A successful courtesy visit was conducted to the Commander, Sector 2, Operation Hadin Kai, Damaturu, yesterday 16th April 2026. Mine Action Sector, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration and enhance operational effectiveness within the Area of Responsibility (AoR). The visit provided a strategic platform to reaffirm commitments toward sustained partnership, mutual support, and improved coordination in mine action activities.

During the engagement, key discussions focused on reinforcing existing cooperation frameworks, addressing operational challenges, and identifying opportunities for enhanced synergy between the Mine Action Working Group and Sector 2 Command. Emphasis was placed on the critical role of continuous collaboration in ensuring safe access, risk mitigation, and the protection of civilian populations affected by explosive hazards.

This initiative aligns with the mandate of the Mine Action Working Group to strengthen coordination mechanisms among stakeholders. It further supports the implementation of the 2026 Strategic Plan, particularly in promoting integrated approaches, improving information sharing, and optimizing resource utilization across the AoR.

The visit concluded with a shared commitment to sustain regular engagement, deepen collaboration, and collectively advance mine action objectives in line with national priorities and humanitarian goals.

CPWEI joined other partners to celebrate the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action 2026, with the theme “Invest in Peace, Invest in Mine Action.”

Key messages focused on the role of mine action services in risk education, creating awearness, safety messages, supporting victims and creating safe environments.

The event highlighted the importance of mine action in protecting lives, restoring communities, and promoting peace.

Survivors shared their personal stories, explaining how they were assisted and how their lives have improved through Victim Assistant programs.

Security agencies expressed their ongoing efforts in clearing lands contaminated by mines and unexploded ordnance, ensuring that affected areas are made safe for community use.

And also during the event, a panel group discussion brought together experts and stakeholders to share insights on challenges and progress in mine action.

In addition, EORE (Explosive Ordnance Risk Education) School ambassadors were presented with materials in recognition of their hard work and dedication to educating others on mine risk awareness.

The gesture was aimed at encouraging them to continue their efforts in promoting safety and spreading important knowledge within their schools and communities.
