Hi good climate lovers! 🌿💚
How did I know you're one? Because you've been consistent with our Posts!
It’s Favour Adache again sliding into your cozy DMs from the JOMO Climate Change Initiative, and I’m elated to serve you more gist from the climate table—hot hot! ♨️
😉
What's the weather like over there?
Mine has been swinging like a yo-yo—one minute cold ❄️, the next, I’m sweating buckets 😅.
Whatever the case, please stay safe and hydrated! 🚰❤️
Today's hot topic?
The beauty of agriculture in environmental sustainability! 🌾🌍
Yes, it’s that time of the year when farmers take bold steps to sow, regardless of the rising cost of living—because, as we say, "man must chop na!" 🍲
And when we pass by farmlands and see those tiny sprouts and green hopes pushing through? 🌱✨
We all think one thing:
“Yield!!!”
Everyone wants yield—whether you're a farmer or a buyer. It helps keep food prices down and our tummies full 🍛 (so that the cost of living doesn't kill the living, abi? 😅).
That’s why farmers go the extra mile 🧑🌾🚜.
But what if I told you...
There are cost-effective and climate-smart ways to farm this season with a high chance of yield? ✅🌦️
Yes, you heard right! Let me share just a few:
🍀 1. Use Drought-Tolerant or Early-Maturing Seeds
The rains may be shaky 🌧️, so planting fast-growing crops like maize, sorghum, cowpea, or millet is a smart move.
You can get these improved seeds from certified agro-dealers like:
Seedco, Premier Seeds, Value Seeds
Or through government and NGO programs like:
Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security
(FMAFS) – runs seed distribution each planting season.
International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) International Institute of Tropical Agriculture
(IITA) – offers drought-resistant varieties.
Do a quick search 🔍 or ask your local extension officer for help accessing these.
🍀 2. Use Organic Fertilizer / Compost ♻️
Compost improves soil health 🌿 and seedling strength—without costly chemicals. It’s also great for the environment 🌎.
Make yours from:
Animal dung 🐄
Kitchen waste 🥬
Decomposed plant material 🌱
Whether you farm on a large scale or tend a backyard veggie garden—this is for you! 🧑🌾🪴
Let’s take small steps that lead to big wins—for our pockets 💸, our plates 🍽️, and most importantly, our planet 🌍.
Brave climate actions with our hoes and hands! 🛠️
