A Clarion Call to Save GDSS Gwandu: Our School, Our Responsibility
Yesterday, Tuesday, 17th June 2025, the Gwandu Concerned Citizens Forum (GCCF) paid a courtesy and fact-finding visit to Government Day Secondary School (GDSS), Gwandu. What we encountered was deeply alarming, a school in distress, urgently in need of help, and a sobering reflection of the state of public education in our community.
GDSS Gwandu, once a center of learning and pride, is now struggling to function amid increasingly harsh realities. The environment we witnessed is no longer conducive to meaningful learning and development.
During our visit, the principal, Malam Abubakar Shehu, received us warmly and shared the pressing challenges the school is grappling with, including:
🔹 Inadequate Classroom Furniture
🔹 Dilapidated and Vandalized Infrastructure
🔹 Lack of Security and Perimeter Fencing
🔹 Inconsistent Water Supply Due to Power Challenges
These conditions are not only demoralizing for students and teachers alike, but they also threaten the very future of education in our town. If nothing is done urgently, we risk losing an entire generation to neglect.
Rather than dwell on the causes, we now make a heartfelt call for immediate and united intervention. We urge the same government institutions, political leaders, and stakeholders, alongside the wider community, to rise and join hands with us in restoring this critical institution.

✅ Gwandu Local Government Authority
✅ Kebbi State Government and Ministry of Education
✅ Elected Representatives at All Levels
✅ Traditional and Religious Leaders
✅ Alumni of GDSS Gwandu
✅ Civil Society Organisations and Development Partners
✅ Concerned Citizens, Both at Home and in the Diaspora
The time to act is now. GDSS Gwandu must not be left to fall into total ruin. Let us rally together, bringing our ideas, resources, and collective will, to transform this school into a place of l
