BREAKING THE CHAINS OF SERVITUDE.

In many communities, sending a child away to work in another household has existed for generations. Over time, it has become so familiar that exploitation can sometimes be mistaken for tradition, opportunity, or simply “the way things are done.”

But familiarity does not make it right.

A child carrying the weight of household responsibilities, denied education, exposed to abuse, or deprived of the freedom to simply be a child is not experiencing a normal childhood.

This is why we took the conversation to the streets of Ojo and Isolo LGA to raise awareness, challenge harmful beliefs, and remind communities that childhood should never be exchanged for servitude.

Through our community awareness on “Breaking the Chains of Servitude,” we are bringing the truth closer to the people: what has existed for generations does not have to continue for generations.

Every child deserves a childhood.

For six years, a young girl lived separated from her family, carrying experiences no child should have to endure. When she finally found the courage to speak, our team stepped in. With the support of child protection stakeholders, we began the search for the family she could barely remember.

And then, we found them.

Her story reminds us why child protection matters.

Every child deserves safety.
Every child deserves family.
Every child deserves a childhood.

3HF hosted a Child Rights and Safeguarding Workshop for key stakeholders in Lagos State as part of the Addressing Exploitative Child Domestic Work project. The workshop brought together government representatives, security agencies, community leaders, religious leaders, civil society organizations, and partners to engage in meaningful conversations on strengthening child protection systems.

The discussions focused on the realities of exploitative child domestic work, the factors that make children vulnerable to abuse, and the importance of ensuring that rescued children are not returned to environments where the risks of exploitation remain. Stakeholders explored the need for stronger prevention strategies, effective referral pathways, survivor-centered support, and coordinated action among all actors responsible for safeguarding children.

The workshop also highlighted the importance of ensuring that children are protected in ways that are appropriate to their age, rights, and development, while promoting accountability for individuals who subject children to abuse, neglect, or exploitation.

Through shared experiences and collaborative discussions, stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to working together toward a future where every child is safe, protected, and able to thrive.

The workshop was implemented with the support of the under the Addressing Exploitative Child Domestic Work project.

Sometime last week, our Team Lead represented 3HF at the World Day Against Trafficking programme hosted by the Devatop Center for Africa Development

In one of the sessions, he shared insights on the importance of case management in supporting survivors of trafficking and exploitation. He spoke about the need for a survivor-centred approach that ensures every individual receives the care, protection, and support they need—from identification and risk assessment to referrals, psychosocial support, reintegration, and long-term follow-up.

Effective case management goes beyond responding to immediate needs. It is about restoring dignity, empowering survivors, and connecting them with the right services to rebuild their lives.

At 3HF, we remain committed to strengthening systems that protect vulnerable individuals and collaborating with partners to create lasting solutions in the fight against human trafficking.

The other day, on air at WFM 91.7 during a session funded by , a key question was raised about why organizations must continue to drive awareness and advocacy around social issues.

Awareness is not a one-time effort, it is a continuous responsibility that drives real and lasting change.

Continuous advocacy helps to challenge harmful norms, correct misconceptions, and promote protection, empowerment, and social development across communities.

Organizations working in humanitarian and social development spaces play a critical role in ensuring that vulnerable groups are not overlooked. Through consistent engagement and sensitization, awareness becomes more than information, it becomes a tool for transformation.

Until every child, and vulnerable individual is protected and empowered, advocacy and awareness creation remain essential.

Because change only happens when awareness is sustained
