As the Children’s Day celebrations came to a close, my heart remained deeply heavy and grieved for many families across our nation who are currently navigating fear, uncertainty, and pain.

At Custos Care Foundation, through our Mama Care Initiative and our continued commitment to the well-being of women and children, moments like these remind us that, beyond policies and programs, real families are carrying unimaginable pain and real children whose safety and innocence must remain a national priority.

The heartbreaking incident involving the abduction of innocent children and teachers in Oyo State, alongside the growing insecurity affecting many communities across Nigeria, has shaken many of us to the core. Seeing the frightened faces of little children — children who should be learning, laughing, dreaming, and growing in peace — is a pain no society should ever grow comfortable with. No child should grow up becoming familiar with fear before they even understand the fullness of life. Childhood should be safe, joyful, protected, and filled with hope.

Even amid the songs, smiles, and beautiful moments shared during the Children’s Day celebrations, there remained the painful reminder that somewhere, some children are unable to celebrate freely because fear has stolen the peace every child deserves.

Each night, many mothers will hold their children a little tighter, while others will stare into the darkness, praying for the chance to hold theirs again.

Many fathers will continue carrying silent pain behind brave faces.
Many families will keep waiting, praying, and holding onto hope with trembling hearts.

As a mother, I feel that anguish deeply.

To every family going through these painful moments, please know that you are not alone. Across Nigeria, countless hearts are praying with you, standing with you, and hoping with you for peace, comfort, and the safe return of your loved ones.

And to those holding innocent children away from their families, may compassion and humanity guide your hearts. Every child is someone’s answered prayer, someone’s joy, someone’s whole world. Every child is deeply loved, deeply missed, and precious beyond words.

As a nation, we must never become desensitised to the pain of grieving families or the growing fear surrounding the safety of our children and communities. The protection of innocent lives must remain a collective responsibility for all of us.

We continue to appreciate the efforts of all those working tirelessly to keep our communities safe and protect innocent lives.

We remain committed to supporting efforts that strengthen peace, protect families, and preserve the dignity and safety of every Nigerian child. We will continue to encourage community vigilance, support our security institutions, and advocate for safer schools and safer communities in Enugu State and across Nigeria.

Our children deserve to grow up in a country where classrooms remain places of learning and dreams, not fear and uncertainty.

May God comfort hurting families, protect our children, strengthen our security personnel, and heal our nation.

May every missing child return home safely.

As we commemorate Children’s Day, we at Custos Care Foundation (CCF) heartily celebrate the children of Enugu State and Nigeria, especially Little Vangaurd Initiative for Child Protection & Empowerment.

At CCF, children remain at the heart of our interventions. Through initiatives focused on healthcare, nutrition, immunisation, protection, and education, we strongly believe that the strength of any society is reflected in how well it nurtures and protects its children.

Our Mama Care Initiative is committed to ensuring healthy pregnancies and safe childbirth. By supporting close to 1801 pregnant women with health insurance premiums and delivery kits, we are contributing to the reduction of infant and maternal mortality in Enugu State, because we believe that a healthy life begins in the womb.

Protecting children from all forms of violence, including exploitation, child labour, abuse, neglect, and abandonment, remains central to our humanitarian mission. We believe that every child raised with love, care, and support, regardless of biological ties, is more likely to grow into a responsible and productive member of society.

The hope of a prosperous nation is determined by the quality of the offspring we raise today.

Together ❤️, we can build a society where every child feels safe, valued, and empowered with opportunities to thrive.
Congratulations to all children in Enugu State!
Happy Children’s Day, Champions! 🎉

Custos Care Foundation Intervenes in the Sexual Defilement of a Minor in Amagunze
.. We will eliminate the scourge of SGBV.

On Tuesday, 19th May, 2026, following the intervention by the Custos Care Foundation (CCF), four boys allegedly involved in the gang-rape of a 16-year-old girl at Onitsha-Agu, Amagunze in Nkanu East LGA of Enugu State, have been apprehended by the Enugu State Police Command.

