Police have arrested a man who was detained at a hospital in Lagos state after arriving with his severely battered 18-year-old wife.

Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu confirmed the arrest, following a visit to the Isolo General Hospital, where the victim is currently receiving medical treatment.

According to Harrison, investigations revealed that the victim has lived with the suspect since she was 15 years old and was forced to drop out of school due to the relationship.

He said despite the abuse, the victim fiercely defended her husband and fought to prevent his arrest, citing fears of facing backlash from her abuser's family.

Harrison noted that she needs urgent psychological therapy due to the severe, long-term trauma of the relationship.

According to a video interview shared online on Saturday, June 20, 2026, by media personality Onyebuchi Ifeanyi Mbachu, the victim, an indigene of Ebonyi State, disclosed that the problem began earlier that day when she asked her husband for money to prepare food for the family.

She stated that she had already used the profits from her shop to purchase vegetables, needing only her husband's financial contribution to complete the meal. Her husband one Mr. Francis reportedly claimed he had no money that day and subsequently took their children home.

The situation escalated later that evening when her husband returned to his wife’s shop around 8:00 PM, demanding she close early and return home. She declined, explaining that the late evening was her peak sales period.

The victim eventually closed her shop and returned home at 9:30 PM. After putting her children to bed and retiring for the night, she was severely assaulted by her husband.

The violent attack left the pregnant woman with severe injuries, requiring urgent medical attention and hospitalisation.

It was gathered that her husband fled the community after the assault.

A South African woman have been sentenced to 130 years imprisonment for co***ne trafficking in Sierra Leone (photo)

The High Court of Sierra Leone presided by Justice Andrew S.C. Johnson, has sentenced a 37-year-old South African woman, Asandra Denise, to 130 years’ imprisonment for offences relating to the unlawful possession, transportation, and importation of co***ne.

The charges were brought to Sections 8(a) and 7(b) and (c) of the National Drugs Control Act, 2008 (Act No. 10 of 2008).

According to the particulars of offence, the accused was apprehended at the Freetown International Airport, Lungi, in the North-West Region of Sierra Leone, after being found in possession of Three Hundred and Sixty-Five (365) pellets of co***ne weighing approximately 5.4 kilograms, without lawful authority. And the accused pleaded not guilty to all charges.

During the trial, the Prosecution called three witnesses, including a Forensic Toxicologist, Joseph Lahai, who testified that samples taken from the exhibits—amounting to 10.5 grams—were subjected to laboratory analysis and tested positive for Co***ne Hydrochloride.

Counsel for the Defence, Ibrahim Samba Esq., informed the Court that, following consultation with his client and in the absence of defence witnesses, the accused elected to rely on her statement made to the police.

Closing the Prosecution’s case, I.A. Kamara Esq. applied to tender the ex-officio information under the hand of the learned Attorney General, pursuant to Section 153(b) of the Criminal Procedure Act, 2024 (Act No. 8 of 2024).

In his judgment, Honourable Justice Johnson held that the Prosecution had established its case beyond reasonable doubt.

He described the evidence of the Prosecution witnesses as credible, consistent, and unshaken under cross-examination, noting that the mere denial by the accused was insufficient to rebut the weight of the evidence presented.

“I am satisfied that the Prosecution has proved its case beyond reasonable doubt,” Justice Johnson ruled, before finding the accused guilty on all five counts.

The Court imposed the following sentences:

Count One (Unlawful Possession of Prohibited Drugs): 10 years’ imprisonment.

Count Two (Dealing in Prohibited Drugs): 30 years’ imprisonment.

Count Three (Collecting Prohibited Drugs): 30 years’ imprisonment.

Count Four (Importing Prohibited Drugs): 30 years’ imprisonment.

Count Five (Transporting Prohibited Drugs): 30 years’ imprisonment.

The Court, however, ordered that all sentences shall run concurrently, effective from the date of the convict’s remand in custody.

Additionally, Justice Johnson ordered that the co***ne and all related exhibits be forfeited to the State and directed that the narcotic substances be destroyed in the presence of the appropriate authorities.

A Nigerian man, Qudus Ajeyemi who was studying in the United Kingdom, has been sentenced to five-and-a-half years in prison after being convicted of attempted r**e and sexual assault following an attack on a woman in Hull. (Photo)

Ajeyemi, 27, known by the nickname “Spartan”, was found guilty after a six-day trial at Hull Crown Court.

