NEDC and Betso Charity Foundation Deliver Lifeline to Flood Victims in Yola South, Adamawa State

YOLA, Adamawa State – In a powerful show of compassion and coordinated support, the North East Development Commission (NEDC), in partnership with Betso Charity Foundation, has launched a comprehensive relief initiative for flood-affected households in Shagari, Sabon Pegi, and Anguwan Tabo communities of Yola South Local Government Area.

While the NEDC distributed essential food and non-food items, Betso Charity Foundation complemented the intervention by preparing and distributing freshly cooked meals to hundreds of displaced individuals, offering not only sustenance but a moment of dignity and warmth amid the crisis.

The relief effort comes as part of NEDC’s ongoing response to the recent devastating floods that displaced families and disrupted livelihoods across the region.

Representing the NEDC’s Managing Director/CEO, Mohammed G. Alkali, the State Coordinator, Barr. Khalifa M. Lawan, conveyed heartfelt sympathies to the victims and reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to supporting both immediate needs and long-term recovery.

“We understand the challenges you face, and we are here to bring more support to your doorstep,” Lawan stated.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Adamawa State Government, Mrs. Lawuri, Director of the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), expressed deep appreciation for the timely and impactful intervention.

The distributed relief items included cartons of Indomie noodles, spaghetti, mats, mosquito nets, and blankets, while Betso Charity Foundation’s cooked meal initiative offered ready-to-eat nourishment on-site, ensuring that displaced families didn’t have to worry about food preparation amid difficult living conditions.

Beneficiaries expressed immense gratitude, with community leaders and residents praising both organizations for their coordinated effort.

“This support means so much to us,” said one recipient. “It gives us hope and shows that we are not alone in this difficult time.”

The NEDC reaffirmed its commitment to sustained recovery and rebuilding efforts across the North East, while Betso Charity Foundation pledged to continue working hand in hand with development partners to reach vulnerable populations across Adamawa and beyond.

We had the privilege of serving freshly prepared meals to internally displaced persons an effort made possible through our collaboration with the North-East Development Commission (NEDC). The outreach began with a heartfelt message from our Executive Director, Comrade Adamu Muhammad, who reaffirmed our shared commitment to meeting the immediate needs of vulnerable communities. Following this, the State Coordinator of NEDC, Khalifa M. Lawan Esq., emphasized the importance of not just distributing food items, but offering warm, cooked meals as an expression of dignity, care, and humanity. We remain deeply grateful for this impactful partnership and for all those working tirelessly to bring hope where it’s needed most.

On the 29th of July, just hours after finalizing our partnership with the North-East Development Commission (NEDC), Betso Charity Foundation began preparing and distributing freshly cooked meals to internally displaced persons. The first batch of meals was received with gratitude by the Permanent Secretary of ADSEMA, Dr. Celine Kwamoti La’ori, ably represented by one of her staff. That evening’s dinner was more than just food, it was a symbol of swift response, collaboration, and shared humanity. We remain committed to ensuring that those displaced by crisis are not forgotten.
