Birth Story of Beehyve Initiative
Sometimes you give a task your best shot and even go the extra mile never knowing where it will all end up. A small step or action grows to become bigger than you imagined and that is how the story of Beehyve Initiative unfolded.
It all began with an idea which was simply about promoting maternal and child health on radio. Abiye - https://web.facebook.com/groups/384351004917850/?ref=group_header What was meant to have been just a public awareness information in bites started out as a 5minutes radio drama soap and it grew to become a 30minutes program that reached out to almost all the 33Local government Primary health care centers in Oyo state. Real time antenatal and immunization sessions were recorded and broadcast on radio to better educate people at the grassroots and encourage mothers and families to register for antenatal and go for post natal care after delivery.
This task expanded as the team handling the maternal and child health media education began to see that we needed to do more than just educate; we found ourselves having to do something about real cases of vulnerable pregnant mothers, girls and children. In the five year that Abiye was broadcast the team intervened and took on advocacy role for various cases : Mary a house help who was impregnated by her boss and was thrown out
