AGILE Project Coordinator Hosts Department of Family Health Delegation to Strengthen Collaboration.

The Project Coordinator of the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment AGILE, Mall Abdullahi Dahiru Bula, today thursday received a delegation from the Department of Family Health Dr Babagana Abba of the State Ministry of Health during a courtesy visit held at the AGILE Project Coordination Office.

The visit was aimed at strengthening institutional partnership and exploring areas of collaboration between the Department and the AGILE Project in promoting adolescent wellbeing, girls’ education, and improved health outcomes across the state.

Speaking while receiving the delegation, the Project Coordinator, Mall Abdullahi Dahiru Bula, welcomed the team and expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as an important step toward enhancing cooperation between both institutions.

He provided an overview of the AGILE Project, explaining that the initiative focuses on improving access to education and empowerment opportunities for adolescent girls through interventions addressing barriers to learning, health challenges, social protection issues, and gender-related concerns.

Mall Bula also recognized the significant role of the Ministry of Health, especially the Department of Family Health, in supporting programmes related to adolescent and youth health, school health services, reproductive health awareness, and community sensitization.

He assured the delegation of the project’s readiness to work closely with the Department to achieve shared development goals and improve service delivery for adolescents and young people.

Earlier, the Director of Family Health Dr Babagana Abba thanked the Project Coordinator and members of the AGILE team for the warm reception and stressed the importance of stronger collaboration among government institutions and development partners.

The Director stated that the Department of Family Health oversees key areas such as School Health Services, Reproductive Health, Adolescent and Youth Health, Maternal and Child Health, among other interventions targeted at improving the wellbeing of women, children, adolescents, and families in the state.

According to him, several intervention areas of the Department align with the objectives of the AGILE Project, particularly in promoting girls’ education, health awareness, life skills development, and access to reproductive health information and services.

He emphasized the need for effective coordination and partnership to avoid duplication of efforts and ensure maximum utilization of available resources for greater impact at the grassroots level.

During the interactive session, both parties discussed possible areas of collaboration including school health outreaches, adolescent-friendly health services, reproductive health education, community engagement activities, capacity building for service providers, and joint advocacy programmes.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of regular engagement, technical support, and information sharing in ensuring the successful implementation of programmes targeting adolescents and young people.

AGILE Strengthens Safeguards Compliance in Yobe with ESMP Training for Technical Service Providers.
The Yobe State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, in collaboration with the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project, has organized a one-day training on the Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) for Technical Service Providers (TSPs).

The training, held at the Desert Hall of Sand Dunes Hotel in Damaturu, was aimed at strengthening the capacity of participants to effectively implement environmental and social safeguards in project ex*****on.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Assoc.Prof. Abba Idriss Adam, described the AGILE Project as a key component of the Yobe State Government’s education reform agenda under the present administration. He explained that the initiative is focused on revitalizing and improving the overall standard of education across the state.

The Commissioner noted that the training would provide Technical Service Providers with the necessary knowledge and practical skills to carry out their responsibilities efficiently within the project framework.

Earlier in his remarks, the State Coordinator of the AGILE Project, Mall Abdullahi Dahiru Bula, emphasized the importance of environmental considerations in project implementation. He cautioned that some projects could be halted if they fail to meet environmental standards.

He further stressed the need for continuous assessment and evaluation of the impact of projects on the environment, as well as the effect of environmental factors on project sustainability.

According to him, the training is critical to the success of the AGILE Project, as Technical Service Providers play a central role in its implementation. He urged participants to remain attentive and actively engage in the sessions to fully benefit from the knowledge being shared.

Speaking during the session, Asabe Sadauki, Social Safeguard Officer from the National Project Coordination Unit (NPCU) Abuja, highlighted the critical role of ESMP in ensuring that all project activities comply with environmental and social standards. She noted that proper adherence to ESMP guidelines helps to prevent potential risks that could negatively affect communities and the environment.

Asabe Sadauki emphasized that Technical Service Providers are key actors in the successful delivery of AGILE interventions, stressing that their understanding of safeguard principles is essential for sustainable project outcomes.

The training is part of ongoing efforts to ensure that AGILE Project activities are carried out in line with established environmental and social standards.

Gov. Buni Flags Off Conditional Cash Transfer for 32,382 Schoolgirls

The Executive Governor of Yobe State, His Excellency Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni, CON, COMN, has flagged off the disbursement of Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) financial incentives to 32,382 girls in public schools across the state under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project.

