UPDATED PANEL LINEUP | LIFE BEYOND LIMB LOSS

As we get closer to our upcoming virtual conversation, we are pleased to share an update to the panel lineup for “Life Beyond Limb Loss: A Conversation on Rehabilitation, Inclusion & Resilience.”

Joining us from Uganda is Kangume Charlotte, disability inclusion advocate and Co-founder of Amputee Self - Help Network Uganda (ASNU).

Charlotte brings a powerful lived experience perspective and a deep commitment to creating opportunities for people living with disabilities to rebuild their confidence, independence and participation in society.

Her work through ASNU reflects an important part of the conversation we want to have: life after limb loss is not only about receiving a prosthesis. It is also about having the opportunity to return to school, work, community, relationships and everyday life.

What does life really look like after limb loss?

Limb loss is often discussed in terms of surgery, prosthetics, and rehabilitation. But what happens beyond the clinical journey?

What happens to confidence? Mental and emotional wellbeing? Relationships? Work? Social participation? And what does it actually take to rebuild a fulfilling life?

On 28 August 2026, Malcolms Anatomy Foundation will bring together a lived experience and a professional perspective for “Life Beyond Limb Loss: A Conversation on Rehabilitation, Inclusion & Resilience”. This is a one-hour virtual panel discussion exploring the realities of life after limb loss.

Our conversation will feature:

Paul Nsiro Segawa - Uganda
Disability rights and inclusion advocate, rehabilitation/social-work professional and co-founder of the Amputee Self-Help Network Uganda. Paul brings lived experience and a strong commitment to supporting people affected by limb loss and disability.

Esther Friday - Nigeria
Prosthetist & Orthotist and member of Malcolms Anatomy Foundation's professional network, bringing a professional perspective on prosthetic care, rehabilitation, and patient support.

Dr. Mahlet Tamiru - Ethiopia
Medical Doctor and Medical Business Developer, who will moderate the conversation and help guide the discussion between lived experience and professional perspectives.

This is not simply a conversation about prosthetic devices.

It is a conversation about people - their experiences, their recovery, their confidence, their relationships, their communities, and their ability to thrive beyond limb loss.

We want to create a space where lived experience is heard alongside professional knowledge, and where the conversation goes beyond inspiration to explore practical realities, challenges, and possibilities.

Our very first Malcolms Anatomy Foundation Fireside Chat reminded us of one important truth:

Access to prosthetic care is about far more than prosthetic technology.

During our conversation with Amohetsoe Shale, Founder & CEO of NAVU Mobility, we explored why thousands of people across Africa still struggle to regain mobility after limb loss; even though advanced prosthetic technologies already exist.

Some of the key insights from the discussion:

Rehabilitation begins long before a prosthetic is fitted.
Quality prosthetic technology means little if people cannot access it.
Affordability, local manufacturing, repairability, and clinician capacity all matter.
Sustainable impact requires strong ecosystems; not isolated organizations.
Governments, healthcare providers, prosthetists, innovators, NGOs, researchers, and communities must work together if we want lasting change.

One statement from Amo that stayed with us was:

"Health should not be determined by someone's socioeconomic situation."

That is a principle Malcolm's Anatomy Foundation firmly believes in.

This week, we completed the first out of two internal capacity-building sessions with our Technology & Digital Systems and Communications & Content teams at Malcolms Anatomy Foundation. Together, we set up the Foundation's digital measurement infrastructure, including Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics 4, Microsoft Clarity, Google Search Console, and conversion tracking.

These tools will help us better understand how people engage with our work, evaluate the effectiveness of our awareness campaigns, and make informed decisions that strengthen our mission of improving access to prosthetic care and disability inclusion across Africa.

I'm grateful to everyone who participated in the session for their enthusiasm, thoughtful contributions, and commitment to building a strong foundation for the future. I'm excited for the next phase as we begin applying these systems to our programmes and campaigns.

PARTNERSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT

We are delighted to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Malcolms Anatomy Foundation (Nigeria) and ACTORS Rwanda Organization (ARO), Rwanda, effective 17 June 2026.
