An August Visitor We Were Glad to Welcome!

On Tuesday, 11th August 2026, Brokline Foundation (BLF) welcomed the African Network of Adolescents and Young Persons Development - ANAYD team and the GEF Ambassador, for a supportive monitoring visit under the Gender Equality Fund (GEF), a part of HER Voice Fund with Y+ Global as its implementing partner.

As the Country Lead Organization for GEF, ANAYD’s visit provided an opportunity to review the progress of the SHINE-GEF Project, assess implementation and documentation, reflect on achievements and lessons learned, and receive valuable technical feedback and support from both project team and AGYW beneficiaries.

Beyond monitoring, it was a meaningful opportunity for reflection, learning, feedback and shared growth. We appreciate ANAYD for the constructive engagement, guidance and continued support as we work together to advance gender equality and amplify the voices of AGYW.

We remain committed to strengthening our work and ensuring that Adolescents Girls and Young Women are meaningfully engaged in decisions that affect their health, rights and wellbeing. 💜🤝🏽

International Youth Day 2026

Young people may come from different backgrounds, communities, and circumstances, but our aspirations remain connected.
We want to be heard, included, empowered, and given the opportunity to shape the future we want.

For Brokline Foundation (BLF), we believe young people are not merely beneficiaries of development, they are partners, leaders, advocates, and changemakers.

This International Youth Day, we celebrate the confidence, creativity, resilience, and leadership of young people, especially Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW), Young people and Adolescents living with HIV(ALHIV), young people with disabilities, and other underserved young people whose voices deserve a place in every decision that affects their lives.

From health and education to gender equality, climate action and social justice, meaningful youth participation must move beyond consultation to real influence and decision-making.

Strengthening Partnerships for Meaningful AGYW Inclusion in Malaria Decision-Making

With support from the Global Civil Society for Malaria Elimination (CS4ME), BLF successfully convened a Stakeholders' Roundtable meeting on 31st July 2026 to present and validate findings from the stakeholder mapping and baseline assessment and to secure stakeholder commitments towards institutionalizing Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) participation in the State Malaria Technical Working Group (TWG) and other malaria coordination platforms.

The meeting brought together, the Director of Public Health, State Ministry of Health, PM State Malaria Elimination Programme (SMEP), SAPC SASCP, Adolescent health coordinator, Ministry of Women Affairs, ACOMIN, civil society organizations, and AGYW advocates to the table where our evidence-based Advocacy Brief was presented, calling for AGYW representation in the State Malaria Technical Working Group (TWG), Advocacy, Communication and Social Mobilization (ACSM) Committee, and other malaria coordination platforms.

The meeting produced positive commitments:

✅ SMEP PM committed to inviting AGYW representatives to the State Malaria Technical Working Group (TWG) and Advocacy, Communication and Social Mobilization (ACSM) quarterly meetings.

✅ The Adolescent Health Coordinator committed to including AGYW in quarterly Adolescent Health meetings.

✅ ACOMIN pledged to invite AGYW to its meetings and present the advocacy asks to its network for consideration.

✅ The Director of Public Health, represented by the Technical Adviser to the Honourable Commissioner for Health, reaffirmed the Ministry's collaboration with Brokline Foundation and committed to inviting AGYW to relevant Ministry of Health meetings.

During the plenary session discussions, the SMEP PM commended BLF's community sensitization efforts and encouraged continued awareness on the proper use of Long-Lasting Insecticide-Treated Nets (LLINs), while the Ministry of Women Affairs representative called for stronger collaboration with it's Ministry and the Ministry of Youth Development to promote youth participation, gender equality and sustainable community impact.

These discussions and commitments mark an important step toward building a more inclusive, responsive, and people-centered malaria response where the voices of adolescent girls and young women help shape policies and programmes that affect their health and wellbeing.

We sincerely appreciate all stakeholders for their active participation, valuable contributions, and unwavering commitment to ensuring that no decision about AGYW is made without AGYW.

Brokline Foundation Participates in the 2026 World Breastfeeding Week Advocacy Walk

BLF proudly joined the 2026 World Breastfeeding Week Advocacy Walk and the official flag-off of the Ibom Open Maternity (IOM) Project 2026, organized by the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare in collaboration with the Ibom Open Maternity Project and partners.

The event was officially flagged off by the Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady of Akwa Ibom State, Lady Helen Eno Obareki, represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Hon. Inibehe Silas Etukudo. She emphasized the importance of exclusive breastfeeding as the safest, most complete, and most affordable source of nutrition for infants, urging nursing mothers to give every child the healthiest possible start in life.

The event also marked the launch of the Ibom Open Maternity Project 2026, a statewide initiative aimed at improving maternal and child healthcare through free medical outreach services across 20 Local Government Areas, beginning with Ukanafun and Oruk Anam LGAs.

The advocacy walk brought together government officials, development partners, healthcare professionals, civil society organizations, women's groups, youth organizations, and other stakeholders, all united in promoting maternal and child health and increasing awareness of the life-saving benefits of breastfeeding.

At Brokline Foundation, we remain committed to supporting initiatives that promote healthier families, improve maternal and child health outcomes, and strengthen community well-being through strategic partnerships and advocacy.

BROKLINE F0UNDATION AT THE 2024 ART IMPACT SURVEY (AIS) RESULTS DISSEMINATION.

Brokline Foundation was honoured to participate in the official dissemination of the 2024 ART Impact Survey (AIS) results for Akwa Ibom State held at Four Points by Sheraton, Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State on the 23rd July, 2026.

BLF was represented by our Executive Director, who attended in a dual capacity as the ED and Deputy Coordinator of CiSHAN Akwa Ibom, alongside our Executive Assistant, Program Officer, and AGYW Advocate.

The event brought together key stakeholders, including the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr Ekem Emmanuel John; the SASCP Coordinator, Dr. Aniekan Umoh; the Project Manager of Akwa Ibom State Agency for the Control of AIDS - Aksaca , Dr Enobong Akpan; the Executive Secretary of PHCDA, Dr. Eno Attah; and representatives of NACA, NASCP, USG, NCDC, APIN/PHIS3, NEPWHAN, Nynetha Akwa Ibom, and other implementing partners and civil society organizations.

One finding that stood out was the higher HIV prevalence among women (6.3%) compared to men (2.2%), indicating that women bear nearly three times the burden of the epidemic in Akwa Ibom State. This underscores the need for sustained investment in women and girls through prevention, quality health services, empowerment, and meaningful participation in the HIV response.

At Brokline Foundation, we remain committed to championing evidence-based interventions and amplifying the voices of Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) in shaping a more inclusive and effective HIV response.

Together, we can accelerate the progress toward ending HIV in Akwa Ibom State.

Early this month, we received a thoughtful gift from Mr. Godwin Udoh of PSI—IEC materials, T-shirts, face caps, jotters, pamphlets, and training resources on Menstrual Health and Hygiene.

This support is more than a donation; it is a recognition of our commitment to advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) among Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW). Every resource received strengthens our capacity to educate, empower, and create safe spaces where girls and young women can make informed decisions about their health and well-being.

Our sincere appreciation to Mr. Godwin Udoh and the PSI team for believing in our work and investing in the future of the young people we serve.
Together, we keep advancing health, dignity, and opportunities for every AGYW.
