💔 A Story of Survival and Hope

In Bassa, a father was brutally killed on his way back from the farm, leaving behind his wife and six young daughters. Today, they face the uncertainty of survival and the challenge of pursuing their education without their breadwinner.

This moving story is featured in a full documentary by Mission for the Vulnerable and Displaced Citizens (MIVUDI-CITIZENS) in partnership with Safe House for Justice and Human Empowerment. Together, we visited attacked and displaced communities, listened to survivors, and captured their firsthand testimonies.

The documentary was released on World Humanitarian Day, alongside a press conference, as a call to action.

The humanitarian needs on the Plateau are enormous. The cry is real. The time to respond is now. 🙏

Plateau’s Humanitarian Crisis: An Urgent Call for Action

Jos, Nigeria: August 19, 2025... On World Humanitarian Day 2025, civil society groups in Plateau State sounded a serious alarm over what they described as a “forgotten humanitarian catastrophe.”

At a joint press briefing, the Safe House for Justice and Human Empowerment Centre, Mission for the Vulnerable and Displaced Citizens (MIVUDI-CITIZENS), and the Youth Initiative Against Violence and Human Rights Abuse (YIAVHA) highlighted the growing violence and widespread displacement across Plateau.

The coalition revealed that at least 64 communities have been displaced, leaving behind ghost towns in LGAs such as Bassa, Riyom, Barkin Ladi, Mangu, and Bokkos. Women and children remain the most vulnerable, acing risks of trafficking, forced labor, gender-based violence, and exploitation.

The human cost continues to rise. In July 2025, an attack on Bindi village left 27 people dead and displaced over 2,468 persons. Today, Plateau is home to more than 1.3 million internally displaced persons (IDPs), a sharp 19% increase since late 2023. Children make up nearly 60% of camp populations, with many robbed of education and forced into labor or trafficking.

While acknowledging efforts such as the ₦1 billion donation by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu and support from international partners (GIZ, NRC, WHO, UNICEF), the groups stressed that these interventions remain far below the scale of need.

The coalition issued a call to action:

1. Donors & Philanthropists: Support peacebuilding, trauma healing, and livelihood restoration.

2. Government: Go beyond reactive security; strengthen intelligence and community-based policing.

3. Citizens: Stand in solidarity through advocacy, donations, and support for displaced families.

They concluded with a strong reminder:
“This is not just a headline; it is a reality eating at the soul of our people. Plateau must not be allowed to become another forgotten crisis.”

MIVUDI-CITIZENS JOINS GLOBAL YOUTH IN COMMEMORATING INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY 2025

The Mission for the Vulnerable and Displaced Citizens (MIVUDI-CITIZENS) participated in the 2025 International Youth Day celebration organized by the LOVEBACK- SDGs Initiative in Jos, Plateau State. This year’s global theme, “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond,” highlights the vital role of young people in advancing sustainable development within their communities.

The event brought together youth leaders, organizations, and stakeholders for insightful engagements on key issues affecting young people and society at large. Discussions centered on:

---The opportunities presented by artificial intelligence (AI) in video editing and other digital innovations.

---The importance of prioritizing mental health as a foundation for productivity and resilience.

---The impactful contributions of LOVEBACK initiatives toward community development.

---The benefits of environmental sanitation in promoting healthy living and sustainable growth.

---The call for youth independence and empowerment to foster leadership and self-reliance.

Speaking at the event, MIVUDI-CITIZENS reaffirmed its commitment to empowering vulnerable and displaced citizens, especially the youth, by promoting awareness, advocacy, and opportunities that enhance their potential and contribution to national development.

International Youth Day remains a reminder that young people are not just beneficiaries of development but active partners and change-makers in building sustainable societies.
