πŸ“ GBV Sensitization Program Conducted in Fika LGA

On 18th May 2026, Acomin in collaboration with NIRA Community Development Foundation carried out a Gender-Based Violence (GBV) sensitization program for secondary school students in Fika Local Government Area.

The program focused on raising awareness about the various forms of GBV, educating students on their rights, and encouraging them to speak out against violence and abuse.

Interactive sessions and discussions were held within the school premises, allowing students to actively participate, ask questions, and share experiences related to GBV issues.

βœ… Key Outcomes:

β€’ Increased awareness and understanding of GBV among students.
β€’ Encouragement for students to support peers experiencing violence.
β€’ Greater community engagement, with parents and teachers showing interest in continued GBV prevention discussions.

NIRA Community Development Foundation (NIRA CDF) joins the global community to mark World TB Day and raise awareness about Tuberculosis (TB) a disease that is preventable and curable, yet still many people in our communities die of it.

Advocacy, communication, and social mobilization activities at Yango community of Gulani LGA featuring compound meetings with caregivers. Key messages delivered include uptake of polio vaccines, importance of routine immunization, hygiene, and sanitation practices among others. Caregivers were sensitized on the symptoms, as well as the mode of transmission of polio disease.
Caregivers were urged to ensue every eligible child (0–59 months) receive the full dose of Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) during each round of immunization campaigns.
During the discussion, participants were encouraged to:
β€’ Support vaccinators and allow access to households.
β€’ Disregard misconceptions and rumours about the safety of the polio vaccine.
Caregivers actively participated by asking questions and sharing concerns, which were addressed by the mobilization team.
The caregivers expressed willingness to cooperate with vaccination teams.

NIRA CDF at the Forefront of Localization in the BAY States.

Last week (10th - 12th February), NIRA CDF was honoured to participate in a critical stakeholder engagement workshop on Localization for humanitarian intervention in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe States.

Held in Damaturu, the workshop brought together key players in the sector to discuss a vital question: How can local organizations take the lead in addressing future humanitarian needs?

The meeting, organized by -OCHA under the Food Security Working Group in collaboration with CBM International and FAO Nigeria reinforced the importance of shifting ownership to local actors.

NIRA CDF presence reaffirmed our commitment to the region. We are ready and willing to take charge in both emergency response and developmental interventions. We look forward to a future where local leadership drives sustainable change.
