Big Announcement!!!

We are proud to announce that Advocacy for Youth and Vulnerable Development Initiative (AYVDi) is now a member of the Youth Democracy Cohort.

The Youth Democracy Cohort is a global initiative launched under the Summit for Democracy and supported by the European Union, bringing together youth-led organizations working to advance civic participation and democratic engagement.

Over the years, AYVDi (formerly Literacy Assured Initiative) has consistently worked at the grassroots to promote informed and active citizenship.

From our voter education outreach in Ile Apa Community, to the Campaign in partnership with the YALI Network, Kwara State Hub, we have remained intentional about addressing voter apathy, discouraging electoral malpractice, and empowering young people to see themselves as critical actors in Nigeria’s democratic process.

Joining the Youth Democracy Cohort marks an important step forward in deepening our work. It provides an opportunity to learn, collaborate, and scale our efforts alongside other youth-led organizations committed to democratic development.

Happy International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Ge***al Mutilation 2026!

Today, as an organization, we stand in solidarity with millions of girls and women whose rights, health, and dignity have been threatened by this harmful practice.

FGM is a violation of human rights and a form of violence that has no health benefits, only lifelong physical, emotional, and psychological consequences. This day reminds us that culture must never be used to justify harm, and that every girl deserves to grow up safe, whole, and empowered to make choices about her own body.

Ending FGM requires collective action, strong laws, community-led education, survivor-centered support, and the courage to challenge deeply rooted norms. When families, traditional leaders, educators, health workers, and young people come together, change is not only possible, it is inevitable.

“How do female prisoners get sanitary pads during menstruation?”

In conversations around menstrual poverty and women’s empowerment, one group is consistently overlooked: incarcerated women.

While menstrual health discussions often focus on schoolgirls and women in low-income communities, female prisoners remain largely invisible despite facing some of the most severe forms of menstrual insecurity.

During a recent needs assessment with female inmates, it became clear that access to sanitary products is neither guaranteed nor dignified. Many women depend on irregular supplies, donations, or unsafe alternatives, putting their health, self-esteem, and dignity at risk.

It was against this backdrop that, last Saturday, Advocacy for Youth and Vulnerable Development Initiative (AYVDi), in partnership with Hope Alliance Initiative (HAI) and other partners, carried out Dignity Behind Bars, a menstrual dignity intervention at the Oke Kura Correctional Centre (Female Wing), Ilorin.

The intervention focused on ensuring that menstruation does not become an additional punishment for women already deprived of their freedom.

Through the donation of sanitary pads and essential hygiene materials, the project sought to restore dignity, reduce health risks, and affirm the humanity of incarcerated women.

Importantly, the support was structured not just for individuals present on the day but for the facility as a system, ensuring that current and future inmates would continue to benefit.

Dignity Behind Bars project reflects our continued mission to stand with vulnerable and forgotten populations, challenge silent injustices, and advocate for practical, dignity-centered solutions.

Partnership Announcement!

Advocacy for Youth and Vulnerable Development Initiative (AYVDi) is pleased to announce a partnership with Hope Alliance Initiative (HAI) on the Dignity Behind Bars project, a menstrual dignity intervention designed to restore dignity, safety, and wellbeing for women and girls in Nigerian correctional facilities.

The Dignity Behind Bars project responds to the often-overlooked menstrual health challenges faced by incarcerated women, including irregular access to sanitary pads, lack of privacy, inadequate hygiene facilities, and heightened emotional distress caused by stigma and confinement.

We look forward to the meaningful impact this collaboration will have on the lives of women who are too often excluded from mainstream menstrual health interventions.

To educate a girl is to empower a nation. At Advocacy for Youth and Vulnerable Development Initiative (AYVDi), we stand for every girl who dares to dream, to learn, and to lead because when she rises, the world rises with her.

Every girl deserves the chance to learn, to lead, and to live her truth.

Through our project as an organization, we’re building a world where girls are not just the future but the power of now, one girl at a time.

Let’s keep unlocking dreams, raising voices, and shaping a brighter, more equal world together.

International Day of the Girl Child 2025

Today, we at Advocacy for Youth and Vulnerable Development Initiative (AYVDi) reaffirms our commitment to empowering every girl. We believe when girls are given education, opportunities in digital literacy, and the support to overcome marginalisation, they can rise and lead change.

One of our key initiatives is the digital literacy and education outreach for vulnerable girls in Asunlope and Sentu communities, providing educational opportunities so they can access education and thrive in an increasingly educationally-marginalized country.

Through this, we are helping bridge the gap in access and opportunity. Let’s continue to raise voices, challenge barriers, and build a world where every girl can achieve boldly.
