Eid Mubarak 🌙✨

Dear Esteemed Volunteers and Members,
Especially our Beloved Muslim Ummah,

On behalf of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Lagos State Branch, I warmly felicitate with all our Muslim volunteers and members on the joyous occasion of Eid al-Fitr.

Eid is a powerful reminder of sacrifice; sacrifice in devotion, in discipline, and in obedience. These same values are at the very heart of Red Cross activities and operations. Every day, as volunteers and members, we make sacrifices of our time, our resources, our skills and even our comfort all to serve humanity and bring hope to those in need.

This season calls us to reflect deeply: that true impact is born out of what we are willing to give for others. Your commitment and selfless service embody the true spirit of both Eid and the Red Cross: humanity, compassion and voluntary service.

As we celebrate, may the blessings of this season renew your strength, reward your sacrifices, and fill your hearts with peace and joy. May your acts of giving continue to touch lives and inspire hope across our communities.

Let us remain united in purpose, continuing to give selflessly, knowing that in every sacrifice, humanity gains.

Eid Mubarak to you and your families! 🌙💫

With warm regards,

Dr. Victoria Adebola Kolawole

Distinguished Female Members,

As the world commemorates International Women’s Day 2026, the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Lagos State Branch celebrates the strength, resilience, compassion, and remarkable contributions of women.

This year’s theme, , reminds us that when women give through compassion, service, leadership, and sacrifice; society gains hope, strength, and progress. Every act of kindness, every hand extended to help another, and every effort to uplift communities reflects the very spirit of humanity that the Red Cross stands for.

Women are natural agents of compassion. Through their generosity, courage, and dedication to service, they continue to inspire change, nurture communities, and bring healing where it is needed most. At the Red Cross, we see this every day through the countless women who give their time, energy, and hearts to serve humanity.

NRCS & BRC Advance Flood Risk Assessment in Bogunde Community.

As part of the British Red Cross (BRC) expansion plan in The Lagos State Government , a three-day Enhanced Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment (EVCA) exercise was successfully conducted and concluded yesterday at Bogunde Community, Ajegunle, Kosofe Local Government Area.

The assessment was led by Mr. Oladimeji Ige, Disaster Management Officer, Lagos State Branch of the Nigerian Red Cross Society; Mr. Gabriel Nashon, Disaster Management Coordinator from Nigerian Red Cross Society National Headquarters, Abuja; and Ms. Diana Gideon, Programme Coordinator of the British Red Cross. Their leadership provided strong technical guidance, ensured adherence to EVCA standards, and reinforced coordination between the Branch, National Headquarters, and the British Red Cross.

The three-day engagement brought together Community Leaders, community members, members of the Community Resilience Committee (CRC), and Red Cross officers who collectively carried out the participatory assessment. The process created a safe and inclusive platform for open dialogue on risks, vulnerabilities, and existing community capacities.

Using standard EVCA participatory tools, the team facilitated hazard mapping, seasonal calendar analysis, vulnerability ranking, and identification of local coping mechanisms. Given the flood-prone nature of the area, special focus was placed on understanding flood patterns, environmental risk factors, exposure levels, and the socio-economic effects of recurrent flooding on households and livelihoods.

Community members demonstrated strong engagement throughout the exercise, contributing valuable local knowledge and practical insights into risk management strategies. The active involvement of traditional and community leaders strengthened ownership of the process and enhanced transparency. The Community Resilience Committee members played a critical role in mobilization, coordination, and documentation of assessment findings.

Preliminary observations indicate that flooding in Bogunde Community is largely influenced by drainage challenges, environmental sanitation issues, and dense settlement patterns. Despite these vulnerabilities, the community possesses notable strengths, including organized leadership structures, youth participation, and readiness to collaborate with the Red Cross on risk reduction and early warning initiatives.

The successful completion of the EVCA in Bogunde Community marks a significant milestone under the BRC expansion plan in Kosofe LGA. It further demonstrates the commitment of the Lagos State Branch to evidence-based programming and community-driven disaster risk reduction.

The exercise will continue in four additional flood-affected communities within the LGA, with each engagement scheduled to last three days. Findings from all five communities will be consolidated to inform strategic planning, resilience-building interventions, and sustainable flood mitigation initiatives.

The Bogunde assessment stands as a practical demonstration of partnership, coordination, and collective humanitarian action aimed at strengthening community resilience in Lagos State.

đźš© RED CROSS IN ACTION ACROSS LAGOS! đźš©

For five straight days, the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Lagos State Branch, has been on the ground, house by house, street by street, community by community, reaching families where they live and work.

With over 5,300 trained Red Cross volunteers deployed across all 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs of Lagos State, intensive Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) activities are ongoing ahead of the Measles–Rubella vaccination exercise in The Lagos State Government

This massive mobilisation is being made possible with the generous support of the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention CDC and the American Red Cross through International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, whose partnership continues to strengthen life-saving interventions at the grassroots.

Before stepping into communities, volunteers underwent one full week of intensive training, led by trained Supervisors who were earlier equipped at the Branch Office through a Training of Trainers (ToT). In close collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Health Primary Health Care Board, Health Educators, and Local Immunisation Officers, volunteers were prepared with:

✔️ Accurate Measles–Rubella key messages
✔️ Interpersonal communication
✔️ Red Cross Code of Conduct and humanitarian principles
✔️ Data collection and daily reporting tools

For the past five days from Sunday 25th January, 2026, these volunteers have been in the field, listening, engaging, correcting misinformation and building trust. Each volunteer reaches an average of 50 households daily, speaking local languages and helping caregivers understand why the Measles–Rubella vaccine is safe, free, and life-saving for children aged 9 months to 14 years.

This operation is being carried out in full support of the Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board, in line with the Nigerian Red Cross Society's role as an auxiliary to government in health and emergency response. Government Health Educators and Local Immunisation Officers are working hand-in-hand with Red Cross teams to ensure no community is left behind.

đź’¬ This is what humanitarian action at scale looks like.
đź’¬ This is what community trust in action means.
💬 This is the Red Cross — everywhere, for everyone.

❤️ Five days on the field.
❤️ Thousands of households reached.
❤️ One mission: protect every child.
