From Inception to Abuja: Celebrating Leadership, Compliance, and Civic Impact!

​At the Pan African Purpose-Driven Women Initiative (PAPDWI), we believe that leading with purpose also means leading with structure, excellence, and compliance!

​On Monday, July 13, 2026, our Executive Director, Oluwatoyin Olukanni-Ogedengbe, was live at the prestigious Ladi Kwali Hall, Abuja Continental Hotel, for the historic close-out and launch of the End-of-Project Report and the 2025 State Ranking Dashboard by Global Rights and the European Union!

​This event marked the climax of a transformational three-year journey to strengthen the CSO regulatory environment in Nigeria. For PAPDWI, this journey has been close to our hearts. Our Executive Director had the distinct privilege of serving on the National Steering Committee for the Community of Practice (CoP) on Civic Space Strengthening, and as a Member of the 4-man Oyo State Steering Committee.
​Looking back, we are incredibly proud of the active roles and milestones achieved through this project:

Continuous Learning: Participating from the inception meeting through various high-level training sessions from Uyo to Abuja to Port harcourt to Abeokuta to Ibadan.

Local Leadership & Capacity Building:
Part of the committee that mobilised CSOs for the two sessions of training conducted in two different batches at two different times for about 60 CSOs in Oyo State.

Mobilised over 50 CSOs for the critical Anti-Money Laundering/ Counter Terrorism (AML/CFT) training right here in Ibadan at the EFCC Office.

Amplifying Voices: Representing the region as a Panelist at the South West Regional Conference in Ibadan, addressing scaling policy to action:strenthening the regulatory environment for sustainable CSO operations in south west, Nigeria( overcoming hurdles and fostering collaboration)

​We want to express our immense gratitude to the incredible facilitators and visionaries who made this project a masterclass in development—most notably Baiyewu Rights (Executive Director, Global Rights), Prof. Chidi Odinkalu (Chairman of the Governing Board), Program Managers Edosa Oviawe and Noya Sedi,Tope Erinomo Non-Profit Organization (NPO) Desk Officer for the Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering (SCUML) under the EFCC,Anas Abdullahi, core technical training on tax laws and exemptions for Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs),Mr. Mark Iria Ikheloa: Representative and compliance expert from the Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering (SCUML) under the EFCC; co-facilitated the practical sessions on AML and countering the financing of terrorism, Prof. Adekunle Adedeji, SAN who took sessions onTax Act, CAMA, and general Anti-Money Laundering frameworks and others.

​As Prof. Chidi Odinkalu powerfully shared at the close-out: "Compliance is not a project; compliance is a culture."
At PAPDWI, we are taking this charge forward, ensuring our structures remain resilient, transparent, and ready to drive sustainable development.

FROM EVIDENCE TO ACTION: Protecting and Restoring Dignity to Survivors

​At the Pan African Purpose-Driven Women Initiative (PAPDWI), we believe that true empowerment begins with restoring dignity, healing trauma, and creating safe spaces for the vulnerable.
​On Saturday, July 11, 2026, our Executive Director, Oluwatoyin Olukanni-Ogedengbe Mrs. Oluwatoyin Ogedengbe, joined key stakeholders at the Government-University Multi-Stakeholder Policy Dialogue held at the IITA Conference Centre, Ibadan.
​The focus? "Stronger Futures: Survivor-Centered Reintegration and Cross-Border Policy Dialogues"—a critical initiative aimed at strengthening support systems for returnee migrants and victims of human trafficking in Oyo State.

​Why This Dialogue Matters to Our Mission
​The dialogue, convened by Dr. Sarah Adeyinka (Senior Lecturer, University of Amsterdam) and a dedicated team of researchers from the Netherlands, brought together the perfect mix of heart, policy, and action:
​Survivor-Led & Needs-Based Support: The most powerful moment of the day came from returned irregular migrants who courageously shared their painful journeys through exploitation, detention, and trauma in countries like Libya. Their voices reminded everyone that policies must be shaped by real lived experiences, not assumptions.

​Government Action: ACG Barr. Segun Adegoke (Rtd.), Special Adviser to the Oyo State Governor on Migration and Homeland Security, shared Oyo State’s commitment to turning academic research into practical, sustainable welfare and reintegration policies.

​A United Front: Key contributions were made by Mr. Kayode A. Alfred (State Commander, NAPTIP Oyo State Command) and passionate civil society leaders on the Oyo State Reintegration Committee.
​
PAPDWI’s Commitment to the Cause
​As a member of the Oyo State Reintegration Committee, our Executive Director, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Ogedengbe, actively contributed to shaping policy recommendations that focus on economic security, mental wellness, and seamless reintegration for survivors.
​We cannot talk about the development of women and youth without tackling the realities of irregular migration, trauma, and human trafficking. PAPDWI remains committed to working hand-in-hand with government, academia, law enforcement, and fellow civil society organizations to build safer, stronger futures for all.
​Let us continue to choose collaboration over isolation, and action over assumptions.

