Dialogue, Reconciliation and Peace Centre - DREP Centre. Dialogue | Reconciliation| Peace Building.

DREP Centre is providing a safe space for dialogue, reconciliation and healing among diverse religious, ethnic and political groups in plateau state and beyond.

Peacebuilding is not just for leaders or institutions,
It belongs to all of us.

It is in the decisions we make daily, to forgive, to engage and to build rather than break.

Because communities become peaceful when people take responsibility for the kind of environment they create.

There are moments when words feel too small for what communities carry.

Moments when grief is not just personal, but shared,
When fear spreads faster, hearts are heavy and questions remain unanswered.

In times like these, peace is our responsibility.
It is the choice to remain human when everything around us is pulling toward anger, it is the discipline to refuse rumours that deepen wounds.

We pray for comfort for grieving families.

May we not lose our commitment to peace, even here.

Peacebuilding in many communities is often challenged by deep-rooted mistrust, limited dialogue between groups and the exclusion of key voices, especially women and young people.

The HOPE Project (Harnessing Opportunities for Peace and Empowerment) has been responding to these realities in practical and community-driven ways

One of the key contributions of the HOPE Project has been helping participants recognize that peace is not only the responsibility of leaders or institutions. It is something that begins within communities, shaped by everyday interactions and strengthened through inclusion and dialogue.

Through the HOPE (Harnessing Opportunities for Peace and Empowerment) project, we have been able to respond to some of the real challenges affecting peacebuilding in communities, from limited participation of women and youth, to gaps in leadership, dialogue and trust.

The HOPE Project has strengthened relationships within communities, creating safe spaces for conversations, encouraging mutual understanding and rebuilding trust where it has been weakened.

Involving young people in community peacebuilding is essential.

When young people are engaged, equipped and trusted, they become bridge-builders, promoting dialogue, challenging harmful stereotypes and encouraging cooperation across differences.

In many of our communities, conflict is not far away.
It shows up in small misunderstandings, in broken trust, in stories we have heard about “the other.”

And if left unattended, these small things can grow into something much bigger, this is why peacebuilding matters.

It is the everyday work of bringing people together and creating a space for honest conversations.

At Dialogue, Reconciliation and Peace Centre - DREP Centre.
We create spaces for dialogue, support communities to rebuild trust and equip women, youth, and local leaders with the tools for peace building, through trainings, community engagements and partnerships, we continue to strengthen the structures that make peaceful coexistence possible.

Because for us, peace is not just an idea,
it is a responsibility we choose to build, together, every day.

Peacebuilding is the consistent effort to hold communities together when tensions rise.
It is the willingness to engage when it is easier to withdraw, to listen when it is easier to assume and to build trust where it has been broken.

In many communities, conflict is shaped by history, perception and unresolved grievances.
Peacebuilding, therefore, goes deeper, it addresses the root causes, strengthens relationships and creates systems that prevent future division.

It is found in dialogue that allows people to speak honestly and be heard.
It is found in leadership that prioritizes fairness over bias.
It is found in communities that choose cooperation over conflict.

Peacebuilding is a long-term commitment, one that requires patience, accountability and shared responsibility.
And behind every peaceful community is a collective effort to build, protect and sustain it.

At the Dialogue, Reconciliation and Peace Centre - DREP Centre. this is the work we are committed to every day.

Today,
We hosted a radio conversation on Jay 101.9 FM Jos on the HOPE Project (Harnessing Opportunities for Peace and Empowerment), focusing on the theme: “The Role of Women and Youth in Promoting Peaceful Coexistence in Our Communities.”

This discussion brought together voices from communities directly impacted by the project creating a space to share experiences, practical insights and the growing role of women and young people as active peacebuilders.

From the conversation, one message stood out clearly:
peace is stronger and more sustainable when women and youth are not just included, but empowered to lead.

As part of our continued efforts to strengthen partnerships and expand the reach of peacebuilding initiatives, Dialogue, Reconciliation and Peace Centre - DREP Centre. paid an advocacy visit to Cooperazione Internazionale in Barnawa, Kaduna State.

The visit provided an opportunity to introduce the work of DREP, highlight the peacebuilding, dialogue and reconciliation projects we have implemented across communities, and share our commitment to fostering sustainable peace and social cohesion.
