Turning plastic pollution into practical progress! ♻️🌱
These photos were taken in June 2026 at Queen's School in Enugu, showcasing incredible grassroots recycling efforts in action. One bin is cleverly constructed entirely from upcycled green plastic bottles, while the dedicated collection cages serve as drop-off points for plastic bottles and pure water sachets.
Every single bottle and sachet collected here is one less piece of plastic clogging our drainage channels, being burned in the open, or polluting our local environment. When institutions like Queen's School lead by example, they teach the next generation that keeping our city clean is a shared responsibility.
Small daily actions build sustainable cities and cleaner communities.

Let’s hear from you:
Do you have dedicated plastic collection points like this near your home, school, or workplace in Enugu?
What would encourage more schools to adopt recycling bins?

Did you know that up to 60% of household waste can be recycled or composted instead of ending up in open dumpsites? ♻️🌱 Small changes in our daily routines can make a huge difference for our local environment and community health. Here's a simple 3-step guide to starting waste segregation at home:
1. Separate Dry Recyclables: Keep plastics, plastic bottles, glass, metal cans, and dry paper in one dedicated bin.
2. Isolate Organic Waste: Keep food scraps, vegetable peels, and organic waste separate — these can be turned into rich compost for gardening instead of rotting in landfills!
3. Safe Disposal for Hazardous Items: Batteries, electronics, and chemicals should never go into regular trash bins. Keep them aside for a specialised collection. When we segregate waste at the source, we reduce pollution, keep our streets cleaner, and support a sustainable circular economy.

Biodiversity is fundamental to plant health, food security and resilient agrifood systems. 🌱🌍

From healthy soils and micro-organisms to pollinators 🐝 and forests 🌳, biodiversity sustains ecosystems, food systems and supports livelihoods for millions of people. But pests and invasive species threaten biodiversity worldwide.

Through international cooperation 🤝 and science-based standards, the International Plant Protection Convention - IPPC plays a vital role in helping countries to prevent the introduction and spread of plant pests that endanger biodiversity, agriculture, trade and the environment. Local actions have global impact.

Protecting plant health means protecting biodiversity.

Ecosystems are among our most powerful allies in the fight against climate change.

Terrestrial, freshwater and marine ecosystems collectively absorb nearly half of global greenhouse gas emissions, serving as vital carbon sinks.

Protecting and restoring these ecosystems is a smart, cost-effective climate action and essential to achieving the :