Governor Buni, while speaking at the launch, said the initiative is aimed at boosting girl-child education, improving school enrolment and retention, and reducing drop-out rates, especially at the junior-to-senior secondary school transition level. He noted that education remains a top priority of his administration as a key driver of social and economic development.

The Governor also disclosed that the state government has established nine (9) Senior Girls Day Secondary Schools across Yobe to ensure that girls who complete junior secondary school can seamlessly progress to senior secondary education. According to him, the policy is intended to remove barriers that often prevent girls from continuing their education.

In his address, the Project Coordinator of Yobe AGILE, Mall Abdullahi Dahiru Bula, stated that the financial incentives will directly benefit 32,382 girls from public schools, helping to ease the economic burden on their families and encourage regular school attendance. He added that the AGILE Project remains committed to transforming the education sector in the state.

Mall Bula further revealed that the project will construct 50 new schools and renovate 225 existing schools across the state, in line with efforts to improve infrastructure, create a conducive learning environment, and enhance access to quality education for adolescent girls in Yobe State.

AGILE Project visited some selected schools to validate the School Improvement Grant SIG before the Project started in Yobe.

A delegation from National Project Coordinating Unit NPCU 1.2 lead by Salisu Moh'd Amin and the Consultant Qs Timothy k.Burjin go around some schools in the three senatorial zones of the state

This validation aims to see things for themselves and also advise the SBMC chairman and principal who is also the secretary how to manage their facilities.

The consultant sent the new school Improvement plan (SIP) to the principals, and also said the rehabilitation has three categories Large, Medium and Small Grants. The schools will benefit from the provision of WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) facilities with solar power Solar pump Borehole, renovating classrooms and building with office accommodation.

YOBE AGILE COMMEMORATES IDGC.

Yobe State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education,in collaboration with the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning (AGILE) Project, has organised an event as part of the Commemoration of the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child.

Observed annually on 11 October, the International Day of the Girl Child is a key global moment on which to celebrate girls everywhere, amplifying their voices, actions, and leadership.

It is a day that belongs to everyone who cares about Girls and their Rights.

On this day, people come together to recognise and advocate for the full spectrum of girls’ rights.

With Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) AF taking the lead of the celebration in Yobe, the theme of this year's commemoration is "The Girl I am, The Change I Lead".

Speaking during the event marking the commemoration, the Commissioner of the State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Assoc. Abba Idriss Adam, represented by the Deputy Director of Schools, Malam Ibrahim Buba Zarami noted that Girl Child Education is one of the topmost priorities of the Present Administration.

He pointed out that in line with its policy to ensure adequate upbringing of every Girl Child in the State, the Government provided a suitable environment for the AGILE Project in the State.

He added that the project aims to promote the education of Adolescent Girls as well as ensure that they are empowered.

Earlier in his remarks, the Yobe State Project Coordinator, Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment, Alhaji Abdullahi Dahiru Bula said International Day of the Girl Child is set aside to raise awareness about the Challenges facing Girl Children and how much potential the society can explore from their talents.

Bula said at the level of the AGILE Project in Yobe, a series of projects have been executed, while others are ongoing to provide a level playground for the girls to acquire knowledge and excel in life.

In their separate remarks, the Chairperson of HILWA, Dr. Mrs. Mairo Ahmed Amshi MFR, and an Islamic Scholar, Goni Kolo Brah And Chief Iman of Abba Ibrahim Housing Estates Dr Sani Muhammad described girls as the most precious asset in Society calling on people of Society to give Girls every support to excel in life.

The event which featured poems and Drama on the importance of Girl Child Education by some Students of Njiwaji Junior Secondary School and Government Day Girls Senior Secondary School Central Damaturu, had in attendance the representative of the Damaturu Emirate Council, the Zannah Gargamma of the Emirate, Alhaji Buji Gana and many other Dignitaries.

Yobe AGILE Project, TCDI and CPWEI Host Community Engagement Session on Life Skills and Safe Space Implementation

Gashua, Yobe State — The Yobe Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project, in partnership with Taimako Community Development Initiatives (TCDI) and Child Protection and Women Empowerment Initiative (CPWEI), recently convened a community engagement session on life skills and safe space implementation at King’s Abubakar Hall, Gashua, Bade Local Government Area.

