Today, AfRICOSUD joins the global community in celebrating International Women’s Day, honoring the resilience, leadership, and contributions of women and girls who continue to shape stronger, more peaceful, and more inclusive communities.

Across fragile and under-resourced communities, women are often at the forefront of peacebuilding, community resilience, and sustainable development. From mediating conflicts within families and communities to leading grassroots initiatives that empower young people, their role remains indispensable.

At African Resilient Initiative for Community & Sustainable Development (AfRICOSUD), we remain committed to advancing opportunities for women and girls through leadership development, civic engagement, education, and economic empowerment. We believe that when women and girls are empowered with the right skills, platforms, and opportunities, they become powerful agents of peace and sustainable change.

As we commemorate this year’s International Women’s Day, we reaffirm our commitment to promoting inclusive participation, protecting the rights of women and girls, and amplifying their voices in peacebuilding and community development processes.

Together, let us continue to accelerate progress toward a future where every woman and girl can thrive, lead, and contribute meaningfully to society.

Happy International Women’s Day!

On the International Day Against Violent Extremism, we reaffirm a simple but powerful truth: preventing violent extremism begins in the classroom.

Through our Educators for Peace Project AfRICOSUD is equipping teachers in conflict-affected communities with the tools to promote:

Peace education and critical thinking

Early identification of radicalization indicators

Inclusive dialogue across religious and ethnic divides

Non-violent conflict resolution skills

In fragile contexts where misinformation, identity-based grievances, and youth marginalization create fertile ground for extremist recruitment, teachers are not just instructors — they are frontline peacebuilders.

Our project has trained educators to integrate peace pedagogies into everyday teaching, fostering tolerance, empathy, respect for human rights, and resilience among young people. By strengthening the capacity of teachers, we are building protective factors within schools and communities.

Preventing violent extremism requires more than security responses. It demands community-driven, education-centered strategies that empower young people to choose dialogue over division.

We celebrate the educators who are shaping a generation resistant to hate, manipulation, and violence.

Peace is taught.
Resilience is learned.
Prevention is possible.

AfRICOSUD, in partnership with Marben Foundation, successfully organized a two-day Capacity-Building Workshop for Local Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Taraba State, held on 23rd–24th January 2026.

The workshop was designed to strengthen the institutional and programmatic capacity of local CSOs, with a focus on effective project implementation, accountability, organizational sustainability, and community-driven development.

This initiative reflects our shared commitment to empowering grassroots organizations as critical actors in advancing inclusive governance, peacebuilding, and sustainable development at the community level.

We appreciate the active participation of all CSOs and stakeholders who contributed to the success of the workshop and reaffirm our commitment to strengthening civil society for lasting impact in Taraba State.

The Educators for Peace project is not necessarily about making peace education a stand alone subject, rather it is empowering teachers in fragile communities with skills and resources that make these competences be embedded in classroom culture across subjects and disciplines.

We are intentional about raising a generation of young people who are equipped with skills to prevent violent extremism, conflict and ensure social cohesion, and teachers are the bridges we need.

Following the workshop, participants across Taraba, Benue and Adamawa state demonstrate how to infuse peace pedagogies in classroom teaching. Peace Starts Here!

Teachers are at the heart of shaping future generations, and by embedding peacebuilding into education, we are investing in a more harmonious and resilient society.

Adamawa cohort training held over two days brought over 28 teachers from fragile communities in the state to imagine what peace would look like from the classroom. For us, Peace starts here!

Educators for Peace – Benue Cohort Workshop

Over two transformative days, teachers from across Benue State gathered to strengthen their roles as peacebuilders in and beyond the classroom.

Through interactive sessions, reflection circles, and practical exercises, educators gained tools to nurture empathy, resolve conflicts peacefully, and foster inclusive learning spaces that promote long-term peace.

The Educators for Peace Project supported by Peace Direct continues to empower teachers as catalysts for peace and social cohesion in conflict-affected communities across Nigeria.
