FGD SESSIONS WITH MEN, WOMEN, ADOLESCENT GIRLS AND BOYS

As part of the ongoing Emergency Protection Support for Displacement-Affected Communities in Mafa and Konduga LGAs, Nkafamiya Rescue Mission (NRM), in partnership with the NRC - Norwegian Refugee Council and with support from United Nations OCHA - Nigeria Humanitarian Fund (NHF), conducted Focus Group Discussion (FGD) sessions with men, women, adolescent girls, and boys across the target communities in Borno State.

The sessions provided safe and inclusive spaces for community members to share their experiences, concerns, priorities, and perspectives on protection and safety issues affecting their daily lives.

Through these discussions, participants were able to identify key protection risks, barriers to accessing essential services, community needs, and existing coping mechanisms.

The insights gathered will contribute to evidence based programming and help strengthen protection interventions that are responsive to the specific needs of different groups within displacement-affected communities.

At NRM, we believe that communities must be at the heart of decisions that affect their lives. By listening to the voices of women, men, girls, and boys, we continue to promote meaningful participation, dignity, safety, and stronger community based protection mechanisms.

🧼 PROMOTING SAFE HYGIENE PRACTICES THROUGH HOUSEHOLD ENGAGEMENT

As part of the Cholera Emergency Response, Preparedness and Early Warning Intervention, Nkafamiya Rescue Mission (NRM), in partnership with Save the Children Nigeria, continues to strengthen household level prevention measures through house-to-house follow up visits, hygiene education, and community sensitization activities across Yola North, Yola South, and Girei LGAs of Adamawa State.

During these engagements, Community Based Hygiene Volunteers (CBHVs) and Hygiene Promoters are reaching households with practical information on cholera prevention, safe water practices, and improved hygiene behaviours.

KEY ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:

🚰 DISTRIBUTION OF AQUA TABS AND DEMONSTRATION OF PROPER USE:
Households are being supported with water treatment solutions, alongside practical demonstrations on the correct application and safe use of Aqua Tabs to promote access to safer water.

🏠 HOUSE-TO-HOUSE FOLLOW-UP:
Regular household visits are conducted to reinforce hygiene messages, address concerns, monitor the adoption of recommended practices, and encourage sustained behaviour change.

Through these interventions, NRM and partners are empowering communities with the knowledge and tools needed to reduce the risk of cholera transmission and promote healthier living environments.

Together with communities, we continue to strengthen prevention, preparedness, and resilience against public health risks.

Today, 12 August 2026, Nkafamiya Rescue Mission joins the global community in celebrating International Youth Day under the theme:
“Different Contexts, Common Aspirations".

Young people may come from different backgrounds, communities, cultures, and circumstances, but we share common aspirations a safer world, equal opportunities, meaningful participation, decent livelihoods, and a future filled with hope.

At Nkafamiya Rescue Mission, we recognize young people as partners, leaders, innovators, and agents of positive change. Their voices matter, their ideas matter, and their contributions are essential to building resilient and inclusive communities.

🤝 STRENGTHENING QUALITY IMPLEMENTATION THROUGH JOINT FIELD MONITORING AND CAPACITY SUPPORT

As part of the Cholera Emergency Response, Preparedness and Early Warning Intervention, Nkafamiya Rescue Mission (NRM), in partnership with Save the Children, Nigeria, conducted a joint field monitoring and capacity support visit across intervention areas in Yola North, Yola South, and Girei LGAs of Adamawa State.

The monitoring visit provided an opportunity to observe ongoing field activities, engage directly with frontline teams, identify areas for improvement, and provide technical guidance to strengthen the quality and effectiveness of project implementation.

Through collaboration with Community Based Hygiene Volunteers (CBHVs), Hygiene Promoters, and project teams, the exercise focused on strengthening knowledge, improving field practices, ensuring adherence to standards, and enhancing community level interventions.

The joint monitoring and support approach demonstrates the commitment of NRM and partners to continuous learning, accountability, and delivering impactful humanitarian assistance to communities.