The session focused on the AGILE project’s objectives, progress, and stakeholder roles in advancing girls’ education and empowerment. Stakeholders from across Yobe North district participated in presentations and discussions that highlighted achievements and the way forward for the initiative.

In his remarks, Mal. Gambo Garba, Executive Director of TCDI, Implementation Partner and Component Lead 2.2a Lifeskills, emphasis the importance of commitment from mentors , guidance and counselling officers in ensuring the project’s success. He advised them to serve as role models for the young girls and demonstrate genuine commitment to empowering them as they navigate through adulthood.

The safe space initiative was highlighted as a critical component designed to provide girls with a secure and supportive environment for learning, growth, and personal development. Stakeholders were urged to monitor, support, and ensure adequate resources for safe space implementation, reaffirming their essential role in sustaining the project’s impact.

Yobe AGILE Project Empowers Learning Facilitators for Second Chance Education.
The Yobe Adolescent Girls Initiative learning and empowerment AGILE Project, in partnership with the Child Protection Women Empowerment Initiative (CPWEI), is training 40 Learning Facilitators under the Second Chance Education (SCE) program at Modu Mustapha Primary School in Damaturu.

Project Coordinator Mall Abdullahi Dahiru Bula oversaw the training, which covers essential topics including:

- Literacy and Numeracy Skills
- Social-Emotional Learning
- Effective Classroom Management
- Life Skills Development

The Second Chance Education program aims to provide out-of-school children with access to quality education, empowering them to acquire essential skills for their future.

The project's Initiative is a step towards achieving these goals and stakeholders are optimistic about the positive impact it will have on the state's education sectors.

AGILE Project and TCDI Organise Life Skills Community Engagement Session.
The AGILE Project, in partnership with Taimako Community Development Initiative (TCDI) and Child Protection and Women Empowerment Initiative (CPWEI), organised a one-day community engagement session on life skills and safe space implementation. The event brought together key stakeholders, including principals, religious and traditional rulers, women religious groups, and other influential figures.

The AGILE Project aims to promote girls' education and empowerment in the state through this initiative. The session was designed to facilitate understanding and ease enrollment of girls in life skills sessions across 45 public schools in the state. Asma'u Bukar Jumbam, Component Lead of Lifeskill, emphasised that only female teachers will provide guidance and counselling in these schools, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for girls to thrive.

The Executive Director of TCDI presented a comprehensive overview of the Safe Space manual and enrollment reporting and tracking, highlighting the organisation's commitment to empowering girls through education and life skills development. This presentation reinforced the importance of collaboration and partnership in achieving the project's goals.

The AGILE Project's commitment to girls' education and empowerment is evident in its efforts to provide safe spaces for girls to learn and grow. By engaging with key stakeholders and providing life skills training, the project aims to make a lasting impact on the lives of young girls and women.

Yobe AGILE Project and CPWEI organise Stakeholders Validation Workshop for Second Chance Education

The Yobe AGILE project, coordinated by Mall Abdullahi Dahiru Bula, in collaboration with Child Protection and Women Empowerment Initiative (CPWEI), held a stakeholders' workshop on Second Chance Education for out-of-school girls and young women in Yobe State. The workshop, held at the AGILE office conference hall in Damaturu, brought together key stakeholders to review and validate the facilitators' manual.

The workshop aimed to empower adolescent girls through basic literacy, numeracy, and life skills. According to the Executive Director of CPWEI, Maryam Gambo, CPWEI is the implementing partner supporting the implementation of 20 Second Chance Education non-formal learning centres in Yobe State.

Attendees included Hon. Commissioner for the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Hon. Yusuf Umar Potiskum, Executive Director of SAME, Haj Hauwa Adamu, and representatives from SUBEB, Ministry of Youth, and AISEB. The stakeholders' participation underscored the project's commitment to collaboration and partnership.

The Second Chance Education program seeks to provide opportunities for education and skills development, empowering out-of-school girls and young women. By providing basic literacy, numeracy, and life skills, the program aims to equip adolescent girls with the tools they need to succeed in life.

The workshop discussed implementation strategies and fostered collaboration among stakeholders to ensure the program's success. With the support of CPWEI and other partners, the Yobe AGILE project is poised to make a significant impact in the lives of out-of-school girls and young women in Yobe State.
