"Elections in Nigeria are often bitterly contested. Most times, it looks like a battlefield, both online and offline.

As young people, how do we ensure that the young people stay away from violence before, during and after elections, even as they actively participate in the electoral process?

Join this episode of youth hangout ( ) for a peaceful election dialogue to gain unique insights on the theme: Electoral Violence: youth as actors and victims."

JCM Centre have joined other critical actors in Nigeria's health sector at the ongoing National Health Financing Dialogue in Abuja, organised by the Federal Ministry of Health Nigeria, Basic Health Care Provision Fund - Communications, SWAp Coordination Office, on the theme "reimagining the future of health financing in Nigeria."

Domestic Resource Mobilisation (DRM) is the way to go, when it comes to sustainable health financing!

For us a health communication actor, and communication-for-development organisation, we are keen in leveraging strategic communication to drive resource mobilisation locally, draw attention, generate interest and attention of potential funders, and build public, political and institutional will for sustained funding of health in Nigeria.

Yesterday and today, our team joined a broad range of media professionals, entrepreneurs, researchers, funders, and stakeholders from different countries, in a two-day Media Sustainability Conference in Abuja, that explored new thinking around media sustainability, editorial resilience, and innovation in public interest journalism, in the face of changing business models.

The theme of the conference, which was organised by the Media Development Investment Fund (MDIF)/Nigeria Media Innovation Program in collaboration with Daily Trust Foundation with support from MacArthur Foundation, was "Future-Proofing Journalism in Nigeria."

We commend MDIF for providing media sustainability grants and technical support to 28 independent media startups and innovators in Nigeria, hence strengthening those who have taken bold steps.

When a media organisation is financially viable, they are able to expose corruption, promote democracy, and do more public interest stories without fear or being influenced. Public interest media matters and its transformative powers are overwhelming.

With this conference and its explosive sessions around media product development, audience development, media revenue generation for newsrooms, experience sharing from global media CEOs, the way media business is done in Nigeria will change - ideas for new beginnings, ideas for new methods, and confidence to launch media products.

Media is business!

We're in Kano state this week!

Our team is learning from people who have been affected by malaria, especially those who couldn't go out to work/business and those employers/business owners whose staff couldn't come to work, how that affected their income. (direct economic consequences of malaria outbreaks to business).

Also, we're learning how seasonal malaria outbreaks affect workforce productivity. Furthermore, we're observing to see any evidence that there are increased malaria cases this year – due to US AID cuts/cuts in overseas aid and how it is affecting business/workforce.

One Keke Rider that spoke to us, who has been down with malaria for two weeks, and has not worked and remitted remitted weekly returns to the Keke owner has been asked to return the Keke, effectively compounding his already bad economic situation. A Person Living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV) who spoke to us has worse story, since the USAID funding cut for prevention. Access to prevention and care is low, thereby affecting productivity and income generation. A farmer who has been down and unable to go to the farm, is counting his loss - low yield and low income.

We will use our case studies/stories to draw attention, raise awareness to bring solutions.

Do you have a similar story to share with us or do you know anyone with similar stories on the economic impact of malaria, ANYWHERE IN NIGERIA, please reach out to us as soon as possible.

New Publication Alert - Media Resource Material

We are delighted to report that the Centre For Media and Society (CEMESO) have released its newly published book, titled "Doing Civic and Voter Education – A Practical Guide for Community Media Professionals in Nigeria."

The tool is a hands-on, adaptable resource that was developed in collaboration with the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and selected media development experts all over Nigeria including our founder Obinna Chukwuezie, with support from the European Union under the EU-SDGN II Project.

Although it is designed for community media, its relevance extends along the entire broadcast chain - radio, television, public and private. If you're a broadcaster, content creation around election, editor, station manager, etc, this guide is for you! It'll enable you to develop morally-crafted content that resonates with the grassroots audiences, within a polarised broadcast environment.

"I feel honored to be part of this process, and I am excited to see broadcasters nationwide adopt and adapt this guide to give more visibility to Civic and Voter Education (CVE), as Nigeria works to deepen her democracy," Chukwuezie said.
