🎉 DAY 4: CONCLUSION OF THE 4-DAY CAPACITY TRAINING ON FIRST 1,000 DAYS DIETARY DIVERSITY IN ENUGU-EAST LGA! 🌱🥗

The fourth and final day of the capacity training for Health Facility Officers-in-Charge (OICs) and community caregivers focused on continued food processing, food packaging, and strategic marketing.

🥘 Food Processing: Participants continued exploring practical food processing techniques to support the preparation, preservation, and utilization of nutritious foods for households.

📦 Food Packaging: The session highlighted the importance of proper food packaging in maintaining food quality, promoting hygiene, and improving product presentation.

📈 Strategic Marketing: Participants were introduced to marketing strategies that can help them promote their food products, reach potential customers, and create income-generating opportunities for their households.

The training has provided an opportunity to strengthen participants' knowledge of dietary diversity, nutritious food production, processing, and marketing, with the ultimate goal of improving household nutrition and preventing child malnutrition during the critical first 1,000 days of life.

As we conclude this four-day capacity training, we remain committed to promoting healthier feeding practices, strengthening community caregivers, and supporting healthier futures for mothers and children. 💚

🌱 DAY 3: CAPACITY TRAINING ON FIRST 1,000 DAYS DIETARY DIVERSITY IN ENUGU-EAST LGA 🍠🥗

Day 3 of the 4-day capacity training for Health Facility Officers-in-Charge (OICs) and community caregivers was focused on understanding the five classes of food groups and practical demonstrations on the cultivation of orange-fleshed sweet potato (OFSP).

🥦 Promoting Dietary Diversity: Participants explored the importance of consuming a variety of foods from the five food groups to ensure mothers, infants, and young children receive the essential nutrients needed for healthy growth and development.

🍠 Learning Through Practice: The practical demonstration on orange-fleshed sweet potato cultivation highlighted opportunities for households to grow nutritious crops, improve food availability, and promote healthier feeding practices within their communities.

These activities reinforce the importance of equipping caregivers and health workers with practical knowledge to improve household nutrition, prevent malnutrition, and support the healthy development of children during the critical first 1,000 days of life.

🌱 DAY 2: CAPACITY TRAINING ON FIRST 1,000 DAYS DIETARY DIVERSITY IN ENUGU-EAST LGA

Day 2 of the 4-day capacity training for Health Facility Officers-in-Charge (OICs) and community caregivers focused on the concept of vegetable gardening and the introduction of orange-fleshed sweet potato cultivation. 🥬🍠

The session emphasized the importance of promoting household vegetable gardens and cultivating nutrient-rich crops as practical ways to improve dietary diversity, strengthen household food security, and support better nutrition for mothers and young children during the first 1,000 days of life.

By equipping health workers and community caregivers with practical nutrition knowledge, we are taking meaningful steps toward preventing malnutrition and encouraging families to adopt healthier, more sustainable feeding practices.

Ongoing Training on Infant Feeding Practices! 🍼🥦

As part of our commitment to improving child nutrition and promoting healthy growth, the capacity-building training on Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) Practices is ongoing in Enugu-East LGA, Enugu State.

The training brings together Health Facility Officers-in-Charge (OICs) and community caregivers to strengthen their knowledge and skills in promoting optimal infant feeding, dietary diversity, and essential nutrition practices during the first 1,000 days of a child’s life.

Through knowledge-sharing and practical learning, we aim to empower caregivers and health workers to make informed decisions that prevent malnutrition and give every child a healthier start in life.

Together, we can build healthier families, stronger communities, and a future where every child has the opportunity to thrive. 💚

Organized by: Enugu State Ministry of Human Development and Poverty Eradication, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Enugu State Primary Health Care Development Agency, and UNICEF.

🌍 CLM SUCCESS STORY: RESTORING HOPE AT UGWUAARON HEALTH CENTRE

Community-Led Monitoring (CLM) in Action: From Stock-Out to Sustainable HIV Testing Services

For some time, Ugwuaaron Health Centre faced a critical shortage of HIV test kits, making it difficult for healthcare workers to provide essential HIV testing services—particularly to pregnant women.

This gap created serious challenges for prevention, early detection, and linkage to care.