Narrating her ordeal to our team, amidst tears and emotional distress, the survivor (name withheld for privacy as she is a minor) said that the alleged perpetrators, Tochukwuma Ogbodo, Michael Ani, Ifenna Nnam, and Emeka Nwanyinagba, all from Onicha Agu, Amagunze, Nkanu East LGA, intercepted her on a bush path, and took turns to violate her until a Good Samaritan rescued her.

Upon receiving complaints about the incident, our team swung into action by providing support for the survivor and ensuring that justice was served.

Initially, we provided her access to medical treatment at a hospital to prevent further complications from her injuries.
Despite her injuries and the psychological trauma she is enduring, the boys continued to threaten her and her family with more violence because they were not indigenes of the community.

According to the survivor, "the leader of the gang, Mr Tochukwuma Ogbodo, went around the village boasting that there would be no consequences because the survivor is from a poor family."
The survivor recounted her ordeal at the hands of Tochukwuma Ogbodo, who had previously beaten her on four separate occasions. Although he was sanctioned by the community on one occasion, where he was forced to pay a fine for beating and harassing her, that never deterred him. Instead, he was determined to harm her for daring to refuse his sexual advances.

According to the survivor's family, “This time, when we reported to the community, the traditional ruler and the neighbourhood watch group told us they could not intervene.

Even some members of the community threatened to evict us from Onicha Agu. We involved the police just because we are not indigenes of Onicha Agu.”

That is why we decided to seek help by reporting to the Custos Care Foundation," they said.

Through the Mama Care Initiative, we will support the survivor with medical treatment and ensure she gets justice.

We reaffirm our zero-tolerance stance on violence against women and girls, especially the defilement of innocent children, and pledge to act swiftly to eradicate it from our communities.
The era of silence and lack of accountability is over. Perpetrators of gender-based violence must be held accountable to serve as a deterrent and to keep other children safe.

We must not normalise a society where wrongdoers feel invincible, continue victimising victims, or where survivors are forced to hide in shame and silence.

Although the survivor has left the community for her safety, we reiterate that every Nigerian has the right to move freely and carry out their business without hindrance. Community leaders must have the courage to protect all residents, whether natives or migrants.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the Nigerian Police for their swift response in apprehending the suspect and investigating the matter.
We are hopeful that the case will be pursued to its conclusion and that the perpetrators will face the full sanctions of the law.
Our organisation remains committed to fostering communities of tolerance and safety, where all vulnerabilities are eliminated, and people are empowered to live with dignity, hope, and opportunity.

We took the Mama Care Initiative Mobile Clinic, to Nchatancha, Nike community in Enugu East LGA and the response was incredible. We arrived with a clear mission to bring high-quality, free healthcare straight to the heart of the community, and we are proud to share that this outreach under the Mama care initiative, our maternal and child healthcare and welfare arm, directly impacted the lives of over 600 children.

Our dedicated medical team and volunteers poured genuine care and patience into every single child. Families arrived feeling the weight of healthcare barriers and left with a massive sense of relief. We focused on providing thorough vital signs checks, body mass index assessments, malaria testing and treatment, and deworming.

We also hosted interactive sessions teaching the kids practical daily habits for good personal hygiene and nutrition, while parents actively engaged to get clear, actionable advice on preventive childcare. To make the day even brighter, we provided refreshments for all the children and caregivers present.

Then came a truly special moment that we will never forget. Word reached us that a mother had just given birth at the health centre right while our outreach was taking place. The entire team went wild with celebration! We rushed over to congratulate her and gifted her a Mama Care Kit packed with newborn essentials to give her baby a healthy start.

Being in the heart of Nchatancha and serving these families is a privilege we will never take for granted. Every child—no matter where they are born—deserves the chance to grow up healthy, vibrant, and full of potential. Seeing those smiles and the relief in the parents’ eyes is the exact inspiration that drives our mission forward.
