OGA was again at the Lagos State House of Assembly Yesterday to support our dear people of Makoko at the follow up meeting after the house committee on public petitions inspection visit to Makoko on Monday.

The Assembly is indeed grateful to the four-member delegation made up of the following people:

1. Prof Jendele Hungbo (the Convener)
2. Prof Senayon Olaoluwa (a Steering Committee Member)
3. Mr Sewedo Nupowaku (who came with his amiable wife)
4. Chief Pentho Francis

Inspection to Makoko

As a follow-up to the Ogu General Assembly's meeting with the Lagos State House of Assembly's Ethics Committee last Tuesday, another committee of the House; the committee on Rules and Business, was delegated to go on an inspection of the demolition site in Makoko today, Monday, February 9, 2026. OGA was formally invited to be part of the inspection. So, these distinguished members of the Assembly whom you see on the water were on their way to Makoko.

Very many thanks to all of you OGA members for being OGA, and for making OGA what it has become. Thank you for your determination to become a voice for the Ogu wherever they may be found.

Ogu General Assembly Joins Makoko, Holds Talks with Lagos State Government

A delegation of Ogu General Assembly joined their Makoko kinsmen earlier today, Tuesday, February 3, 2026, to find a lasting solution to the strategic eviction of the Ogu in waterfront communities by the Lagos State Government.
Among other things, OGA established the indigeneity of the Ogu within the Lagos metropolis and the attempt by the Lagos State Government to wipe out this indigenous minority.
In the response of both the legislature and the executive, it was made very clear that the Ogu are an indigenous group in the city of Lagos besides the Yoruba.
The immediate outcome of this engagement promises some succour as the resolutions passed hold the following:

1. That the demolition had been ordered to stop.
2. That there will be quality compensation for the victims
3. That Makoko water front community will not go down like Otodogbamẹ because it is recognized as the ancestral homeland of the Ogu.

On the OGA delagetion to the hearing included Prof. Senayon Olaoluwa, Chief Pentho Francis, Mr Kunnu Theophilus and Mr. Sẹ́wẹdọ Nupówaku.

OGA Mourns as Akran Goes Home

The Board of Trustees, Steering Committee and the entire Members of Ogu General Assembly join the Ganyikọ́ Ruling House of Jẹgba Quarters, the good people of Badagry Kingdom, Lagos State, Ogu nation and Nigeria, in mourning the eternal departure of His Imperial Majesty, De Whénọ, Àhọ́lú Menu-Toyi 1, OFR, LLD (Honoris Causa), D. Ltt. (Honoris Causa), JP, the Akran of Badagry and Paramount Ruler of Badagry Kingdom.
May he travel well to the great beyond.