Together, we continue to strengthen systems, empower frontline workers, and support communities in preventing and responding to cholera and other public health risks.

As climate related risks continue to affect communities, preparedness must begin before the water rises.

🎭 PSYCHOSOCIAL SUPPORT (PSS) SESSION | PROJECT BRIDGE

A moment of connection, healing, and resilience in action.

During field monitoring activities in Madagali LGA, the NRM monitoring team observed and engaged with ongoing Psychosocial Support (PSS) sessions designed to promote emotional well-being, social interaction, and resilience among community members.

Through safe spaces, group activities, and supportive engagement, participants are encouraged to express themselves, build confidence, strengthen relationships, and cope with the challenges associated with crisis situations.

At Nkafamiya Rescue Mission (NRM), we remain committed to strengthening protection services and ensuring that women, girls, and children receive the care, support, and dignity they deserve.

Every child deserves the healthiest start in life, and breastfeeding is one of the most powerful ways to ensure that.

As we commemorate World Breastfeeding Week, Nkafamiya Rescue Mission (NRM) reaffirms its commitment to promoting maternal and child health through nutrition education, community awareness, and support for mothers and caregivers.

Breastfeeding provides the perfect nutrition for babies, strengthens their immune systems, supports healthy growth and brain development, and creates a lasting bond between mother and child. We encourage mothers to:
✅ Initiate breastfeeding within the first hour after birth.
✅ Exclusively breastfeed for the first six months.
✅ Continue breastfeeding alongside appropriate complementary foods up to two years and beyond.

Breastfeeding is not only a mother's responsibility, it requires the support of families, communities, health workers, employers, and partners to create an enabling environment where every mother can breastfeed successfully.

FOOD AND DIGNITY KIT DISTRIBUTION ACROSS MAFA AND KONDUGA LGAs

Nkafamiya Rescue Mission (NRM), in partnership with the Norwegian Refugee Council and supported by the Nigeria Humanitarian Fund, successfully carried out the distribution of food assistance and dignity kits to vulnerable households across Mafa and Konduga Local Government Areas of Borno State.

The intervention is part of the project "Emergency Protection Support for Displacement-Affected Communities in Konduga and Mafa LGAs," aimed at reducing protection risks while improving the safety, dignity, and well-being of conflict-affected and displaced populations.

The distribution provided vulnerable households with essential food items to help meet immediate nutritional needs, while dignity kits equipped women and girls with critical personal hygiene supplies, promoting health, protection, and dignity.

Through this intervention, the project seeks to:

Provide timely humanitarian assistance to conflict-affected and displaced households.
Improve food security for vulnerable families.
Promote the dignity, health, and well-being of women and girls through the provision of essential hygiene materials.
Reduce protection risks associated with displacement and limited access to basic necessities.
Strengthen the resilience and coping capacities of vulnerable communities.

🧼 PROMOTING SAFER COMMUNITIES THROUGH DECONTAMINATION ACTIVITIES.

As part of the Cholera Emergency Response, Preparedness and Early Warning Intervention, Nkafamiya Rescue Mission (NRM), in partnership with Save the Children, Nigeria, continues to implement critical hygiene and sanitation interventions across Yola North, Yola South, and Girei LGAs of Adamawa State.

Through ongoing decontamination activities, trained teams are supporting communities to reduce environmental health risks by promoting improved sanitation practices and maintaining safer living spaces.

The activities involve the application of appropriate decontamination measures in identified areas, alongside community engagement and hygiene promotion efforts aimed at preventing the spread of cholera and other waterborne diseases.
Working closely with Community-Based Hygiene Volunteers (CBHVs), community leaders, and households, NRM is strengthening awareness, encouraging positive hygiene behaviours, and supporting communities to take proactive steps toward disease prevention.

These efforts reflect NRM’s commitment to protecting vulnerable populations and building resilient communities through timely preparedness, prevention, and response interventions.
