๐Ÿ“ฐ 2025 ANNUAL YOUTH CONGRESS: INDEED A REMARKABLE EXPERIENCE

Yesterday, it was indeed a remarkable experience for us at the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Epe Branch, to successfully host the 2025 Annual Youth Congress in grand style. The event brought together youths, leaders, policymakers, development partners, and stakeholders for an impactful engagement focused on youth empowerment, self-development, and sustainable economic growth in Epe Division. We are deeply grateful to all our distinguished invited guests, partners, and participants who set aside their busy schedules to attend and support this transformative event.

This yearโ€™s Congress has positively impacted and inspired participants, particularly in the areas of self-empowerment, skill acquisition, entrepreneurial development, and economic consciousness. Anchored on the theme, โ€œBuilding Bridges for Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Success: Harnessing Innovation and Local Opportunities,โ€ the Congress provided a timely, relevant, and practical platform for youths to engage in critical discussions, explore innovative ideas, and gain direction on creating sustainable livelihoods in an evolving socio-economic landscape.

A major highlight of the Congress was the keynote presentation delivered by Dr. Olubunmi Kole Dawodu, Deputy Director of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), Lagos State. She delivered an insightful and highly impactful session that did exceptional justice to the Congress theme, providing practical guidance, real-life examples, and exposing participants to available employment and entrepreneurial opportunities. Her presentation equipped our youths with the knowledge, tools, and motivation necessary to pursue productive and sustainable economic pathways.

The success of the Congress was further reinforced by the presence and active support of respected leaders and dignitaries, whose participation added significant value and elevated the programme. Their attendance demonstrated strong institutional and community backing for youth-focused initiatives in Epe Division, highlighting the shared responsibility of all stakeholders in shaping the future of young people. Among those who honoured us with their presence were Hon. Tobun Abiodun, LAHA, Epe I; Hon. Wale Raji (MHR), ably represented by Mr. Kaka Babatunde (SLA); Hon. Hammed Seriki, Commissioner II, LGSC; Hon. Wasiu Ayeola Olaomopo, Director, Lekki Worldwide (Chairman of the Occasion); Alhaja Adenike Tobun, Mother of the Day; Princess Surah Olayemi Animashaun, Executive Chairman, Epe Local Government and Grand Matron of the Council; Mrs. Yusuf M. C., TG/PS, Education District VI; Engr. Adigun Ibrahim, Chairman, NYCN Lagos State; and Asoro Abubakar, Vice Chairman, NYCN Lagos East.

In addition to the keynote address, the Congress featured dynamic panel sessions that exposed our youths to a wide array of business and entrepreneurial opportunities. These sessions encouraged interactive dialogue, practical learning, and engagement with experts, equipping participants with knowledge and strategies to navigate the challenges of employment and business development. The presence of NYCN Lagos State Executives, who accompanied the State Chairman, further strengthened the programme, demonstrating solidarity, mentorship, and commitment to youth development across the state.

We also acknowledge the invaluable contribution of media personnel and media crews whose professional coverage amplified the reach and visibility of the Congress, ensuring that the key messages, insights, and opportunities shared during the event reached a wider audience. Our appreciation extends to Hypo Company for their partnership, product support, and distribution of products during the Congress, which contributed significantly to the success of the programme.

Special commendation goes to our dedicated executives, leaders, Youth Congress Planning Committee, and the entire membership of NYCN Epe for their unwavering commitment, teamwork, and tireless efforts in planning and executing the Congress. Their collaboration and professionalism were central to delivering a seamless, impactful, and memorable event.

We celebrate all participants and beneficiaries of our SKILL FOR ALL Initiative, emphasizing that the Congress is not an end, but the beginning of sustained follow-up, mentorship, and empowerment efforts. These initiatives are designed to ensure that youths in Epe Division are self-reliant, innovative, and economically independent, fostering a generation of skilled, confident, and empowered young people ready to contribute meaningfully to society.

Finally, we express our heartfelt appreciation to all individuals and organizations whose names could not be mentioned individually, recognizing their contributions, support, and commitment to the success of the 2025 Annual Youth Congress. The programme reaffirmed our Councilโ€™s dedication to building a vibrant, empowered, and economically conscious youth population in Epe Division.

Thank you all for coming, standing with us, and believing in our vision of youth empowerment. Your participation and support are invaluable. God bless you all.