Transformative learning for greater impact!

​Our Executive Director, Oluwatoyin Olukanni-Ogedengbe recently returned from a highly enlightening and motivational 3-day training in Lagos as part of the Civic Space Resource Hub (CSR-Hub) Nigeria Cohort IV.
​Organized by the West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) from June 15-17, the training centered on Pillar 1: Civic Space Protection & Regulatory Compliance.

​Throughout the intensive sessions, our ED engaged with vital topics crucial for the future of civil society organizations, including Civic Space Freedoms & Digital Dimensions, Advanced Regulatory Compliance, and Data Protection & Governance.
​What this means for PAPDWI:
​Stronger Governance: We are bringing back advanced insights to fortify our regulatory foundations, ensuring PAPDWI remains a gold standard for compliance and operational integrity.

​Enhanced Protection: Learning to navigate the digital and physical dimensions of civic space allows us to advocate for our community safely and more effectively.

​Amplified Networks: Connecting with fellow changemakers from across the country has opened up exciting doors for future collaborations and shared learning.

On this Children's Day, Let's Demand Inclusion that Means SAFE SCHOOLS!

​This Children's Day, as we reflect on the theme "Future Now: Promoting Inclusion for Every Nigerian Child," PAPDWI (Pan African Purpose Driven Women Initiative) stands with a heavy heart.

​True inclusion means EVERY child has access to quality education. True inclusion means EVERY child is SAFE from violence.
​Yet, we stand here 12 days after the shocking abduction of innocent children from a school in Oyo State.
And this is not the first time in our nation.
Children as young as two! Their families are going through an unimaginable hell. And the unspeakable cruelty of the recent video showing the murder of their teacher... it's a stab in the heart of our very humanity.
​We CANNOT have "Inclusion" while our children are living in fear and being taken hostage from their places of learning.
​This Children's Day, let's make it a day of ACTION.

​We demand:
​Government: DO YOUR JOB. Ensure the safe and immediate rescue of ALL abducted school children. Protect our schools!

​Justice: The perpetrators must be found and held accountable. This cannot continue.

​Unity: Let us come together as a people. A nation that cannot protect its children has no future.

​To the families: We stand with you in this agonizing time. We feel your pain. We will not be silent.
​We will NOT be silent!

Silence is complicity. Pray for the safe return of these children. Pressure the government for ACTION. No child is safe until every child is safe.

Our hearts are heavy. 💔

As we approach National Children’s Day on May 27, Oyo State is in deep mourning following the heartbreaking abduction of over 40 school children and teachers from two of our communities just a week ago.
​Schools should be sanctuaries of hope, not places of fear. This tragedy shows us that protecting our children requires an urgent, united shield from every sector of society.

​At PAPDWI, we believe that child protection is a continuous chain. It spans from keeping children safe in their classrooms to providing specialized, structured care for vulnerable children in our shelters—where right now, too many orphans, rescued street connected children, and children in conflict with the law are overcrowded and housed together.
​Our Executive Director, Oluwatoyin Olukanni-Ogedengbe, former Oyo State CPN Coordinator), was privileged to co-create the Guidelines for the Alternative Care of Children in Oyo State with the government and SOS Children's Villages, which was officially launched on July 16, 2025.

​But a blueprint must become a reality to save lives. Ahead of Children's Day, we are calling for a collective, multi-stakeholder Call to Action:
​Government & Security Agencies: We demand the urgent rescue of our abducted children and teachers, and the immediate enforcement of the Safe Schools Initiative. We also call for the full, operationalized implementation of the Alternative Care Guidelines in our shelters.

Community & Faith Leaders: Let us awaken our community watch systems. We must look out for one another, report suspicious activities, and ensure our neighborhoods are hostile environments for criminals.

Parents & Citizens: Let us stay vigilant, security-conscious, and actively engage with school authorities to ensure safety protocols are strictly followed.

Other State Governments: Take a cue from Oyo State! Look at your own peculiar state challenges and earnestly design your own Safe School and Alternative Care frameworks before disaster strikes.
​We cannot celebrate while our children are unsafe. Let us turn our grief into a powerful force for systemic change. 🇳🇬

From Planning to Action!

​Earlier this year, PAPDWI stood as a proud non-state actor representative at the 3-day workshop organized by the Oyo State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, in partnership with UNICEF, to help draft the Oyo State Open Government Partnership (OGP) Action Plan.

attended the critical Validation Phase at the Ibadan Business School!

​The Global OGP framework is a movement transforming how citizens and governments interact. By validating this Action Plan, Oyo State is stepping boldly into a future anchored on four vital pillars:

🟢 The Use of Technology

​At PAPDWI, we believe that empowering women and driving purpose-filled societal growth requires transparent, inclusive governance. When citizens have a voice and data is open, communities thrive.
