PRESS STATEMENT BY VOICE FOR THE GIRL CHILD FOUNDATION ON THE ABDUCTION OF 25 SCHOOLGIRLS IN KEBBI STATE
The Voice for the Girl Child Foundation expresses deep concern and profound distress over the abduction of 25 schoolgirls in Kebbi State, an incident that once again highlights the harsh and heartbreaking reality that women and girls continue to be the primary victims of Nigeria’s unending insecurity.
For years, Nigeria has witnessed repeated attacks on schoolsplaces meant to nurture dreams, not destroy them. Girls, in particular, have endured unimaginable trauma, targeted simply because they seek an education.
The pattern is clear and disturbing: while insecurity affects everyone, the scars borne by women and girls remain deeper, longer, and often lifelong.
We call on the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Kebbi State Government, and all responsible security agencies to act with urgency, precision, and unwavering commitment.
These innocent girls must be rescued and reunited with their families without delay. Nigeria must not allow the tragedy of the Chibok girls or the painful case of Leah Sharibu to repeat itself. These girls cannot become another set of names lost in the cycle of failed rescue efforts and fading national attention.
As an organization dedicated to protecting and amplifying the rights of the girl child, we demand that the government:
Deploy comprehensive intelligence and coordinated security operations to ensure the safe return of the abducted schoolgirls.
Ensure immediate and long-term security for schools, especially those in high-risk areas.
Engage communities, local leaders, and civil society organizations for better prevention and response mechanisms.
Provide trauma-informed support and accurate information to the affected families.
Address the root causes of insecurity with sincerity, consistency, and accountability.
Nigeria cannot continue to normalize the abduction of its daughters. The right of every girl to learn, grow, and thrive must not be compromised by fear. These 25 girls are not just statistics—they are dreams, talents, and futures that must be protected at all cost.
The Voice for the Girl Child Foundation stands firmly with the families of the abducted girls and calls on all stakeholders government, civil society, international partners, and citizens—to join in demanding swift action.
Every second matters. Bring Back Our Girls. Bring Back Our Kebbi 25.
