About HAGAI
Empowering Communities. Advancing Equity. Sustaining Impact.
Health Awareness and Gender Advocacy Initiative (HAGAI) is a dynamic, community-driven Nigerian NGO transforming lives through public health innovation, gender justice, child protection, and sustainable development.
Founded in 2000 and formally registered in 2007 with the Corporate Affairs Commission, HAGAI has become a trusted partner to government agencies, civil society networks, community structures, and international donors. Our programs are culturally responsive, evidence-informed, and multi-sectoral, designed to build community resilience and drive long-term impact across Nigeria.
At HAGAI, we believe that health, equality, and dignity are fundamental human rights. We work passionately to improve health outcomes, promote gender equity, and strengthen child protection systems, especially among key populations and marginalized groups. Through advocacy, capacity building, behavioral change communication, youth engagement, and women empowerment, we inspire individuals and communities to lead the change they seek.
Our leadership and membership reflect Nigeria’s diversity — women, youth, people with disabilities, and individuals of diverse orientations — united by one vision: a just and inclusive society where everyone can thrive.
Over the years, HAGAI has delivered impactful projects across Lagos, the South-West region, Abuja, and other parts of Nigeria, earning recognition for its excellence in program design, accountability, and results. We have implemented successful interventions in partnership with prestigious institutions such as the World Bank, PEPFAR, American Embassy, Global Fund, Government of Nigeria, Lagos State Ministries and Agencies, MTN Foundation, Hope Worldwide Nigeria, Slow Food Negroni Week Fund, and various civil society networks.
Through our initiatives, we have built capacity, empowered grassroots leaders, and amplified the voices of marginalized groups to influence policies on sexual and reproductive health, stigma and discrimination, and rights-based participation in governance.
Our work also extends to sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programs that provide safe water, improved sanitation, and hygiene education — particularly for rural women and girls. These initiatives, supported by local and international partners, demonstrate HAGAI’s unwavering commitment to equity, sustainability, and community transformation.
At HAGAI, we are not just implementing projects — we are building movements of empowered people and resilient communities, shaping a future where no one is left behind.
