20 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW FROM THE KEYNOTE SPEECH DELIVERED BY HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS EMIR OF MURI ALHAJI, ABBAS NJIDDA TAFIDA (OFR) AT THE ASAN-NIAS ANNUAL CONFERENCE (BAUCHI 2022)
1) We don't have enough feed for the animals and ourselves. And that's what we call the conflict between farmers and headers.There is no conflict between farmers and herders. The conflict is between failure and success.
2) The current status based on evidence is a conclusive economic failure of leadership of this nation in its policies and the implementation of those policies.
3) Science is an honest effort of everybody who has the opportunity to study nature, observe nature and come up with ideas that will create opportunities or remove impediments to opportunities.
4) I became animal scientist because I committed myself to being to the animals as a mother is to her newly born daughter.
5) The easiest way to improve all aspects in our lives as a country is for all of us especially those of us in leadership to become minimal scientists.
6) We become people who observe all the aspects sorrounding us. We become people who ask correct questions, at correct time. We become people who intend to find a solution for all the problems facing all of us at each point in time.
7) The current status of science and scientists in Nigeria now is a total disaster.
8) Our cow is giving us less than one litter per cow average, the world average is minimum of ten litters, and majority of developed world is fifty litters per animal per day.
9) We import equivalent of five hundred million litters of milk in powder annually. We are about the highest importer of milk powder in the world.
10) Our agriculture is total failure.
11) Fifty years ago Nigeria was just thirty six million. Today we are two hundred million. And the land does not change and does not increase. Land degradation is taking place every day.
12) The land is becoming less capable of producing what is used to produce in the sixties.
13) with super nepier (grass) we can get up to three hundred tones per anum from one hector of pasture. One hectare of napier can sustain thirty cows a year.
14) It is not farmers and headers that are fighting. It is governors, the emirs and the president that are failing.
15) We are self complementing with animals. We produce the food, we eat what we consider the best which is the grains, we give them the west and from the waste they manufacture fertilizer, give it back to us and we use it again in a cycle.
16) Niger State has the largest landmass in Nigeria couple with enough rainfall. The far North suffered from shortage of feed and ironically it has the highest population and the highest consumers.
17) One hectare of nepier (grass) gave the profit of two point five million Naira on investment of four hundred thousand Naira.
18) Because of our corruption, irresponsibility and disorganization, the best companies in the world (producing drugs) have virtually left Nigeria. Whatever you want to buy, you are going to buy it from quacks.
19) The best cow for meat production in Nigeria is Ngaoundere Gudali.
20) We should all become cattle rearers.
