Beloved President Soga, you taught us a lot while you were here: generosity, commitment, large heartedness, visionary leadership, et alia.
Now that you have left, you are teaching us more. Central to that is the eternal truth that men hardly know the value of what they have till they lose such.
Your departure has created a vacuum in VICOSA that will be difficult to fill. Why? You served VICOSA with your MEANS, your PASSION and your TIME. After you, those that have the means, may not have the passion. Those that have the passion may not have the means and the time. Those that have the time may not have the passion and the means. Olori Omooba Soga, you gave your all to VCI and VICOSA. Prince Sofolahan, in the history of VCI and VICOSA, your name is already written in gold.
"Here was a Caesar, when comes another?"
You can boldly say that while you were on this side of eternity, (as my Senior Gbenga quoted), Veni, Vici, Vidi. You came, you saw, you conquered.
ADIEU BELOVED PRESSY!

Why Fathers Are Neglected in Old Age – A Must-Read for Every Father (and Mother Too!)

In most Nigerian families, the dynamics of power shift through different stages of life. Many fathers start as the authoritative figure, only to find themselves sidelined later in life. Why does this happen? Let’s break it down.

The first 25 years of family life are often dominated by the father. He is the provider, the decision-maker, and sometimes, the disciplinarian. Many fathers rule with an iron fist, ensuring their children fear them more than they love them. The father’s role is clear—he works tirelessly to provide, while the mother often serves as the nurturer, the one who bonds with the children on a deeper emotional level.

Then, a shift occurs. As the children grow up, finish school, and begin earning their own money, their loyalty often gravitates toward their mother. She was the one who comforted them, listened to their problems, and stood beside them when their father was too busy or too strict. The mother becomes the center of their emotional world. When gifts are given, when financial support is needed, when babysitting is required—it’s the mother they call first.

By the time the children have moved out and started their own families, the balance of power has completely changed. The father, once the head of the household, now finds himself on the sidelines. If tensions arise between him and his wife, the children almost always take their mother’s side, reinforcing the divide. In many cases, fathers who once ruled with absolute authority now find themselves feeling isolated, unheard, and, in some heartbreaking cases, completely abandoned.

For men who failed to build an emotional connection with their family, old age can be particularly harsh. Health issues like hypertension and stroke become common, worsened by stress and loneliness. A man may have provided for his family, but if he never nurtured relationships, he may find himself surrounded by people yet feeling utterly alone.

So, what’s the lesson here? Fathers, while you are in a position of power, think beyond the present. Lead with love, not just authority. Bond with your children, spend time with your wife, and create a home built on respect, not fear. One day, when the power shifts, you will want to be remembered as a father who was loved, not just obeyed.

To children, never forget the sacrifices your father made. He may not have been perfect, but he worked hard to give you a future. Honor both your parents and care for them in their old age. This is not just about gratitude,it’s about setting an example for your own future.

To mothers, do not turn your children against their father. Parenting is a difficult journey, and no one has a perfect manual. Instead of fostering division, encourage love and understanding.

Family is everything. May we all strive to build bonds that stand the test of time.

Very deep, can't help my thoughts here since days ago.

Our diversities and differences remains our strength; our unity and similarities remains our wisdom.

I remembered how you requested for a leadership book I once posted on this platform months ago, and immediately you ordered for it online.

No matter our differences, same blood flows in our veins, I am happy God used me too to prescribed divine advises during our ideological clashes in moving VICOSA forward!

Your sudden death has surely transformed and accelerated my learning processes!

We all love you beyond words....

BOT OF VICTORY COLLEGE MOURNS OLUSOGA SOFOLAHAN, THE FORMER PRESIDENT OF VICOSA

"The BOT expresses shock and sadness at the sudden passage of Dr Soga Sofolahan, the immediate Past President of VICOSA. We commiserate deeply with his immediate and extended family; VCI our Alma mater, all members of VICOSA, especially the 1986 Set, his Set, and the CTC, who have promptly taken appropriate steps to honour him by suspending all ongoing and impending VICOSA activities till well after his burial, as well as directing all VICOSA platforms and organs to honour his memory. His great selfless service to VICOSA & VCI remains acknowledged. We should see his passage as a big challenge to all of us left behind to unite and strive to ensure that all his good wishes for Victory College and VICOSA are realised . We are all mortals and can't be perfect. May God forgive his sins and admit him into His glory. We cannot question the finality of death as only God can order our steps. May the Good Lord preserve all those he left behind, including us, VCI & VICOSA. The greatest respect we can offer to his memory is to bury all the hatchet, leave the past in the past, and forge ahead, remembering his good deeds and legacies. The BOT directs the CTC to network with the family & VCI Principal to ensure that VICOSA accords him all necessary burial accolades and rites consistent with the desire of the family.
This is indeed a sad and trying time for the VICOSA family. His passage has hit the family like a thunderbolt, too sudden for it not to be baffling. We pray for God's comforting balm to console the family and all VICOSA. May He grant the late Sofolahan glorious passage, have mercy and accept him unto His right hand. Adieu Soga, till we shall meet to part no more. VCI will miss you, VICOSA will miss you".

Mr Bode Ariyo,
Secretary, BOT.
