Nigeria MPI 2023: 63% of Nigerians are multidimensionally poor

The Nigeria Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) 2023 report has been released, and it shows that 63% of Nigerians (133 million people) are multidimensionally poor. This means that they face multiple deprivations in the areas of health, education, and living standards.

The report also found that poverty is concentrated in the North, where 65% of the poor live. The most common deprivations in Nigeria are poor sanitation, lack of access to clean cooking fuel, and inadequate housing.

This report is a reminder that we need to do more to address poverty in Nigeria. We need to invest in basic public services, create jobs and opportunities, and expand social protection programs. We also need to address the root causes of poverty, such as gender inequality and social exclusion.
