Happy Children’s Day from Joyce Initiative for Women and Children Development!🎉👧🏽👦🏽

Today, we celebrate the laughter, dreams, and limitless potential of every child. At Joyce Initiative, we believe every child deserves to grow up safe, loved, educated, and heard.

This Children’s Day, we recommit to our mission: protecting the rights of children, supporting mothers, and creating opportunities that help families thrive. When we invest in a child, we invest in the future of our communities.

To every child we’ve met through our programs, you inspire us daily. Your courage and curiosity remind us why this work matters.

Let’s all play our part to build a Nigeria where no child is left behind. Share a smile, offer a helping hand, and speak up for a child today.

Hello Monday!

Joyce Initiative for Women and Children Development successfully organized a 2-day stakeholders’ engagement on coaching and mentoring support for the development of a Strategic Plan for the Yobe State Commission for Persons with Disabilities.

The session brought together key stakeholders to strengthen their capacity in strategic planning, with focus on situational analysis, vision and mission development, core values, and strategic priorities. The engagement also promoted inclusive planning approaches to ensure the needs and rights of persons with disabilities are well reflected in the Commission’s strategic direction.

The activity was well attended and highly participatory, marking an important step toward strengthening institutional planning and disability inclusion in Yobe State.

Sign Language Training for Community Members in Fune, Yobe State

To promote inclusive communication and break down barriers for persons with hearing impairments, we conducted a basic sign language training for community members in Fune LGA, Yobe State.

The training equipped participants - including teachers, health workers, youth leaders, and caregivers - with foundational skills in Nigerian Sign Language to interact with deaf persons in daily life and during humanitarian activities.

Key focus areas:
- Finger spelling and common greetings
- Basic vocabulary for health, protection, and aid distribution
- Disability etiquette and myths around deafness
- Practical role-plays on communicating in markets, clinics, and at distribution points

When communities can sign, deaf persons are no longer isolated. They can access services, report issues, and participate with dignity. Inclusion starts with communication.

This is one step toward ensuring no one is left behind in Fune.

International Women’s Day 2026 Celebration in Yobe State

Joyce Initiative for Women and Children Development (JIWCD) proudly participated in the commemoration of International Women’s Day 2026 in Yobe State, joining stakeholders, advocates, and community leaders to celebrate and advance the rights of women and girls.

The event featured two impactful panel discussions. The first session, “Rights and Justice: Strengthening Legal Protection and Access to Justice for Women and Girls,” focused on the importance of strengthening legal frameworks, increasing awareness of women’s rights, and ensuring that women and girls can access justice without barriers.

The second panel discussion, “From Policy to Action: Community and Institutional Collaboration for the Protection of Women and Girls,”emphasized the need for stronger partnerships between communities, institutions, and civil society organizations to translate policies into meaningful actions that protect and empower women and girls.

JIWCD remains committed to advocating for the rights, protection, and empowerment of women and children through collaboration, awareness, and community-driven solutions.
