UNFPA Nigeria (The United Nations Population Fund) Nigeria convened partners under the Gender-Based Violence Area of Responsibility (GBV AoR) from Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe States for a strategic review, learning, and planning session held at Ibom Resort in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.

The engagement served as an important platform to assess GBV coordination core functions, strengthen the GBV Sector Strategy, enhance GBV Information Management Systems, and collectively refine key frameworks such as the GBV Sub-Sector Strategy, Localization Strategy, and the 2026 Workplan. The sessions were interactive, solution-oriented, and designed to promote stronger coherence among partners.

As a key GBV implementing partner within the AoR, the Portrait Of Lake Child Initiative (PLCI) made meaningful contributions to the discussions, bringing in practical field experiences, community-level insights, and reinforcing its commitment to inclusive and survivor-centred programming.

A major highlight of the meeting was the joint review of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) across the three BAY states, alongside the agreement on clear and actionable priorities to improve coordination, accountability, and the overall impact of GBV interventions.

PLCI specifically led the SOP review process for Yobe State and played an active role in reviewing the three-year strategic documents, ensuring that local realities and community perspectives were adequately integrated into the planning process.

In addition, PLCI engaged in key interactive sessions, including team-building activities, further strengthening collaboration and partnership among GBV actors.

Earlier today Portrait Of Lake Child Initiative Supports Vulnerable Households from the Pompom Community.

Portrait of Lake Child Initiative (PLCI), in partnership with the North East Development Commission (NEDC) and the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), successfully supported over 150 vulnerable households from Pompom Community in Gujba LGA with essential food items.
Due to security challenges in the community, beneficiaries were carefully screened and invited to a safe location, in Damaturu where the distribution was conducted in a transparent and organized manner.
This intervention reflects PLCI’s continued commitment to supporting vulnerable populations and strengthening community resilience across Northeast Nigeria.

PLCI Empowering the Vision of Amina

This International Women’s Day, the Portrait of Lake Child Initiative (PLCI) celebrates the power of investment in young women. When we "Give" tools and mentorship, our communities "Gain" leaders and storytellers.
Amina’s journey began with a passion for photography and a lack of resources. Through PLCI’s support providing essential cameras, a laptop for professional editing, and mentorship, Amina has transformed into a skilled documentarian.
Amina is no longer just a subject of a story; she is the one holding the lens, documenting resilience and healing in Northeast Nigeria.
Let’s continue to Give so that more young women like Amina can Gain their future.