I joined my fellow Coordinators to attend the NYCN Lagos Exchange Retreat held at Mokland, Abeokuta, Ogun State. The retreat provided a strategic platform for us to discuss and address some of the key challenges affecting the Youth Council at the Local Government level.

Some of the major issues highlighted include:

Proper packaging and branding of our programs

Strengthening networking and collaboration

Effective stakeholder engagement

Increasing youth participation at all levels

It was a highly productive engagement focused on finding lasting and progressive solutions that will strengthen our structures, enhance youth involvement, and foster greater unity across all NYCN in Lagos State.

I sincerely commend the NYCN Lagos State leadership, ably led by Engr. Adigun Ibrahim, for organizing and facilitating this impactful retreat.

Together, we remain committed to building a more functional, vibrant, and impactful Youth Council.

๐Ÿ“ฐ NYCN EPE LOCAL BRANCH JOINS THE GLOBAL MOVEMENT TO COMMEMORATE THE INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY 2025

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Epe Local Branch, joined the global community to commemorate the 2025 International Youth Day with a two-day impactful program. The celebration, held on Saturday, August 23, and Sunday, August 24, 2025, aimed to inspire, engage, and empower young people in the Epe Division through dialogue and sports activities.

Guided by the 2025 global theme, โ€œLocal Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond", the program brought together youth leaders, representatives, stakeholders, and community members to recognize the vital role young people play in driving sustainable change.

The first day featured an International Youth Day Symposium, which served as a platform for dialogue and reflection on youth contributions to sustainable development. Keynote speaker Cmdr. Giwa Moshood Olasupo, Principal Environmental Officer at LASUTH, Ikeja, and a Youth Advocate, shared valuable insights on the importance of grassroots involvement in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Discussions centered on equipping youth with relevant skills, fostering innovation, and strengthening their role in governance and community development. The symposium also provided a rich opportunity for networking, knowledge sharing, and celebrating the resilience of young people. It underscored the commitment of the NYCN Epe Branch to create safe spaces for youths to express their ideas, harness their talents, and contribute meaningfully to societal growth.

The second day of the program was dedicated to sports and recreational activities, aimed at fostering unity, teamwork, and healthy engagement among young people. The day commenced with excitement as the NYCN Epe Local Branch hosted the PSOA Epe Novelty Match at the Senator Tokunbo Abiru Stadium.

This featured NYCN Epe versus NYCN Eredo. In a spirited display of teamwork and camaraderie, NYCN Eredo emerged victorious, defeating NYCN Epe with a score of 5โ€“2. The novelty match set a positive tone for the rest of the dayโ€™s events, bringing young people together in the spirit of unity, sportsmanship, and community bonding.

In addition to football, various indoor games such as Scrabble, Ludo, and card games were organized. These activities created a lively and inclusive atmosphere, promoting relaxation, fun, and positive interaction among youth from across the division.

The success of the 2025 International Youth Day celebration in Epe was made possible through the active participation and support of distinguished personalities, community leaders, and partner organizations.

It wouldn't have been possible without the rocky support of our Grand Patron the Executive Chairman of Epe Local Government, Hon. Princess Surah Olayemi Animashaun, who always sees to the positivity of youths in Epe. The presence of well-wishers and active members of the council was felt and this makes the symposium colourful.

The program also featured leaders from youth organizations, sports associations, representatives of community-based organizations, and student groups. Their presence highlighted the collective responsibility in nurturing youth potential and promoting development across the division.

The NYCN Epe Branch expresses its profound appreciation to all dignitaries, guests, and participants whose contributions enriched the event and ensured its success.

The 2025 International Youth Day celebration was a resounding success, combining intellectual dialogue with recreational engagement to reflect the multifaceted nature of youth development. The program strengthened solidarity among young people and reaffirmed the NYCNโ€™s dedication to advancing youth-driven initiatives in line with the SDGs.

Building on the success of this yearโ€™s celebration, the NYCN Epe Branch intends to deepen partnerships with local organizations and institutions to broaden youth participation. Future editions will incorporate capacity-building workshops and vocational training to enhance the skills of young people further.

Additionally, greater outreach efforts will be made to ensure wider community involvement, particularly from schools and grassroots groups. The Council remains determined to sustain the culture of dialogue and recreational engagement among the youth.
