GOMBE STATE UNIVERSITY HAS INCREASED SCHOOL FEES FOR BOTH INDIGENES AND NON- INDIGENES.

May God open doors for parents to cope with the situation. But seriously isn't going to be easy. If found to be official, the truth is Nan gaba kaɗan makaranta sai dai ɗan talaka yaga anayi.

Learn! Unlearn! Relearn!

I hope you remember this courgette journey I shared just two months ago from planting to harvesting in under 45 days. What started as a seed to a full box of success.

Some of you were left with questions… Don’t worry, vegetable farmers, grab a pen and notebook.
We are counting hours. A brand new project is loading!

Time to unlearn what you thought you knew and learn afresh.

Farming is changing. Are you ready?

I don't do farming because I lack options. I farm because it’s who I am.

Those who know me well know I’m a qualified electrical engineer. I’ve wired and powered up hundreds of homes in the city, but deep down, I was always a farmer by default. I might not be exactly where I want to be yet, but trust me, I’m on the right path.

I love and respect the soil.
I love playing with water and soil and turning that into income. That’s my joy. That’s my purpose. Farming is not a backup plan, it’s a choice backed with passion, faith, and strategy.

Yes, farming has its challenges. But it’s worth it.
One thing I’ll tell you: Never go into farming because you have nothing else to do. You’ll get frustrated and quit. Farming needs passion. It needs vision. It needs strategy.

Last year, many people jumped into bulb onion farming because we made good money in April. The market looked sweet and the "onion Titanic" was full. But come December, it sank. I thank God I had diversified into maize and courgettes, that was my boat. And my boat didn’t sink.

Lesson? You don’t need to board the Titanic to reach your destination. Sometimes a small boat with the right direction and balance will take you further.

Farming isn’t luck. Farming is planning!

Many people have been asking me for guidance on how to start something and stop relying solely on salaries. Most times, I don’t recommend specific businesses because everyone has their own luck, and what works for me may not work for others.

However, one business I can confidently advise you to invest in without fear of losses is banana farming.

You can plant about 225 banana plants using a 2m × 2m spacing on a 30m × 30m plot, which is scientifically ideal as it balances plant population and growth conditions. If you already have the land and a reliable water source, you can establish the plantation with less than one million naira.

This ₦1 million is not a one-time expense; it will be spent gradually on labor, land preparation, organic fertilizer, and pest and disease control. A significant portion of these costs can be covered using part of your monthly salary.

The major investment is in securing the land and a water source, which can be efficiently managed with a borehole that has a good yield. With proper management—adequate water supply, regular application of cow dung, and effective weeding—this investment can generate at least ₦5 million in annual revenue.

This is more than the salary of a senior lecturer in a university or a high-grade level director in the civil service. As Dr. Ibrahim Dooba rightly pointed out yesterday, banana farming has almost zero risk, provided it is managed properly.

If you are in Kano and interested in this business, we can guide you appropriately.
