THANK YOU EKSA WORLDWIDE: A FAMILY I AM PROUD OF

Dear Eket students,

Looking back on my time as your first female President, I see more than impactful events, student intervention grants and social welfare packages — I see the living story we wrote together. I see the loud cheers when we won and the modest criticisms that kept me sharp. I remember congress debates where opinions clashed yet respect kept us united, private conversations that shaped my thinking, bus rides to functions where laughter erased our tiredness, and moments when we worked until rest became a luxury. You did not always agree with me, and I did not always get it right, but you taught me tolerance, the strength in listening, and the joy of leading a family bound by purpose where every voice matters and every idea counts.

Yesterday, the 5th of September marked the beginning of a new era for Eksa Worldwide, and our conduct during the recent general elections proves that our democracy is alive and thriving. Before I congratulate the new executives, please permit me to deeply appreciate our great leaders and fathers: our Grand Patron, Mr Akaniyene Tommey, Executive Chairman of Eket Local Government Area, and the Father of Eket Students, Hon Frank Archibong, Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. Your unwavering support kept Eket Students Association Worldwide moving forward.

To the newly inaugurated executives, congratulations. You now carry the heartbeat of Eket students worldwide. I enjoin you to lead with courage, humility and vision.

To our stakeholders and past presidents, thank you for the immense support. To Snr. Comr. Ifiokobong Akanimo, the father of modern Eksa, your vision inspired a generation. To my fellow executives and appointees, your loyalty and sacrifices turned challenges into victories.

Finally, to every Eket student, thank you for your trust, energy and belief. This journey was never mine alone, it was ours. As I take a bow today, not as a member of this family but as your past President, I assure you of my continued support. Eksa is our family, and as one big family, love will always lead. Thank you once again and God bless.

FAREWELL OF HONOR: EKSA WORLDWIDE PRESIDENT LAYS FATHER TO REST AMID LOVE AND SUPPORT

On 29 August, the city of Uyo wore a cloak of solemnity as the Eket Students’ Association (EKSA) Worldwide, dignitaries, and friends gathered to stand with their President, Snr. Comrade Torobong Obot, in bidding farewell to her beloved father, Elder Christopher Edifon Obot. It was a day when grief was shared, hands were joined, and love became the language of comfort.

From the solemn service at Uyo Cenotaph to the warm reception at Share Arena, the outpouring of solidarity was profound. Among those present were Mr. Akaninyene Tommey, Executive Chairman of Eket LGA, Mr. Mfon Bassey, SA to the Governor on Media, and a host of past and present student leaders from EKSA Worldwide, NAEES Worldwide, Afaha Eket Students’ Union, FOSON worldwide, NAAKSS, NANS, and other student bodies.

In a deeply moving moment, the EKSA Worldwide Stakeholders’ Forum, represented by Comr. Emmanuel Assam, presented a condolence letter to the President and offered heartfelt prayers. After the reception, student leaders visited and consoled the President’s mother, speaking words of comfort and lifting her spirit in prayer.

For EKSA Worldwide, this was more than a funeral service, it was the reaffirmation of a bond that transcends titles and offices. Elder Christopher Edifon Obot was a man of integrity, humility, and unwavering faith. He lived a life marked by kindness, wisdom, and service to others, leaving behind a legacy of honour and compassion. Though he has taken his final bow at 80yrs, his values continue to shine through his daughter and in the unity of the community he helped inspire.

Celebrating a Golden Father at 50

On behalf of the Eket Students’ Association (EKSA) Worldwide, I join countless voices to celebrate a man whose life has been both a shelter and a compass to us, Hon. *UPDATE ON THE ONGOING THANK YOU TOUR*

University of Uyo chapter is home.
Admist the ongoing examination in the university. We made our time earlier today to sit, chat and reflect on the academic year. We discussed on ways to develop our personal lives and build capacity in our academic, business, leadership and other spheres of life .

While at it, I was also informed of some of our students who were affected by the robbery which happened earlier this week at Udoette, Ikpa lane and it’s environs .
We call on the security authorities to come to our aid as this has been happening for too long.
As students, we deserve to live in a safe and conducive environment.

Furthermore, intervention funds were given to students to help alleviate the cost caused by the CBT exam course registration.

I conveyed greetings and goodwill messages from the Chairman to the students. He thanked the students for their support and always maintaining law and order. He further charged the students to prioritize their academics and be of good conduct always.

