Many girls leave home chasing better education and opportunity, only to meet harm instead.
Today, we add our voice to the outcry against child sexual abuse—and to the call for .
Ochanya Elizabeth Ogbanje (13) died on October 17, 2018 from complications linked to years of sexual abuse. Media and court records name her guardians, Andrew Ogbuja and his son Victor Ogbuja, as the alleged perpetrators. In April 2022, a Benue State High Court acquitted Andrew Ogbuja of r**e and of causing her death, while in a separate case Felicia Ochiga-Ogbuja was convicted for failing to protect Ochanya—her conviction was upheld on appeal in November 2022. Victor Ogbuja has remained at large since 2018 and has not faced trial.
We stand with survivors and advocates demanding:
- Accountability—locate and arrest Victor Ogbuja so he can face trial.
- A justice system that works for children—specialised investigation, survivor-centred prosecution, and strict enforcement of child-protection laws.
- Prevention and protection—safe schooling and guardianship systems, mandatory reporting, and swift response when abuse is suspected.
If you have credible information that could help law enforcement locate Victor Ogbuja, report it to the appropriate authorities immediately.
We will keep advocating—because every girl deserves safety, dignity, and a future.