He was living on May Street in Hull and was in the UK on a student visa at the time of the offence in early 2023.

According to evidence presented in court, the woman had gone to a house on Tavistock Street in Hull after a night out. After consuming alcohol and feeling unwell, she was taken upstairs by Ajeyemi, who had offered her a place to sleep.

Charlotte Baines, prosecuting, said: “Spartan led her upstairs and she lay down on the bed. She thought that he would leave her there to have a sleep. Within a few seconds, Spartan was touching her.

“She pushed him off and told him: ‘I’m not here for that.’ Her response did not please Spartan and he touched her again.

The court heard that the woman managed to push him away and ran downstairs in fear.

She sat down on the sofa in the sitting room and started to cry.

“Some of Spartan’s friends asked her what was wrong. Spartan himself then came into the room and asked her what was wrong – knowing what he had done.

Following the incident, Ajeyemi reportedly contacted the victim through FaceTime, admitted what he had done and repeatedly apologised, later sending additional messages asking for forgiveness.

The victim preserved records of the conversations and handed them to police in March 2023, leading to an investigation by Humberside Police’s Protecting Vulnerable People Unit.

In addition to his prison term, Ajeyemi will be deported to Nigeria after completing his sentence. He was also placed on the S*x Offenders Register for life and handed a seven-year restraining order.

Detective Sergeant Ethan Anderson, who led the investigation, praised the victim for coming forward.

Felix Rojas, 44, sat speechless as he was sentenced on Wednesday, June 17.

He was sentenced with prison time for the heinous assault and robbery of Jorge Gonzalez, 37, on an R train near the Whitehall Street station in April 2025.

Gonzalez boarded the R train, lost consciousness and died on a bench inside the subway car nearly three hours before Rojas showed up and violated him.

Rojas, of Brooklyn, first noticed Gonzalez was motionless. He then moves his waist up to Gonzalez’s mouth while “repeatedly thrusting his hips back and forth,” Manhattan prosecutors said.

It was revealed in court that Rojas then pulled Gonzalez’s pants down, r**ed him and searched through his pockets.

Rojas pulled up Gonzalez’s pants and sat back on the subway bench as the train continued to make station stops to avoid being caught, court papers revealed.

Rojas, is a Mexican national, he turned himself in three weeks after the gruesome attack, accompanied by his son.

Rojas identified himself after seeing a surveillance image of the incident, but told cops he “did not do that,” authorities said.

Rojas refused to comment ahead of his sentencing, taking a plea deal that includes 15 years of supervised release following his prison sentence.

The victim Gonzalez came to the US nearly 20 years ago, working all kinds of jobs to support his family back home, his family said.

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 60-year-old man in Asaba, the state capital, for allegedly defiling his neighbour's two daughters aged seven and 11. (Photo)

According to information shared by human rights advocate, Harrison Gwamnishu on Tuesday, the incident came to light after the children's mother noticed unusual behaviour from one of her daughters and subsequently discovered injuries.

He explained that the mother became concerned when she saw her 10-year-old daughter fanning her private area. Upon further examination, she allegedly discovered injuries and questioned the child about what had happened.

According to Gwamnishu, the girl eventually disclosed that their 60-year-old neighbour had allegedly been abusing her. The child reportedly told her mother that she had remained silent because the suspect had threatened her.

Further inquiries by the family allegedly revealed that the younger sister, aged seven, had also experienced similar abuse involving the same neighbour.

The allegations have sparked concerns within the community, with calls for a thorough investigation and appropriate action by law enforcement authorities.

Gwamnishu further revealed that he accompanied the family to the police and commended officers for their response.

He said

"Yesterday (Monday) I personally drove to A Division Asaba and commended the JWC Department for a good job in ensuring the suspect remain in custody," he wrote on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.

He further disclosed that the suspect was expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

"Today (Tuesday) suspect will be transferred to SCID where he will find his way to where he belongs," Gwamnishu added.

The activist also appealed to the Delta State Government to intervene by providing legal, psychological and welfare support to the victims and their mother.

"I urge Delta State Ministry of Justice, Delta State Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development, and Princess Ajudua to immediately take over this case and ensure the poor mother get all necessary support," he said.

Gwamnishu further pledged to personally support the family throughout the legal process to ensure that financial constraints do not hinder the pursuit of justice.

"On my own, I have promised the woman that her logistics for the case will be covered by me so she won't have reasons to settle with anyone and withdraw this case," he stated.
