Forty-Five Women Lifted Out of Poverty Through Skills Acquisition Training in Ofolijinwa Community, Kogi State

Economic hardship continues to affect many rural families, especially young mothers with limited opportunities for sustainable livelihoods. In response, DEC Enugu, working with partner communities and local leaders, organized a one-month skills acquisition programme for women in Ofolijinwa Community, Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The initiative equipped participants with practical skills in catering, cosmetology, and leatherworks, providing them with new opportunities for self-reliance and income generation.

Since the inception of its women capital development programme, DEC Enugu has empowered over 350 young mothers across communities in Kogi State with skills in cake making, soap and detergent production, shoe and bag making, and other household enterprises.

DEC Enugu Donates Seed Drugs to Ikpakpara Primary Health Care Centre

The Development Education Centre (DEC), Enugu, under the leadership of its Consulting Director, Dr. Cecilia Asogwa, has once again demonstrated its commitment to improving healthcare delivery in rural communities with the donation of seed drugs to the Ikpakpara Primary Health Care Centre in Aguamede, Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The seed drugs were formally received on behalf of the community by the current Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Philip Jideofor, during a brief presentation held on June 10, 2026.

DEC has maintained a longstanding relationship with the Ikpakpara community, having earlier facilitated the construction of the Primary Health Care Centre. Beyond providing the facility, the organization has continued to support the community through regular interventions, including the provision of essential drugs, medical equipment, and other healthcare resources aimed at improving access to quality healthcare services.

Speaking through the gesture, Dr. Cecilia Asogwa reaffirmed DEC's dedication to promoting the well-being of underserved communities and strengthening primary healthcare systems across Enugu State.

The latest donation of seed drugs is expected to enhance the availability of basic medications and improve healthcare outcomes for residents of Ikpakpara and neighboring communities who rely on the health centre for essential medical services.

Community members expressed appreciation to the Development Education Centre for its unwavering support over the years, noting that the organization's interventions have significantly contributed to better healthcare services and improved quality of life in the area.

DEC Enugu remains committed to empowering communities through sustainable interventions in health, education, and social development, ensuring that vulnerable populations have access to services that promote human dignity and development.

DEC Conducts Health Intervention Program in Ofolijinwa Community, Ofu LGA

Residents of Ofolijinwa community in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State recently benefited from a health intervention program organized by DEC, aimed at improving access to basic healthcare services and strengthening community health support.

The outreach program brought together healthcare workers, community leaders, and residents for a medical intervention focused on providing essential healthcare assistance to people within the community. During the exercise, members of the community received medical attention, health consultations, and basic treatment services.

As part of the intervention, DEC also donated seed drugs and medical supplies to the community health centre to support continuous healthcare delivery after the outreach program. Community-Based Sensitization of Women on Their Rights and Prevention of Gender-Based Violence in South East Nigeria

The Development Education Center (DEC), Enugu, continues to empower women through impactful community-based sensitization across South East Nigeria. In a recent outreach, DEC convened a vibrant gathering of women in a welcoming community pavilion, creating a safe and inclusive space for dialogue, learning, and collective action.

The interactive session brought together respected women leaders and community members who actively engaged in discussions on their rights and their role in preventing gender-based violence. Guided by experienced facilitators, participants shared experiences, asked questions, and explored practical ways to strengthen support systems within their communities.

Through its “100 Women” mobilization model, DEC equips women to become advocates and change agents. These women serve as trusted voices, promoting awareness, supporting survivors, and fostering inclusive participation in community decision-making. The session also strengthened solidarity among participants, encouraging collective action and sustained community engagement.

DEC’s grassroots approach ensures that interventions are culturally relevant and community-owned. International Women’s Day 2026: Empowering Women to Speak, Act, and Lead

During this year’s International Women’s Day celebration, Development Education Centre (DEC) Enugu took bold steps to promote and protect the rights of women across communities in South East and North Central Nigeria.

With the theme “Give and Gain,” the initiative focused on advocacy, education, and direct engagement with community leaders, religious institutions, and government stakeholders. Women were empowered to speak out, understand their rights, and actively participate in shaping decisions that affect their lives.

From Edemani Ogwugwu Eze Ancient Kingdom to communities across Enugu and Kogi States, the event brought together leaders and change-makers committed to ending harmful cultural practices such as denial of inheritance, exclusion from governance, and limited access to opportunities.
