Announcement of Winners – Young Engineers Creative Essay Competition (World Engineering Day 2026)
The Young Engineers Forum of Nigeria (YEFoN) National Secretariat is pleased to announce the successful completion of the Young Engineers Creative Essay Competition, held in commemoration of World Engineering Day 2026.
The winners were officially announced during a virtual webinar organized by the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Headquarters as part of the activities marking this year’s celebration.
After a careful evaluation of submissions from young engineers across the country, with about 113 submission in two days, the following participants emerged as winners.
🥇 First Position:
Engr. Morgan Dan Mangai – Mechanical Engineer, University of Jos; Graduate Member.
Prize Award of ₦250,000, free conference registration, and one-year professional mentorship.
🥈 Second Position:
Engr. Abdullahi Hassan Bello – Electrical Engineer, Bayero University Kano; Graduate Member.
Prize Award of ₦150,000, free conference registration, and one-year professional mentorship.
🥉 Third Position:
Engr. Yusuf Adebonuola Lawal – Mechanical Engineer, University of Ibadan, Oyo; Graduate Member.
Prize Award of ₦100,000, free conference registration, and one-year professional mentorship.
While all other participants in the competition shall receive certificate of participation in recognition of their commitment to the engineering profession.
The prize awards for the competition, were generously sponsored by Engr. Usman Tijjani, FNSE, mni, Vice President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers’.
Furthermore, the Vice President offered free NSE registration to all other unregistered NSE Corporate/Graduate/Students members who participated in the competition in order to encourage their full participation in NSE activities and integration into the engineering profession.
It could be recall that request for submission of entries was sent out on the 28th February 2026, requesting for a submission of creative essay on the topic *“Exploring Sustainable Technologies and Innovative Solutions to Building Smarter Cities and a Resilient Circular Economy.”*
While announcing the results during the webinar, the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, *Engr. Ali Alimusuya Rabiu, FNSE, FAEng, MFR*, encouraged young engineers to think creatively and develop innovative solutions that will benefit the nation and humanity at large. He emphasized that the active engagement of young engineers in forward-thinking ideas is critical and assured participants that the Society will continue to position them to compete and excel among their counterparts globally.
As part of the World Engineering Day outreach activities, young engineers also visited Government Secondary School, Garki, where they delivered a career talk to students. The session highlighted the importance of engineering education, the practical role of engineering in national development, and the significant contributions engineers make toward building resilient infrastructure and sustainable cities.
These initiatives were designed to inspire young engineers, stimulate innovative thinking, and reinforce ethical and technical excellence within the engineering profession.

World Engineering Day remains a powerful reminder that engineering plays a fundamental role in economic growth, technological advancement, and sustainable national development.