But the community did not remain silent. 💪🏽

Through the Community-Led Monitoring (CLM) project, Community-Led Monitoring Teams (CLMTs) identified and documented the stock-out, engaged relevant stakeholders, and consistently followed up with authorities. The issue was escalated to the State Advocacy Team (SAT), which subsequently engaged the Enugu State Agency for the Control of AIDS (ENSACA).

📢 THE RESULT? ACTION!

Following sustained advocacy and evidence-based engagement, ENSACA provided two packs of HIV testing kits—50 test kits in total—to Ugwuaaron Health Centre.

Even more importantly, the health centre was formally included on the list of facilities designated to receive regular supplies of HIV test kits going forward.

❤️ WHAT THIS MEANS FOR THE COMMUNITY

The intervention has:

✅ Restored HIV testing services, especially for pregnant women
✅ Strengthened the facility's capacity for prevention and early detection
✅ Increased confidence among healthcare workers and community members
✅ Connected the facility to the regular supply chain for HIV test kits

The Officer-in-Charge (OIC) expressed appreciation to the CLM project and the stakeholders whose efforts contributed to making the intervention possible.

Today, on the 2026 World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, we joined our voices with the world to raise awareness under the theme:

"Trapped Behind the Scam."

Human trafficking is increasingly hidden behind fake job offers, fraudulent scholarships, online relationships, false travel opportunities, and other deceptive schemes. These scams destroy lives, especially those of children and young people.

Youth Child Support Initiative (YCSI) was proud to be actively involved in commemorating this important day alongside NACTAL and Dream FM, advocating for greater awareness, prevention, and collective action against human trafficking.

Every conversation, every awareness campaign, and every informed decision brings us one step closer to protecting vulnerable people from exploitation.

Together, let's expose the scams, protect our communities, and end human trafficking.

We were honored to participate in the First Quarterly Coordination Meeting of the Community-Led Monitoring (CLM) Project under the GC7 Grant, held on 18th May 2026 at The Fidelma Hotel.
As one of the Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) implementing the CLM project in Enugu North LGA, Youth Child Support Initiative remains committed to strengthening community engagement, accountability, and access to quality healthcare services.
The meeting provided an opportunity for stakeholders to review progress, share experiences, discuss challenges, and strengthen collaboration toward achieving impactful results in our communities.

📢 Sensitization on Gender-Based Violence at New Haven Market, Enugu

Today, we took a bold step toward building a safer and more informed community as we carried out a sensitization program on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) at New Haven Market, Enugu.

Traders, buyers, and community members were engaged in meaningful conversations about:
🔹 What gender-based violence really means
🔹 The different forms it can take (physical, emotional, sexual, and economic)
🔹 How to recognize the signs
🔹 The importance of speaking up and seeking help

We emphasized that violence is never justified and that everyone deserves to live with dignity, respect, and safety.

Together, we can break the silence, challenge harmful norms, and support survivors. Change begins with awareness—and awareness starts with us.

Showcasing Good Practices in Combating GBV and Human Trafficking in Nigeria
On 10th March 2026, the Youth Child Support Initiative (YCSI) participated in an important knowledge-sharing session, The event focused on “Showcasing Good Practices in GBV Prevention & Combating Human Trafficking.”
The presentation was delivered by Dr. Chief Mrs. Ijeoma Ruthven Nweji (PhD), representing Youth Child Support Initiative (YCSI), a proud member organization of the Network Against Child Trafficking, Abuse and Labour (NACTAL) Nigeria.
During the session, YCSI highlighted its community-centered and survivor-focused approach to addressing gender-based violence and human trafficking. The organization shared practical strategies used in supporting survivors, including:
🔹 Psychosocial stabilization and counseling
🔹 Family tracing and safe reunification with consent
🔹 Community awareness and stigma reduction
🔹 Economic empowerment through skills acquisition and support tools
🔹 Sustainable reintegration through community participation
The presentation emphasized the importance of collaboration, survivor empowerment, and community ownership in building long-term solutions to trafficking and gender-based violence.
Through partnerships like the NACTAL FIAP collaboration, organizations are strengthening their capacity to protect vulnerable women, children, and communities while promoting sustainable social inclusion.
