Mai Adiko: Investing in Girls, Strengthening Communities

In celebration of the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child, Girls Advocacy for Peace Initiative (GAPI) in partnership with Crest Center for Peace and Social Advancement(CCPSA) and Plateau Peace Building Agency(PPBA), hosted a focused outreach program in Mai Adiko community, Jos South.

Over 100 girls participated in practical, interactive sessions covering Gender-Based Violence, Girls’ Rights, Reproductive Health, Career Planning, and Personal Hygiene.
These sessions created a safe and empowering space for open dialogue — where girls could ask questions, share experiences, and learn from one another with confidence and support.

To promote menstrual hygiene and dignity, each participant received sanitary pads — a simple yet powerful gesture underscoring that small actions can create lasting impact in the lives of girls.

Community and women leaders praised the initiative, pledging sustained commitment to girls’ education, empowerment, and protection.
The day was filled with learning, laughter, and renewed hope — a collective promise to uplift every girl child and ensure that no one is left behind.

When girls are equipped with knowledge, confidence, and opportunity, the entire community thrives.

Girls Advocacy for Peace Initiatives (GAPI) proudly joins the global community to commemorate the International Day of the Girl Child 2025, celebrated annually on October 11th, to recognize and amplify the rights, potential, and power of Girls everywhere.

This year’s theme, “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis,” calls attention to the extraordinary courage and leadership demonstrated by girls who continue to drive social change in the face of conflict, crisis, and adversity. PRESS STATEMENT : Nigeria Celebrates 65 years of Independence 🇳🇬✨

Today, as we celebrate Nigeria’s Independence Day, we at Girls Advocacy for Peace Initiative (GAPI) extend our warmest greetings to every citizen of our beloved nation. 🇳🇬✨

Independence is more than just a date of history — it’s a reminder of the courage, resilience, and sacrifices made by those who fought for our freedom. It is a celebration of our shared identity, our unity in diversity, and our collective journey towards peace, justice, and prosperity.

As we wave our green and white flag proudly, we are reminded that true independence is not only about political freedom but also about social and economic empowerment for every Nigerian, especially girls, youth and women. 💚🤍💚

At GAPI, we believe that the strength of our nation lies in the empowerment of young women, youth and girls. When girls are educated, empowered, and included in decision-making, communities thrive and nations grow stronger. Independence therefore calls us to continue building a Nigeria where girls’ voices are heard, respected, and celebrated.

Peace remains the foundation of true progress. Without peace, development is impossible. As an organization committed to peace advocacy, we see this day as a call to action — to reject violence, to embrace dialogue, and to build bridges of understanding across divides.

Nigeria’s independence is not just about reflecting on the past but also about envisioning the future. A future where every child goes to school. A future where every girl walks free from fear. A future where justice, equality, and unity form the backbone of our society.

This Independence Day, we urge every Nigerian to embrace peace in their daily lives. Let us reject hate and division, and instead sow seeds of love, respect, and understanding. Let us lift up one another, ensuring no voice — especially the voices of women ,youth and girls — is left unheard.

To the girls , youth and young women across Nigeria, we say this: You are the future of this nation. Your dreams, your voices, and your courage matter. Stand tall, speak boldly, and believe in the power of your contribution to nation-building.

On behalf of Girls Advocacy for Peace Initiative, we wish every Nigerian a joyful, peaceful, and hopeful Independence Day. May our nation continue to rise above challenges and shine as a beacon of strength in Africa and the world.

Happy Independence Day, Nigeria! 🇳🇬💚🤍💚

Beginning in our homes, communities, and right here in Plateau State, echoing the agency’s vision: “A Plateau at peace with itself and the rest of the world.”

Myriam Wedraogo, Head of Peacecore II at GIZ, reaffirmed the German government’s commitment to peacebuilding efforts on the Plateau. She celebrated the diverse turnout and highlighted the Peace Walk as a reflection of collective action towards inclusive societies which is a high priority for the German government through the Peacecore project implemented by GIZ.

We are deeply grateful to the Plateau State Peacebuilding Agency for the opportunity to stand together for peace. The walk was not just symbolic, it was a step toward lasting harmony.
