“A Cry Across the Creek”

In the early morning quiet of Ilaje Local Government when the mist still dances on the water, a mother places her sick child gently inside a wooden canoe. She paddles… not because she wants to, but because she must.
The river is her only road. The canoe is her only ambulance. And time, her greatest enemy.

For families in these over 20 riverine communities, the journey to healthcare is never a simple trip - it is a test of courage.
A test many do not survive.

At the center of this story stands the Steven & Christiana Omomehin Memorial Hospital, built with love and hope to serve a people cut off by water, poverty, and distance.
A hospital meant to bring healing closer…
Yet today, it struggles to remain open.

When BruderHilfe first arrived here, we met mothers who carried their babies for miles across muddy shores… fathers who lost loved ones because help came too late… young girls who dreamed of becoming nurses but had no opportunity to stay and serve their own people.

We brought medical supplies, consumables, maternity kits, and emergency support -
But the heart of the hospital needs more than supplies.
It needs people, and it needs access.

Doctors and nurses often cannot stay because of the harsh terrain.
When emergencies strike, there is no speedboat to bring help across the creeks.
And without stable funding, the hospital risks going silent - leaving over 100,000 people without care.

But this does not have to be the end of the story.

During the last visit to Ondo state, Bruderhile visited the site where a new home is being constructed for Omowunmi Enikannaye, a 70 year old Grandmothe, caring for 4 of her grandchildren, who used to live in a dilapidated apartment in Ago-Debo community, Ilaje LGA. The roof has been roofed and is almoost nearing completion. Mrs. Bruder assured Grandma Omowunmi of plans to ensure the flooring, plastering, Doors & windows are completed before the end of the year, as her old house is already falling and she is forced to live in the building under construction

After the donations, The BruderHilfe team and dignitaries present also went on a tour of the Stephen and Christiana Omomehin memorial Hospital, Ori-Oke Iwamimo, to access the state of the new edifice and were impressed by the standard facilities and structure in place. The hospital serves more than 50 riverine communities in the Ilaje Local Government area of Ondo state. BruderHilfe reinstated it's commitment in ensuring support for the full functioning of the hospital.
