World Sight Day 2024: “CHILDREN, LOVE YOUR EYES”

Research shows that reducing screen time and spending time outside protects children from developing short-sightedness (myopia).

Protect Eyes from injury. Avoid sharp objects like knife, scissors, needles and pin.

Handle pencils, pens etc with care.

It is important to take regular breaks during activities such as reading or using digital devices.

Do not instill liquids into the eye.

Eat a balanced diet.

Regular eye and vision checks can help to identify issues at an early stage.

Use only eye prescription by an eye doctor.

We're glad to have another opportunity to serve in the community.

Two weeks ago, Children Solace Support Organization trained 30 health workers from 15 primary health centers in Enugu South LGA on "Essential Newborn Care".

Our goal is to equip the primary health care workers with knowledge, skills and equipment for newborn resuscitation.
Each health center was given a bag and mask (ambu bag), penguin suction and algorithm for Essential Newborn Care.

Special appreciation to Dr. Kourtney Bettinger for the collaboration on the ICATCH project, Prof Kene Iloh, Dr. Chinelo Obiora-Izuka, Dr. Chinenye Jideofor, Dr. Melody Emma-Egba, Dr Oguchi Uzo, Onyinye Okafor and my dear Children Solace volunteers.
You all made this possible.

Looking forward to the refresher trainings. Also looking forward to more collaborations with organizations etc to improve access to healthcare.

On 13th June 2024, we collaborated with Dr. Kourtney Bettinger for the reciprocal exchange program of the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders.

It was a great session. We appreciate our co-facilitators - Prof Kene Iloh, Drs. @ Chinenye Jideofor and Uzo Oguchi who joined us to train 30 health workers from 15 selected primary health centers from Enugu East LGA of Enugu state.

The health workers were trained on best practices for essential newborn care, newborn resuscitation and helping babies breathe at birth.

Each primary health center was given a bag and mask device, penguin suction and action plans for essential newborn care.

Special thanks to:
*Our volunteers Children Solace Support Organization who did an amazing job in the organization of the workshop.

Today is World Prematurity Day!

A parent's embrace is vital for the survival of preterm babies.

Kangaroo mother care is a cost effective way of providing warmth to newborn babies.
