𝙄 𝙝𝙖𝙙 𝙖𝙡𝙬𝙖𝙮𝙨 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬𝙣 𝙄 𝙬𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙙𝙖𝙮 𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙖𝙠 𝙩𝙤 𝙨𝙩𝙪𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙎𝘿𝙂𝙨 𝙖𝙨 𝙖𝙣 𝘼𝙙𝙫𝙤𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙚

What I didn’t know was how deeply fulfilling and energizing it would be.

As part of my ongoing journey in the UN SDSN Youth - Nigeria Cohort 6 Advocacy Program, I recently carried out my Own_A_School project at Birch Freeman Senior Secondary School, engaging students in an honest, interactive conversation about the Sustainable Development Goals .

I introduced them to the five pillars of the : People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, and Partnerships. We explored how these pillars guide global efforts to improve lives and protect our world.

I also explained how the SDGs took over from the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), expanding the vision to include more inclusive and comprehensive targets to leave no one behind.

To make it real, I asked the students about the problems we face as individuals and how these connect to the bigger global challenges the SDGs aim to solve.

We broke down what the SDGs are, why they matter, and most importantly, how they connect to our everyday lives from quality education and gender equality to climate action and responsible consumption.

These students didn’t just listen; they engaged. They reflected. And they left with the awareness that they, too, have a role in shaping a better Nigeria and a better world.

It was a reminder that advocacy is not always about big stages , sometimes, it’s about showing up in a classroom, starting conversations, and planting seeds.

I’m incredibly grateful to the UN SDSN Youth program for equipping us with the knowledge and tools to take this message to our communities. And I’m even more grateful for opportunities like this , where learning becomes impact.

We're still on the path to 2030, and there’s work to do. But this was a step in the right direction.

𝑳𝒆𝒕’𝒔 𝒃𝒆 𝒉𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒕. When people hear the word “𝙫𝙤𝙡𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜,” most of them think of 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫, “𝐭𝐫𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞,” 𝐨𝐫 𝐝𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐥𝐥 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐟. But what if I told you that volunteering has quietly become one of the best career cheat codes especially for young professionals trying to find their path?

𝑻𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒊𝒔 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒐𝒓𝒚. 𝑰𝒕’𝒔 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆. 𝑰𝒕’𝒔 𝒎𝒚 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆.

𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙄𝙩 𝘼𝙡𝙡 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙚𝙙

In 2019, as an undergraduate in Ijebu Ode, I joined the Teen Girls Enlightenment Initiative founded by Dr. Adebusola Okedele. At the time, I wasn’t looking for fame or applause , I was simply a young girl trying to rebuild what had been lost: my self-esteem, my voice, and my belief in myself.

Growing up, I battled deeply with self-doubt and silence. I had passion, I had ideas, but I didn’t know how to express them — or if they were even valid. 𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐦𝐲 𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐲 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠.

I wanted to make impact, but I also wanted to grow. I needed a space that would push me out of my comfort zone. That’s exactly what volunteering gave me.

Let’s be real 📍 Adulting is loud. But no one really tells you that the noise starts way before graduation.

Now that many of us are done with school and knee-deep in the job-hunting, career-building, dream-chasing phase, some things are starting to make sense... and others?

𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐥, 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲’𝐫𝐞 𝐚 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 “𝐈 𝐰𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐈 𝐤𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐫” 𝐦𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬.

📍Let’s talk about the common mistakes young professionals make, and how they often start from our undergraduate days, not to judge, but to reflect and reset.

1. 𝙒𝙖𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙏𝙤𝙤 𝙇𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙤 𝘽𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙙 𝙎𝙠𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙨 𝙊𝙪𝙩𝙨𝙞𝙙𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘾𝙡𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙧𝙤𝙤𝙢

Back in school, a lot of us thought 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐬 = 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞. So we focused strictly on textbooks, notes, and exams.

But the real sauce? It was in the extra volunteering, internships, digital skills, leadership, networking. These are the things that make your CV pop and your confidence louder in interviews.

Many young professionals realize too late that they didn’t build real-world experience early enough. Now they’re scrambling for skills after graduation.

𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧? 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐤 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐲, 𝐲𝐞𝐬, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝, 𝐭𝐨𝐨.

2. 𝘼𝙫𝙤𝙞𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙋𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙨 𝙏𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝘾𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙃𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝘽𝙤𝙤𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙊𝙪𝙧 𝙑𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙗𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮

Let’s be honest 📍 Many of us were “𝐠𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐬” 𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐞𝐝𝐈𝐧 𝐨𝐫 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐮𝐦 during school. We thought, “What do I even post?” Meanwhile, some of our mates were already documenting their journeys, sharing thoughts, and showing up online.

Now, in the professional world, those people have visibility. They have a digital footprint. And some of us are just learning to set up a LinkedIn account.

𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧? 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲. 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞.

Dear Woman, Dear Me!
𝐈𝐭'𝐬 𝐀 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞

Today, I choose to pause, reflect, and celebrate myself not just for what I have achieved, but for the battles I have fought, the courage I have embraced, and the impact I continue to make.

I am Omolade Gbemisola, a woman of vision, resilience, and action. I have stood in rooms where I once felt unqualified, spoken words that carried weight, and taken steps that scared me but shaped me.

I have lifted others while carrying my own struggles, and through it all, I have kept moving forward.

But today isn’t just about me. It’s about us—𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒏 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒆 𝒅𝒆𝒔𝒑𝒊𝒕𝒆 𝒐𝒃𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒄𝒍𝒆𝒔, 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝒃𝒖𝒊𝒍𝒅 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒍𝒊𝒎𝒊𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒄𝒆𝒔, 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆, 𝒏𝒖𝒓𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒅 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒇𝒊𝒆𝒓𝒄𝒆 𝒅𝒆𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏.

This is more than a day of celebration; it is a reminder of our power. We are not waiting for permission to take up space, to speak up, to build, and to thrive. 𝙒𝙚 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙪𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙬𝙚 𝙙𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙚.

With my passion for empowering people and seeing them grow through quality education, I finally made this happen through 360 Growth Initiative and it has been a fulfilling experience!

One thing I’ve learned on this journey is that big things can happen from a little place as long as you understand the vision and take action.

𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙖𝙨 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙖𝙣 𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙖 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙢𝙚 𝙖 𝙤𝙣𝙚-𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙝 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜, 𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙤𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝙗𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙨𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙤 𝙙𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙜𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙨, 𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙗𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙨, 𝙛𝙡𝙮𝙚𝙧𝙨, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙨𝙤𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙢𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙖 𝙙𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙜𝙣𝙨 𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙥𝙝𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙨!

We had over 50 people sign up, but only few stayed committed till the end and got certified—because let’s be real, learning a skill takes discipline, consistency, and dedication! And that’s exactly what this bootcamp was about.
