Every pangolin saved is a victory against extinction.

In 2025, the work of the Pangolin Conservation Guild Nigeria became even more urgent. Pangolins remain the most trafficked mammals in the world, and Nigeria sits at the frontline of this crisis. Yet amid this challenge, hope continues to grow - through stronger partnerships, deeper community engagement, and unwavering commitment to conservation.

In 2025, together with dedicated partners, supporters, and conservation champions, we strengthened efforts to protect pangolins, support research, empower communities, and raise national awareness about the urgent need to end wildlife trafficking.

Our 2025 Newsletter tells the story of impact - the rescues, the collaborations, the research, and the people who refuse to let pangolins disappear from Nigeria’s forests.

Protecting pangolins is not the work of one organisation alone. It is a collective mission.

We invite donors, partners, researchers, and conservation allies to stand with us as we scale up efforts to secure a safer future for pangolins and Nigeria’s biodiversity.

Together, we can turn the tide for pangolins.

Happy World Wildlife Day!🎊

Wildlife is not decoration. It is not tourism branding. It is not background scenery.

Wildlife is the living infrastructure of our community.

It is the forest that protects our water before it reaches our taps.
It is the pollinators that secure our food before it reaches our markets.
It is the predators that balance ecosystems before imbalance becomes disease, crop failure, or economic loss.

When wildlife disappears, the consequences are not sentimental - they are structural. We lose water security. We lose soil fertility. We lose climate stability. We lose income streams. We lose identity.

Wildlife is natural capital - it appreciates when protected and collapses when exploited recklessly.

A community that destroys its wildlife is not modern; it is liquidating its own future.

If we protect wildlife, we protect ourselves.
If we undermine wildlife, we undermine our children’s inheritance.

Wildlife is not separate from our community.
It is the quiet system keeping our community alive.

🌍🔥 *World Pangolin Day 2026 – Activity Two!*

Three cities. Three days. One weekend. One powerful message - SAVE PANGOLINS!

We delivered pangolin and wildlife conservation education at
*Asaba Leisure Park Zoo (Delta State) *Yenagoa Park Zoo (Bayelsa State)
*Enugu Park Zoo (Enugu State)

We engaged park visitors and installed permanent pangolin awareness plaques - creating lasting impact in celebration of World Pangolin Day!

The awareness is spreading. The movement is growing.

🌍✨ Hurrah!!! World Pangolin Day has started for us! ✨🌍

We kicked off with a powerful outreach at the University of Ibadan Staff School and Baptist Primary School, teaching pupils why pangolins - the world’s most trafficked mammal - must be protected.

Through lively, interactive sessions, the children learned about biodiversity, wildlife conservation, the dangers of wildlife crime, and their role as young conservation champions. The energy was inspiring! The pupils were bright and curious learners!

With support from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) UNODC - United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, we are catching them young for conservation. By investing in young minds today, we are shaping a future generation that understands, values, and actively protects wildlife.

Protect pangolins. Protect our planet. 💚🌍

🌿🚌 PCGN Brings Conservation to Life with an Inspiring Wildlife Excursion! ✨

The Pangolin Conservation Guild Nigeria (PCGN) has established Wildlife Conservation Clubs in over 20 schools across Ibadan, creating vibrant platforms for environmental learning and action. Since launching these clubs, we have trained teachers, delivered interactive and engaging programmes for students, and hosted impactful events focused on pangolin conservation and biodiversity protection. Together, these efforts are shaping a new generation of environmentally conscious young people.

To deepen students’ understanding of wildlife beyond the classroom, PCGN organised an educational excursion to the Zoological Garden. This experience allowed students to see, learn about, and connect with wildlife firsthand, reinforcing key lessons on conservation, habitat protection, and coexistence with nature.

The excursion was eye-opening, inspiring, and transformative, turning theory into real-world understanding and igniting curiosity, empathy, and responsibility for the natural world. 🌍🐾

At PCGN, we believe that early exposure to nature is key to building lifelong conservation champions - and this excursion was a powerful step in that journey.

🌍✨ Empowering Young Climate Champions through Collective Action!

Last year, our team embarked on an ambitious and deeply collaborative Climate Smart Education Project in Ibadan, designed to nurture the next generation of environmentally conscious leaders. The journey began with a robust inception meeting, bringing together teachers, students, school administrators, and key stakeholders to align visions and strengthen the link between climate action, environmental sustainability, and biodiversity conservation.

Recognising the pivotal role of educators, we conducted intensive capacity-building sessions to equip teachers as Climate Smart facilitators. This was supported by the development of a Climate Smart Training Manual, carefully designed to guide both teachers and students through practical, locally relevant climate solutions. 📘🌱

Four schools - one private, one public, and two special-needs schools - were thoughtfully selected to ensure inclusivity and broad impact. A major milestone of the project was the official launch of Climate Smart Clubs in each school, creating safe, creative spaces for sustained climate learning and action.

Students enthusiastically engaged in hands-on, experiential learning, exploring innovative ways of turning waste into wealth. Through recycling and upcycling activities, they transformed everyday materials into useful products, while learning how responsible waste management reduces pollution, protects natural habitats, and supports healthier ecosystems. 💚♻️
These practical sessions empowered students to see how small, everyday actions can collectively safeguard the environment and wildlife. 🐾

At PCGN, we firmly believe that investing in climate-smart, eco-conscious youth today is essential for securing a sustainable future for people, nature, and wildlife. 🌳🐘

This project stands as a powerful example of what is possible when communities, schools, and stakeholders work together for lasting environmental impact.

My Experience at Pangolin Conservation Guild Nigeria (PCGN)

As a Zoology student of the University of Ibadan, I had the privilege of undertaking my SIWES training at the Pangolin Conservation Guild Nigeria (PCGN) — a leading wildlife conservation network led by Prof. Olajumoke Morenikeji, committed to protecting pangolins through research, advocacy, and strategic partnerships. My passion for animals, especially pangolins, inspired me to join PCGN, where I gained firsthand exposure to the realities of wildlife conservation and the urgent need to safeguard these endangered species.

During my training, I participated in PCGN’s online awareness campaigns, created educational materials, and delivered presentations on pangolin conservation. I also visited the Clinical Pathology and Histology Laboratories of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Ibadan, where I learned diagnostic and tissue preparation techniques used in wildlife research. The experience broadened my understanding of conservation science, sharpened my research and laboratory skills, and deepened my commitment to wildlife protection.

Thank you, PCGN, for shaping my professional journey.

Juwon Adesida.