The Eket students in University of Uyo sincerely appreciate our Grand Patron Rt. Hon Akan Tommey for his concern and continuous support to the students.
In times like this our hope is rekindled and as students we are determined to achieve good grades and work hard to contribute to societal development.

EKSA THANK YOU TOUR

As we begin the journey of transition, I commenced my ‘Thank You Tour’ with an interaction with the Eket Students' community in Heritage Polytechnic — not just to express gratitude, but to connect, listen, and stand with our students.

During the conversation, I was deeply moved by the quiet struggles of some of our students who were unable to clear their tuition fees ahead of their semester examinations. This is a reflection of the harsh realities we students face due to the current economic hardship.

Out of sincere concern and compassion, I reached out to the Executive Chairman of Eket Local Government Area, Hon. Akaniyene Tommey, who, in his usual kind-hearted nature, responded swiftly with an intervention fund for the affected students. His action brought hope, relief, and strength — not just to them, but to all of us.

In the presence of the Chapter President, Comr. Obioba Clement, a formal presentation was done and the beneficiaries received it with joy and gratitude.

Through the generosity of our Grand Patron, Hon. Tommey, we are hopeful similar interventions will be extended to other institutions during the tour.

I also encouraged the students to remain peaceful, united, and focused as we approach the EKSA Worldwide elections.

To our dear Chairman, thank you for your consistent leadership from the heart and for being more than a Father to Eket students.

To Eket students in Heritage Polytechnic, thank you for your cooperation and support through the course of my administration . It was great moment with you all.

With gratitude,
Torobong Obot

OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT
EKET STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION (EKSA) WORLDWIDE

PRESS STATEMENT
May 22, 2025

OFFICIAL ADDRESS BY THE PRESIDENT, EKSA WORLDWIDE ON THE EKET STUDENTS’ BURSARY MATTER

Dear Eket Students and the General Public,

I extend my warmest regards and fundamental appreciation to all who have remained steadfast in their commitment to the growth and welfare of Eket students.

The attention of the leadership of EKSA Worldwide has been drawn to various misrepresentations currently making rounds in the media space concerning the recent disbursement of the Eket Students’ Bursary.

Permit me therefore to not only address the concerns raised but to reassure us that leadership of EKSA is poised at continually clamoring for the welfare of her students home and away.

Amidst the understandable concerns that followed the initial phase of the bursary disbursement, particularly the sum of ₦7,000 issued in the first tranche — it became imperative to provide context rooted in truth and clarity. In the course of internal engagement and dialogue, it emerged that this decision emanated from the office of the Supervisor of Education, taken independently and without the prior knowledge of the Executive Chairman and leadership of the students community.
The supervisor of Education acted alone without the involvement of the the students community as the leadership was clearly exempted from the committee sorting the bursary and handling the disbursement. Furthermore, the dean of supervisors charged the supervisor of education to work with the students to ensure a smooth process of which he didn’t take heed, this prompted the leadership to commence transition plans as we were totally in the dark regarding the bursary modalities.
The Eket local government Chairman, Hon. Akaninyene Tommey who was not privy to the details ordered an immediate comprehensive review of the process, a gesture that calmed the storm, restored confidence, and reaffirmed his steadfast devotion to the wellbeing of Eket students.

Exercising both wisdom and humility, Hon. Tommey immediately initiated a comprehensive review of the process: a swift intervention that will bring hope, relief and satisfaction to our students.

It is worthy of note that the leadership of EKSA is fully aware of the present economy and it’s harsh effect on the students thus can never be party to the payment of such amount. On this note, we choose to walk the path of understanding and resolution, knowing that we can achieve more if we do it together.

As the review process unfolds, I wish to assure all students and the general public that transparency remains our guiding principle. We will provide timely updates, and we remain committed to a process that is fair, inclusive, and just.

In the same spirit, we respectfully appeal to the students community, the media and other concerned bodies to exercise their platforms with discernment and professionalism. This is a time to promote unity, not discord, to speak with accuracy and not assumptions. Let us use our words to build and not to break; to inform, not to inflame.

My fellow students,I appeal for continued calm, trust, and solidarity. Let us draw strength from one another and uphold the values that have long defined us. In Eket Local government area, we are blessed with leaders who do not rule from a distance but walk among us; listening, acting, and standing firm.

Let us remember: moments of trial often reveal the truest character of our leaders, and in this moment, my heart remains steadfastly with you, my own people. Please let's be assured that the ongoing review will sort out the differences and balance the equation.

God bless Eksa Worldwide

Yours in Service,
Comr. Torobong Obot
President, EKSA Worldwide.
