Custos Care Foundation Intervenes in the Sexual Defilement of a Minor in Amagunze
.. We will eliminate the scourge of SGBV.
On Tuesday, 19th May, 2026, following the intervention by the Custos Care Foundation (CCF), four boys allegedly involved in the gang-rape of a 16-year-old girl at Onitsha-Agu, Amagunze in Nkanu East LGA of Enugu State, have been apprehended by the Enugu State Police Command.
Narrating her ordeal to our team, amidst tears and emotional distress, the survivor (name withheld for privacy as she is a minor) said that the alleged perpetrators, Tochukwuma Ogbodo, Michael Ani, Ifenna Nnam, and Emeka Nwanyinagba, all from Onicha Agu, Amagunze, Nkanu East LGA, intercepted her on a bush path, and took turns to violate her until a Good Samaritan rescued her.
Upon receiving complaints about the incident, our team swung into action by providing support for the survivor and ensuring that justice was served.
Initially, we provided her access to medical treatment at a hospital to prevent further complications from her injuries.
Despite her injuries and the psychological trauma she is enduring, the boys continued to threaten her and her family with more violence because they were not indigenes of the community.
According to the survivor, "the leader of the gang, Mr Tochukwuma Ogbodo, went around the village boasting that there would be no consequences because the survivor is from a poor family."
The survivor recounted her ordeal at the hands of Tochukwuma Ogbodo, who had previously beaten her on four separate occasions. Although he was sanctioned by the community on one occasion, where he was forced to pay a fine for beating and harassing her, that never deterred him. Instead, he was determined to harm her for daring to refuse his sexual advances.
According to the survivor's family, “This time, when we reported to the community, the traditional ruler and the neighbourhood watch group told us they could not intervene.
Even some members of the community threatened to evict us from Onicha Agu. We involved the police just because we are not indigenes of Onicha Agu.”
That is why we decided to seek help by reporting to the Custos Care Foundation," they said.
Through the Mama Care Initiative, we will support the survivor with medical treatment and ensure she gets justice.
We reaffirm our zero-tolerance stance on violence against women and girls, especially the defilement of innocent children, and pledge to act swiftly to eradicate it from our communities.
The era of silence and lack of accountability is over. Perpetrators of gender-based violence must be held accountable to serve as a deterrent and to keep other children safe.
We must not normalise a society where wrongdoers feel invincible, continue victimising victims, or where survivors are forced to hide in shame and silence.
Although the survivor has left the community for her safety, we reiterate that every Nigerian has the right to move freely and carry out their business without hindrance. Community leaders must have the courage to protect all residents, whether natives or migrants.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the Nigerian Police for their swift response in apprehending the suspect and investigating the matter.
We are hopeful that the case will be pursued to its conclusion and that the perpetrators will face the full sanctions of the law.
Our organisation remains committed to fostering communities of tolerance and safety, where all vulnerabilities are eliminated, and people are empowered to live with dignity, hope, and opportunity.
