Wisdom Teeth: When Should They Be Removed?

Wisdom teeth, also known as third molars, typically emerge between the ages of 17 and 25. While some people have no issues with their wisdom teeth, others may experience pain, crowding, or infections, making removal necessary. But how do you know when it's time to have them extracted?

Signs You May Need Wisdom Tooth Removal
🦷 Pain or Discomfort – Persistent pain in the back of your mouth may indicate that your wisdom teeth are impacted or growing incorrectly.
🦷 Swollen or Bleeding Gums – Inflammation around your wisdom teeth can be a sign of infection or difficulty cleaning the area properly.
🦷 Crowding or Shifting Teeth – Wisdom teeth can push against existing teeth, leading to misalignment or bite issues.
🦷 Frequent Cavities or Infections – Partially erupted wisdom teeth create pockets where bacteria thrive, increasing the risk of decay and gum disease.
🦷 Jaw Stiffness or Difficulty Chewing – If your wisdom teeth are causing discomfort while eating, they may be growing in at an improper angle.

When Is the Best Time to Remove Them?
Wisdom teeth are often easier to remove before they fully develop, usually in the late teens or early twenties. At this stage, the roots are not fully formed, making extraction less complicated with a quicker recovery.

The professional and highly skilled team from Islington Dental Clinic is here to evaluate your wisdom teeth and provide expert care. If you’re experiencing discomfort or want to prevent future complications, schedule a consultation today!

Wisdom teeth extractions rank among the most common oral surgeries for adults. According to recent data, up to 70% of people develop at least one impacted wisdom tooth, leading to complications that justify removal.

1. Impaction and Pain:
When the jaw lacks sufficient space, wisdom teeth often grow at odd angles or remain partially trapped beneath the gum. This “impaction” can cause severe pain, swollen gums, and difficulty opening the mouth.

2. Infection (Pericoronitis):
Partially erupted teeth create pockets where bacteria thrive, resulting in repeated infections, bad breath, and fever. Pericoronitis affects nearly 20% of patients with lower wisdom teeth.

3. Damage to Adjacent Teeth:
Impacted molars can press against second molars, leading to enamel erosion, cavities, and even root resorption. Early removal protects healthy teeth.

4. Cysts and Tumors:
In rare cases, fluid-filled cysts form around unerupted wisdom teeth, damaging jaw bone and nerves if left untreated.

5. Orthodontic Stability:
Even straight wisdom teeth may be removed prophylactically to prevent crowding after braces or aligners.

Wisdom tooth extraction, when clinically indicated, prevents long-term damage and preserves overall oral health. Regular dental check‑ups and panoramic X‑rays at ages 17–25 can help identify problematic wisdom teeth early—ensuring safer, smoother extractions.

River Congo

▪️It's the widest River in Africa; at its widest point, its 13 KMs

▪️Its the deepest River in the World; at it deepest point, it is 220 Meters Deep

That is; nearly 4 times deeper than the deepest point of Lake Victoria

▪️Its the 2nd largest river in the world by water discharge; its average discharge is 41,200 Cubic Meters per Second

That is; 41,200,000 Liters per Second getting into Atlantic Ocean from River Congo

For context, Africa consumes about 6,849,300 Liters/Second

So, the water being discharged by River Congo into Atlantic Ocean every ONE second can meet Africa's Water demand for SIX Seconds .

TOOTHACHE

1. Brush your teeth daily with a mixture of clay powder and salt.

2. To strengthen your teeth, rub the roots daily with lemon tree bark.

3. Chew guava leaves and let the juice sit in your mouth.

4. Garlic is an excellent ally against toothache.
It releases a chemical substance called allicin, which has antibiotic properties that reduce infection.
Apply crushed garlic cloves to the affected tooth to ease the pain. Alternatively, simply rub a garlic clove on your gums and teeth.

5. Ginger has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and antibacterial properties that help relieve toothache. To use it, mix 2 teaspoons of ginger powder with 1 teaspoon of water until you get a thick paste. Place this paste on a cotton ball and apply it to the painful tooth, avoiding contact with the gums.

6. Clove has been used for years to treat toothache due to its content of eugenol, a natural antiseptic.
Apply a small amount of powdered clove to the tooth, or chew a whole clove to release its oil.
You can also use a small amount of clove oil (about two drops) and apply it to the affected area until the pain subsides.

7. Onion contains phytonutrients that target the germs responsible for oral infections and help relieve pain.
Cut a piece of onion and chew it on the painful side of your mouth to let the onion juice pe*****te the tooth.

THE CONNECTION BETWEEN WATER AND THE BRAIN

The brain is approximately 75% water, and even mild dehydration can impair its function.

✔️Lack of adequate hydration can lead to reduced focus, slower processing speeds, and memory difficulties.

Studies show that dehydration as little as 1-2% of body weight can negatively impact attention and short-term memory.

✔️Proper hydration supports the production of neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine, which regulate mood.

✔️Dehydration can lead to irritability, fatigue, and increased anxiety.

✔️Dehydration can cause brain fog, leading to confusion, lack of mental clarity, and difficulty concentrating.

✔️Staying hydrated helps maintain mental sharpness and alertness.

✔️Water is essential for transporting nutrients and oxygen to brain cells.

✔️Adequate hydration ensures efficient energy production and cellular function within the brain.

✔️Water aids in the removal of toxins and waste products from the brain through the lymphatic system.

This detoxification is particularly active during sleep, highlighting the importance of hydration for brain recovery.

✔️Water helps maintain cerebrospinal fluid levels, which cushion the brain and protect it from trauma.

✔️Proper hydration reduces the risk of headaches, often caused by dehydration.

Drink Water.

FIRST SUCCESSFUL KIDNEY TRANSPLANT PERFORMED AT UDUTH SOKOTO

History has been made at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH) in Sokoto as the institution successfully carried out its first-ever kidney transplant today.

The groundbreaking procedure was performed by a team of highly skilled medical professionals, marking a significant milestone in the hospital’s commitment to advancing medical services in Nigeria. Sources within UDUTH confirmed that both the donor and recipient are in stable condition and responding well to post-operative care.
