Following the recent disclaimer video released by FUTO GIST to address and discredit the initially reposted viral video which was later discovered to be misleading, Man O War hereby reaffirms to the general public that the authenticity of the said video was not properly confirmed before it was reposted.

Upon further investigation, it became clear that the content contained misleading information. We sincerely acknowledge this oversight and encourage other media platforms and outlets that shared the content to also assist by reposting the disclaimer in the interest of truth and public responsibility.

As part of ongoing efforts by both our organization and the school management to carry out effective damage control and prevent further spread of misinformation, we appeal to everyone to support this corrective process.

Following the official press release by the Imo State Police Command concerning the failed abduction attempt along Umuokwo Ihiagwa/Eziobodo Road on 13th May, 2026, and the subsequent deployment of tactical units including the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), we commend the swift response and renewed commitment of security agencies towards protecting lives and restoring confidence within our communities.

The incident once again highlights a reality we can no longer ignore — security challenges around the FUTO axis require proactive solutions, not only emergency responses after incidents occur.

As an organization committed to student safety and community security, Man O' War FUTO recommends that FUTO Management begin strategic discussions towards adopting modern surveillance technologies, including enterprise aerial monitoring systems such as drone-assisted security operations.

• Real-time surveillance and intelligence gathering
• Rapid monitoring of vulnerable routes and dark zones

The support and acknowledgment mean a lot to every Man O’ War cadet putting in sleepless hours to keep fellow students safe.

Yes, as students and young people, emotions can run high sometimes, and along the line there may have been misunderstandings, actions or reactions that rubbed some people the wrong way. For that, we sincerely apologize to anyone who may have felt offended or unfairly treated before now. Growth comes with reflection, and reflection brings improvement.

But one thing remains constant — when danger rises and fear enters the hearts of students, Man O’ War will never fold its arms and watch innocent students suffer.
No criminal, no oppressor, no threat should feel comfortable preying on students while we still stand.

We may wear uniforms, but beneath them are students too. We walk the same roads, enter the same lectures, and face the same fears. That is why in desperate times, we will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with our fellow students, defending peace, order and humanity with everything within our capacity.

Criticism will come. Misunderstandings will come. But service will continue regardless.

Official Statement On Recent Happenings

In light of the recent kidnapping incidents within and around the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), the Man O’ War FUTO Command addresses the student body and entire community as follows:

1. On Ethnic Stereotyping
We have carefully listened to and assessed reports surrounding these incidents. It is important to state clearly that attributing these acts to any specific ethnic group, particularly labeling them as “Fulani herdsmen,” is inaccurate and misleading. Security intelligence must be driven by facts, not assumptions. We strongly discourage stereotyping, as it distracts from real solutions.

2. On Motorcyclists (Okada Riders)
Contrary to circulating narratives, motorcyclists are not responsible for these abductions. In fact, several have fallen victim while attempting to escape with their passengers. We urge students to remain alert and conscious of their routes and timing. The FUTO SUG Directorate of Transport (DOT) is working toward sensitizing all motorcyclists to enhance safety awareness and cooperation.

3. Observed Patterns of Attack
Our assessments indicate that these incidents commonly occur during:

• Early hours of the morning
• Early hours of the evening
• Late hours of the night (with fewer obstructions, it'll be so easy for them )

Students are advised to plan movements carefully and avoid unnecessary exposure during these periods.

4. On Movement and Personal Safety
While moving in groups may offer some level of reassurance, it does not guarantee safety against armed attackers. These individuals are coordinated and prepared. We therefore advise:

• Travel light at all times
• Maintain strict awareness of time and environment
• Save and keep accessible all emergency hotlines provided in the official SUG memo

5. Reassurance to the Student Body
We understand the fear and concern these incidents have created. However, we assure all students that this challenge is being actively addressed. These perpetrators will be identified and brought to justice. Our collective vigilance is key to ensuring no further harm comes to any member of this community.

Call for Information
The Man O’ War FUTO Command remains open and committed to receiving any credible information that can assist in tracking and apprehending these criminals. Confidentiality and swift action are guaranteed.

SECURITY AWARENESS NOTICE TO ALL STUDENTS

This is to formally reassure all students residing within and around the hostel environment that adequate security measures are currently in place following recent security concerns and reports of suspicious movements around some bush paths and surrounding areas within the university environment.

At this time, there has been no official confirmation of the presence of Fulani herdsmen within the hostel environment or inside the university community. However, based on information and observations received, the Man O’ War Nigeria, FUTO Command, in collaboration with the Joint Task Force and relevant security agencies, has continued intensive surveillance, investigation, and combing operations across strategic locations and surrounding bushes in order to thoroughly verify and address every security concern.

Students are therefore advised not to panic, as the hostel environment remains under active monitoring and security observation. Security operatives are actively following trails, gathering information, and maintaining patrol operations to ensure the safety of lives and property.

However, all students are strongly encouraged to remain security conscious and cooperate with security personnel at all times.

For personal safety, students are advised to:

- Avoid isolated bush paths, especially during late hours.
- Move in groups whenever necessary at night.
- Report any suspicious movement, unfamiliar persons, or unusual activities immediately.
- Keep hostel surroundings properly lit where possible.
- Always carry valid student identification.

The safety of students remains a collective responsibility, and all necessary efforts are being made to maintain peace and order within the university community.

Students are urged to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding.
