Community Sanitation Engagement and Stakeholder Visit at Sarkin. Arab Community.

As part of the ongoing sanitation and community development initiative being implemented across ten selected wards in Jos North, the team paid a courtesy visit to the Ward Head of sarkin aran ward to the collaboration and community ownership of the project.
Speaking during the engagement, Mr Haroun Audu provided a comprehensive overview of the sanitation activities being carried out by SOLCI across the participating wards. He highlighted the significant progress recorded so far and emphasized the importance of sustaining the gains beyond the lifespan of the project. According to him, environmental cleanliness should not be seen as a one-off exercise but as a continuous community responsibility.
Haroun further disclosed that an additional 52 Community Sentinels would soon be deployed to undertake another phase of community-focused interventions, thereby expanding the project's impact and ensuring wider grassroots participation. He encouraged youth leaders and community stakeholders to take ownership of the initiative and continue the sanitation activities after SOLCI's direct intervention comes to an end, ensuring that cleanliness becomes a recurring culture rather than an occasional event.
He also acknowledged PEPSA as a key partner organization whose support and collaboration have contributed immensely to the success of the initiative, expressing confidence that the partnership would continue to yield positive outcomes for communities across Jos North.
In recognition of the Ward Head's support and commitment to community development, a branded SOLCI shirt was formally presented to him as a symbol of appreciation and partnership.
Responding, the Ward Head expressed profound gratitude to SOLCI, the Community Sentinels, PEPSA, and all partner organizations for bringing the sanitation initiative to his community. He noted that seeing young people actively involved in promoting environmental cleanliness and community service gave him renewed hope for the future of Jos.
The traditional leader passionately spoke about his desire to see Jos regain its former reputation as one of Nigeria's cleanest, safest, and most united cities. He commended the spirit of volunteerism demonstrated by the youth and assured the team of his unwavering support. He emphasized that no individual or group would be allowed to intimidate or discourage those carrying out genuine community service, urging the volunteers to remain steadfast in their efforts to improve the environment and promote community cohesion.
Also speaking during the visit, Odessa expressed delight at the Ward Head's remarks, particularly his strong emphasis on unity in diversity. She noted that fostering peaceful coexistence among people of different ethnic, religious, and social backgrounds remains one of the core objectives of Jos Town Ambassadors Foundation. According to her, hearing the Ward Head champion the same message reaffirmed the shared vision of building a more united, peaceful, and progressive Jos.

She further stressed that community development thrives when leaders and citizens work together across differences, and she expressed optimism that such collaborations would continue to strengthen harmony and collective action within the community.
In his closing remarks, the Ward Head once again thanked everyone present for their dedication and commitment. He remarked that it was inspiring to witness people from different backgrounds coming together with a common purpose to clean, beautify, and uplift their community. He encouraged all participants to remain ambassadors of peace, unity, and environmental responsibility wherever they find themselves.

The event concluded on a warm and cheerful note with light refreshments served to participants, providing an opportunity for further interaction, networking, and the strengthening of relationships among community leaders, volunteers, and partner organizations. The atmosphere reflected the very values that the initiative seeks to promote: service, unity, collaboration, and a shared commitment to restoring the pride and beauty of Jos.

🌟 From Empowerment to Opportunity: Dorcas Song Takes the Next Bold Step

We are proud to share another inspiring milestone from one of our beneficiaries, Dorcas Song, whose journey continues to reflect resilience, growth, and the power of opportunity.

Dorcas, a beneficiary of the Jos Town Ambassadors Teenage Mothers Intervention Programme, is now among the selected participants attending the PLASMIDA SHINE Mentorship Initiative, where she is gaining valuable skills to further transform her future.

On 26th March 2026, the Director General of Plateau State Microfinance Development Agency, Hon. Bomkam Wuyep, engaged with the pioneer mentees of the newly launched SHINE Initiative (Supporting Her Innovation, Network & Enterprise). The session marked the beginning of a powerful journey for young women entrepreneurs across Plateau State.

Dorcas stands as a shining example of what empowerment can achieve. From receiving support through JTA to now sitting at the table of opportunity, she is embracing growth in entrepreneurship, financial literacy, digital marketing, and leadership.

The DG emphasised that mentorship is the bridge between potential and success, encouraging participants like Dorcas to remain focused, take initiative, and maximise every learning opportunity.

Through this initiative, Dorcas and other mentees will be equipped not only to build sustainable businesses but also to impact their communities through a “train-the-trainer” approach—multiplying knowledge and opportunity for others.

This progress aligns with the broader vision of His Excellency, Caleb Mutfwang, to empower women and strengthen the economic future of Plateau State.

✨ Dorcas’ journey reminds us that with the right support, every young woman can rise, thrive, and lead.

The future is indeed bright—and for Dorcas, it has already begun.

🌟 *Success Story: Dorcas Song – From Hope to Impact* 🌟

Dorcas Song’s journey is a powerful reminder that with the right support, determination, and opportunity, lives can truly be transformed.

As a beneficiary of the Jos Town Ambassadors Teenage Mother Intervention Program, Dorcas received the guidance and empowerment she needed to rebuild her life.

Today, she proudly owns a thriving tailoring shop—an achievement that has not only provided her with a steady source of income but has also restored her confidence and renewed her hope for the future.

With two sewing machines now at her disposal, Dorcas has improved her craft and expanded her business.

Her dedication, resilience, and consistency continue to set her apart as a young woman committed to rising above challenges.

Even more inspiring is her decision to give back—Dorcas is currently training another young person in fashion design. She has grown from being a beneficiary of change to becoming a catalyst for change in her community.

Her story truly reflects the mission of the Jos Town Ambassadors Teenage Mother Intervention Program: empowering teenage mothers to become independent, productive, and hopeful members of society.

Dorcas Song’s journey is not just about survival—it is a story of strength, growth, and purpose.
