The Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) has convened the Nigerian Industrialisation and Competitiveness Forum, bringing together government, private-sector leaders, development partners, industry experts and other key stakeholders to build consensus around an ex*****on-focused industrialisation agenda and accelerate reforms to improve productivity, competitiveness and investment in Nigeria.

Held from 18–19 August 2026 at Summit House, Lagos, the forum focused on moving Nigeria’s industrialisation agenda beyond policy formulation towards coordinated implementation and measurable economic outcomes. The Forum was convened against the backdrop of structural constraints that continue to affect Nigeria’s industrial competitiveness, including high production costs, unreliable energy supply, infrastructure deficits, limited access to long-term finance, skills gaps, low technology adoption and fragmented policy implementation. Discussions, therefore, centered on strengthening coordination between the public and private sectors and creating an enabling environment for investment, productivity, value addition, and job creation.

Participants emphasised the importance of stronger linkages across key productive sectors, including agriculture and agro-processing, mining and steel, oil and gas, manufacturing, energy, logistics and the blue economy. They noted that coordinated investments in infrastructure, technology, skills, finance and market access would be critical to increasing domestic value addition, strengthening productivity and positioning Nigerian businesses to compete more effectively in regional and global markets.

🚨 New Report - Turning Potential Into Progress: Accelerating Nigeria's Industrialisation for Economic Transformation

The global economy sustained growth in the first half of 2026 despite mounting geopolitical tensions and increased uncertainty arising from the Middle East crisis. While global growth momentum moderated, Nigeria's economy remained resilient, supported by stronger non-oil sector performance, improved private sector activity, a stronger external position, and continued investor confidence. However, renewed inflationary pressures, fiscal constraints, and persistent structural challenges underscore the need for accelerated industrialisation to drive sustainable and inclusive economic growth.

To provide deeper insights into these developments, the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) is pleased to share its 2026 Half-Year Outlook report themed "Turning Potential Into Progress: Accelerating Nigeria's Industrialisation for Economic Transformation". The report reviews key global and domestic economic trends, examines the imperative of industrialisation for Nigeria's economic transformation and inclusion, and presents the outlook for the Nigerian economy in the second half of 2026.
