No one actor can close Nigeria’s girls’ education financing gap alone. It takes governments, development partners, civil society, and communities — coordinated, committed, and ready to move faster.
At a High-Level Policy Dialogue hosted by in Abuja, that group came together. Federal and state policymakers named actionable next steps. Partners aligned around a shared message: Gender-Responsive Education Planning and Budgeting is one of the most effective tools to ensure every naira spent on education reaches the girls that need it most.
The message from the room was clear: we have the strategies. What we must now secure is the financing and implementation that translates them into results.

At the Black Girl’s Dream Initiative, through our Malala Fund project, EduTracka, we are committed to close the education financing gap.

We are still reeling from the feedback from our fellows.

The Oyo Policy & Advocacy Lab was a journey defined by growth, collaboration, and impactful experiences for our fellows. Its success is a testament to their dedication, curiosity, and brilliance throughout the programme.

We wish our fellows the best as they take another steps towards their goals.

We asked our fellows their Point of View of the fellowship. These are what they have to say. ❤️

As we reflect on the implementation of the fellowship, our fellows are also looking back on their experiences during the fellowship. Each phase of the fellowship brought its own demands and rewards, sharpening their capacity to lead, advocate, and engage meaningfully in civic spaces across Oyo State.

Their feedback is a signal to us keep the fire burning.

What other woman is worthy of our praise? Olufunmilayo Ransome Kuti was a revolutionary figure whose bravery unlocked opportunities for women and girls. In a world where women were told to take back seat, Okufunmilayo took the wheel and steered many women into freedom.

Today, we remember her. Olufunmilayo Ransome-Kuti

Our fourth woman for our Nigeria Women in History series is Hajia Gambo Sawaba, a woman whose bravery and dedication paved way for the rights of woman.

A woman who was married at thirteen, jailed sixteen times, flogged, humiliated, and stripped of nearly everything a system could strip from a person, but still lived a life of impact.

Woman like Gambo Sawaba.

Have you heard about the remarkable feat of a Nigerian Woman named Olaniwun Àdùnní Oluwole.
Olaniwun Àdùnní Oluwole was the first woman ever to form a political party. A selfless activist and organizer who believed that no country can progress unless women are on the decision making table.

We remember Her, Olaniwun Àdùnní Oluwole - Politician | Human/Woman Right Activist

Our second Nigeria Women in History is no other than Flora Nwapa - Nigeria’s first female novelist. Africa’s first female publisher.
We celebrate the visionary and resilient spirit of this woman who carved the way for millions of women.

As we wind down on the international women’s month, we want to highlight the stories of our 5 women highlighted for the IWD Nigeria Women in History 2026.

Our first woman is Chief Janet Mokelu, Activist. Legislator. Chief.

Chief Mokelu became one of Nigeria’s first female lawmakers and when she got into the Eastern House of Assembly, she did not spend her time being grateful for the seat. She pushed for equal pay for women and championed women’s right to vote and to lead, not as an idea for the future, not as a suggestion for a committee to examine, but as legislation.
