From Awareness to Action: Equipping Communities with Real-Time Climate Tools
What happens when knowledge meets technology at the community level?
On 27th March 2026, the BRIDGE Project, implemented by the Crest Research and Development Institute (CRADI), trained Climate Early Warning Monitors (EWMs) in Plateau State on the use of the CRADI Early Warning and Early Response (EWER) Mobile Application.
Bringing together voices from government agencies, community leaders, farmer groups, pastoralist representatives and civil society, this training went beyond theory. Participants engaged directly with the mobile application, learning how to report, monitor and verify climate-related hazards in real time.
From representatives of Plateau Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency (PEPSA), All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) and the Plateau State Climate Change Assembly to members of the Local Dialogue Platform and Community-Based Early Warning Sub-Committees, the room reflected a shared commitment: stronger, faster and more coordinated climate response systems.
One moment stood out-a participant expressed appreciation not just for the training, but for gaining access to a practical tool that empowers communities to act early. The session also created space to highlight CRADI’s broader work, including ongoing interventions in Bokkos LGA (Plateau State) and Buruku LGA (Benue).
This is what resilience looks like: communities equipped, connected and ready to respond to challenges.
