products.
🔸 In Nigeria, 48% of girls in underserved areas use unsafe alternatives—rags, tissue, even leaves.
🔸 Many become vulnerable to transactional s*x, leading to unwanted pregnancies and abuse.
🔸 Teen pregnancy remains a leading cause of school dropout for girls in low-income communities.
Behind every statistic is a real girl, battling shame, pain, and silence—all because of her period.
This is why we launched Project Dignity—to give girls menstrual hygiene kits, education, mentorship, and hope.
