Week after week, farmers in the Association of Fish Farmers in Kwara State (AFFAK), under the FISH4ACP Catfish Cluster Upgrading Programme, are learning, practicing, and building better aquaculture systems; one session at a time.

In this session, farmers gained insights into the importance of record keeping; not as a one-off task, but as a continuous part of farm management. They are learning to consistently document their farm activities, from feeding and input costs to fish growth and daily observations.

Through this ongoing process, farmers are building the skills to manage their farms more efficiently and improve productivity.

Because when records are kept consistently today, they lead to better results tomorrow.

For many persons living with disabilities, the biggest challenge is not their condition, but how society treats them. Some are ignored, discriminated against, denied opportunities, or made to feel like they do not belong.

This was the reason JDPC Ibadan took its awareness rally to the streets of Ibadan, from Iwo Road Bus Terminal 1 & 2 to Alakia to speak directly to the public about the rights, inclusion, and proper care of persons with disabilities.

The message was simple and clear: persons with disabilities are human beings like every one of us. They deserve respect, love, care, equal opportunities, and a place in society without discrimination.

What made the rally impactful was the reaction from the people on the streets. Drivers slowed down to listen, traders paid attention, commuters asked questions, and many people openly supported the campaign. Some collected awareness stickers and immediately placed them on their vehicles and tricycles, helping to carry the message across different parts of the city.

Beyond the walk itself, the rally started conversations. People became more aware of the rights of persons with disabilities and why inclusion matters. It also showed that when awareness is taken directly to the people, attitudes can begin to change.

For JDPC, this was more than a rally. It was a reminder to society that persons with disabilities should never be abandoned, neglected, or treated differently because of their condition. They have dreams, talents, and value, and they deserve to be seen, heard, and included.

And as those stickers continue to move around Ibadan on vehicles and tricycles, the message continues to move with them.

AK(pseudonym) came to Ibadan from Plateau in search of a better life.

Instead, he spent 9 months behind bars after being accused of theft while working at a house under renovation.

On May 11, 2026, the court struck out the case against him. But AK was not brought to court that day because he could not be transported alone, leaving his freedom hanging in uncertainty even after the case had been dismissed.

That same day, JDPC stepped in.

What could have become another forgotten story ended differently. Today, AK is free.

His story reminds us that sometimes, justice is not just about court judgments. It is about people willing to act, speak up, and ensure that freedom is truly restored.

One intervention. One life changed.

A mother recently walked into our office with her two children, aged 4 and 5, both diagnosed with cerebral palsy.

Beyond the diagnosis is a daily reality that is difficult to sustain . physiotherapy, medical consultations, medications, and the urgent need for inclusive education. These are not optional; they are essential for the children’s development and quality of life.

However, the financial burden has become overwhelming.

She has done everything within her capacity, but she can no longer meet these needs alone. Without immediate support, the children risk missing critical therapy sessions and care that could significantly improve their condition.

This is a direct call for support.

Your contribution will go towards:

- Physiotherapy and medical care
- Essential medications
- Access to education and supportive learning

Every support matters and goes a long way in giving these children a fair chance at life.

If you are in a position to help, please do.

Together, we can ensure that lack of resources does not define their future.

In many communities across Egbeda and Akinyele LGAs, Community Birth Attendants (CBAs) are the first point of care for pregnant women. Yet when complications arise that they cannot manage, many do not refer those women to Primary Health Care facilities and lives are put at risk.

The reason is not indifference. It is a broken relationship between CBAs and the formal health system, built over years of distance, distrust, and little to no communication.

To address this, JDPC Ibadan convened dialogue meetings between CBAs and Officers-in-Charge (OICs) of PHC facilities in both LGAs.

Going forward, CBAs and OICs will hold regular meetings, maintain open lines of communication, and work toward a clear referral culture where a CBA who identifies a case beyond her capacity sends that woman to a PHC facility promptly, not as a last resort.

When that happens, fewer pregnant women will fall through the gap between community care and the health system. And fewer families will grieve a loss that was preventable.

That is the change JDPC Ibadan is working toward, one LGA at a time.

Change doesn’t happen by chance.

It happens when voices refuse to be ignored.
For over two decades, JDPC Ibadan has stood where it matters most, with the people, in the struggle, and on the side of justice.

We don’t just talk about change.

We push it. We demand it. We make it happen.
Because when the people speak, real change must follow.

Record keeping is fundamental to the practice of sustainable aquaculture because it:
Aids farmers planning. Is useful in stocking and sorting. Helps to track feed and feed conversion. Helps to track farm expenses.

And to avoid guesswork on your farm, keep good records.

Transforming gender norms starts at the community level.

Working closely with cassava-based groups across three local government areas in Oyo State, JDPC Ibadan is facilitating community engagement and dialogue to drive locally led transformation through IITA's Gender Transformative Intervention, a gender-based research funded by Consortium of International Agricultural Research Centers (CGIAR).

Through targeted strategies, this intervention engages local stakeholders, farmer groups, and community members to address the restrictions limiting women’s participation and decision-making across three norms:

• Women’s ownership of land.
• Women’s ability to buy and sell productive assets.
• Women’s leadership in cassava-based and related groups.

Through a Gender Transformative Approach (GTA), these communities are supported to question gender restrictive norms and create more inclusive pathways for women’s agency and participation.
